I couldn't see a new thread so I'm starting one!

SOTD today was 4160Ts Dancing with Strangers. A beautiful violet, musk, vanilla powdered thing that lasts and lasts, and just smells happy! It reminds me of my wonderful great grandmother, who always, always, always smelled amazing and whom I miss terribly.

IDontHateRainbows · 28/01/2025 08:10

Matiere Premiere Parisian Musc today. I like this house but don't love it, yet. The scents are long lasting at least and you can buy a decent discovery kit and then 6ml larger samples - I like it when they do that and don't expect people to blind buy a massive £200 bottle.

IDontHateRainbows · 28/01/2025 09:03

Sprayed some d s & durga debaser over the parisian musc and it's combined beautifully. Sharp green fig with a sweet and creamy undercurrent.

paristotokyo · 28/01/2025 10:39

Sotd killian love don't be shy today, like this a lot

Deathraystare · 28/01/2025 14:12

Wearing Debaser today by D.S. & Durga. At last I got the name right!!!

·There is fig in there. I like it!

@@IDontHateRainbows Oh! Snap with the debaser!!!!

CorneliaStreet · 28/01/2025 17:29

Trying Miller Harris Rose en Noir for the first time tonight. Liking this one, it’s spicy and powdery (and rosy, obviously). Strong too.

IDontHateRainbows · 28/01/2025 19:13

Jpg Divine this evening...I like it more than I thought I would. It's a powdery tuberose-y scent, although not sure if it's actually tuberose. It's quite 'yummy' so something gourmand in there too.

TheLongRider · 28/01/2025 19:36

Synthetic Nature, I love the opening green stem and cut grass opening but then it drifts into strong florals and I go off it. I'd live something that stayed bright and green all the way through.

hairalert · 28/01/2025 21:00

Ooh I've ordered some samples based on this thread!

Ooh I've ordered some samples based on this thread!

Which ones?

IDontHateRainbows · 28/01/2025 21:09

Continuing with the matiere premiere samples - I have my first scrubber - french flower which is supposedly tuberose but its very screechy and headache inducing to my nose - smells very fizzy and synthetic like opening a 50p bottle of cheap pop from the corner shop. This one really lets the brand down in my eyes (nose?) but we are all different and I bet somewhere, someone else loves it.

On the other hand is crystal saffron, lovely saffron note to start but gives way to a synthetic ambroxan finish. I do quite like it - I don't know why.

All in all I'm finding this a strange brand - the scents are unashamedly synthetic smelling despite using raw ingredients (Aurelin the perfumer grows his own roses). But it seems to combine with some unnatural elements to create these fizzy, chemically effects. Even Vanillla Powder which I love, smells like cookies baking rather than fresh vanilla in a field.

Faves so far - Santal Austral, Parisian Musc and Vanilla Powder

didn't get on with the orange neroli, french flower, radical rose or falcon leather.
I advise anyone interested in MP to definitely get the sampler first!

IDontHateRainbows · 29/01/2025 10:12

Matiere Premiere Bois D'Ebene today which is one of their better ones, woody and slightly spicy.

These are really strong perfumes so probably not great for the office.

Not a house I'm in love with but at 11 samples for £45 good value for a discovery kit and you get a £10 discount on subsequent purchases too.

paristotokyo · 29/01/2025 11:19

Le labo another 13 today. Couldn't decide between this or the thé noir 29 but I just find another 13 so addictive, keep smelling my wrists. It does lean a little masculine maybe but it's a very versatile fragrance.

I have heard it's a bit like commodity milk?

Magpiecomplex · 29/01/2025 12:23

4160T's Fifth Sense today. Nice zingy citrus, reminds me of the opening of Penhaligons Luna but without the dry down.

Millymollymine · 29/01/2025 13:37

@Magpiecomplex I have been tempted now to buy a sample set from 4160t - i’m thinking the bestseller one are there any you would really recommend?

@IDontHateRainbows where did you get your MP sample set from was it Harvey Nics?

my SOTD is Kilian you don’t need a prince to be a princess…. The longevity I find really disappointing it’s gone after a couple of hours. I love the scent its creamy, sweet, lemon with a bit of marshmallow. But just too subtle and gone too quick for me to want to buy a full bottle.

Magpiecomplex · 29/01/2025 13:42

@Millymollymine depends what sort of thing you like. I started with the bestsellers set and only really loved one or two of them. They do a self selected set too, so you can read the descriptions and order the ones you think you'll like.

paristotokyo · 29/01/2025 13:57

@IDontHateRainbows I haven't tried commodity milk but it's something I think I will like! Looking at the notes it seems CM has some sweetness which another 13 doesn't have at all so they differ in that regard. But both have musky amber notes so perhaps this is the similarity? Do you have CM?

AprilLady · 29/01/2025 14:46

Le Labo Another 13 is, sadly, another one of the ISO E Super heavy fragrances that don’t work at all for me - it’s one for those who get on well with Escentric Molecules, JHAG not a perfume etc.

SOTD for me is Sisley Soir de Lune. A pretty and traditional rose chypre, that lasts and develops like a classic perfume. I’m sure some would call it “old lady” but I thoroughly enjoy wearing it.

Lurkingshark · 29/01/2025 17:43

@CorneliaStreet big fan of rose en noir here. I got it in TK Maxx. I think I might like @AprilLady s Sisley rose as well. I’m finding the traditional rose ones quite refreshing.

Lurkingshark · 29/01/2025 17:49

Ooh SOTD is also another 13. It’s my favourite of the iso ones ( I didn’t realise it was at first) and shared with DH.

I have CM bold whilst I like it it unfortunately gives me a headache which from reviews is quite common. So bad I had to let it go...

IDontHateRainbows · 29/01/2025 20:07

Tonight I'm on byredo bal d'afrique which I've finally 'got' as found it too citrussy before but loving it Tonight.
Any byredo fans the sets of 3 x 12ml are going cheap after Xmas, got 2 from pharmacy2u for £60 each reduced from £117. Hoping to sell 4 on ebay to make thd money back and 2 for me. Will keep bal d'afrique and mo ghost.

I got the MP sample set directly from MP , with postage from France included it was apx £47 and they added in an extra sample.
They are selling them in HN and I think possibly selfridges too.

Magpiecomplex · 30/01/2025 07:10

After being reminded of Luna yesterday, that's what I'm wearing today! Bright and zingy, and it lasts, unlike most things with citrus.
