I quite like the look but maybe it's because the red dress and boots are so nice, it draws the eye away from any '80's plastic accessories!

“Im getting Etam vibes’ …😀Nails it!

I like the head to toe red and agree the hat is splendid. I bet whoever was sitting behind f her at the presentation wasn’t too thrilled by it though 😆

Eaumyword · 18/01/2025 14:55

I like that head to toe red on Max too, along with her exuberant smile and big hat!

This is a lovely photo of Sophie, released to mark her 60th. 60 is the new 50! Or the new 40??

I think it is! Really nice pictures.

Sophie looks great. As someone a few years younger I'm very glad 60 is the new 40/50. My Nana was a little old lady with grey hair in a bun at 60. My mum is 83 and really not old looking at all (apart from a few wrinkles and white hair) 😃

Sidebeforeself · 19/01/2025 10:59

I think Sophie is looking so happy and confident these days. She seems to have found her place in the RF and is taking interest in a wide range of important subjects.

Yes, absolutely. I think she's really developed her role in the last couple of years.

That recent picture of her putting her hand gently on Kates back at the remembrance event really got to me. I think I also remember seeing her comfort Bea and Eugenie when the Queen died and she spoke to the crowds from the car when D of E passed away. She doesn’t seem to have any problem with showing emotion.

deeahgwitch · 19/01/2025 13:38

I recall Sophie and Edward appearing welcoming to the Sussexs at a church service when they had become pariahs to some.
It was probably the last Royal public church service they attended but can't remember what it was. Definitely in London.
I thought both Sophie and Edward were kind.
It was a very difficult situation for all but Sophie and Edward handled it superbly.
Kudos to them.
Sophie has really come into her own.
She herself at one time had become a bit of a black sheep in the family - wasn't there some newspaper "sting" or something?

eggandonion · 19/01/2025 13:45

I'd like to have a nose around Sophies house, it's massive. I'm sure it's tasteful.
I think they deserved the Edinburgh title, but I can't get used to Edward being Duke of Edinburgh. (I can't get used to me being called Granny either!)

Agree. It’s easier to get used to Sophie as Duchess of Edinburgh as obviously the late Queen didn’t use that title, so it’s not like getting used to someone new having it

I think there was a programme on Ch 5 last night about their house. It may be available on catch up.

Fantastic pic of Sophie in the black jumper and white skirt.
Here’s another one released to mark her birthday.

She does suit cream. That's a lovely coat. I'd sit in chocolate and spill tea straight down it - always impressed by a spotless cream colour wearer!

Isn't Sophie now the longest serving female of the "immediate family" / senior royals? She and Edward have had their 25th anniversary, iirc. KC & QC were married in 2005, so coming up for 20 years. Perhaps she's taking on a bit of a matriarchal role? It's nice to see.

Edited to say: I agree she looks fabulous in the new photos!

Choux · 19/01/2025 23:31

Surely that's Anne not Sophie? Anne was born a princess and is the King's sister rather than a married in.

But Sophie will be working longer than Anne (probably) and now Harry and Meghan have gone she and Ed are needed as support for the Wales' until George grows up.

Mention for Princess Alexandra...and the Duchess of Gloucester. I wonder if they still follow the rules on who curtsey to whom.

As I understand it, the only people you curtsey to are the King and Queen. No-one else. There is an order of precedence, which is about who goes/arrives/leaves first in formal situations.

eggandonion · 20/01/2025 17:15

I read that Sophie was happy to be Duchess of Edinburgh as she no longer had to curtsey to the Duchess of Sussex... should they ever cross paths I suppose.

eggandonion · 20/01/2025 17:17

Melanie's hat is very straight, and Barron is very tall. Their outfits match. And Mrs Vance has a lovely coat.
That's all I have to say about that.

She would never have to curtsey to her! I think some people are mischief making!

Sounds like nonsense to me as I highly doubt Sophie would ever be so indiscreet!
