I couldn't see a new thread so I'm starting one!

Actually @Magpiecomplex the Metaphysic is growing on me! It’s developed over a couple of hours (the rock rose resin?) and is now reminding me of Clinique Beyond Rose.

Iandhd23 · 01/01/2025 20:13

SOTD is Orchidee Vanille by Van Cleef and Arpels. I definitely don’t love it as much as when I first sampled it! It’s okay, but it’s very much a skin scent and for the first hour the smell is very reminiscent of cocoa butter, so I don’t think it’s worth the price.

Glad it's doing something for you. If you decide you really like it, let me know and I can try sending you the rest of my sample.

Today’s SOTD is Trussardi Donna. When DH first noticed it (I had been wearing it for a while by then) he proclaimed “Oh wow! You smell amazing! Just like marmalade!” Obviously he was on the receiving end of a withering look, so tried to rescue himself by saying, “Sexy marmalade!!!” So now this fragrance is known as “Sexy Marmalade”. (Nannas everywhere are spitting their toast out in horror at the thought of this ever being a thing….)

IDontHateRainbows · 02/01/2025 08:14

Sotd is mojave ghost absolu. Still like it but my nose is a bit blocked so I'm struggling to smell much.

Lurkingshark · 02/01/2025 11:47

Sexy marmalade sounds…. Sticky. SOTD is sandalwood temple by sana jardin. Slightly sweet, floraly but needs to be reapplied now.

Fraaances · 02/01/2025 12:06

@lurking - definitely not sticky… and aside from rich citrus notes (Amalfi Lemon, Yuzu) it’s balanced and given body with orange blossom, jasmine, lotus, vanilla, patchouli, cedar & sandalwood. I don’t get marmalade - more like cocktails in a black dress on a hot evening on a balcony overlooking a marina in the Mediterranean.

I’m surprised you need to reapply Sandalwood Temple so soon. It lasts all day on me (can even smell it in the morning after a shower!). I really want to buy a bigger bottle of this (10ml) as it’s my favourite nighttime scent.

happytobemrsg · 02/01/2025 12:41

SOTD is Jo Malone Velvet Rose & Oud. It’s a lovely fresh sunny day & this is perfect. It’s a sweet, jammy rose, great projection & longevity.

Cantonet · 02/01/2025 12:42

I've finished off the last of my Jo Malone Nutmeg & Ginger, worn Pure distance White & Clinique Wrappings over the holidays. White & Wrappings are both great Christmas Perfumes as the former is smooth warmth & the latter coniferous scented clear mountain air.

Lurkingshark · 02/01/2025 13:13

@happytobemrsg I may have a blocked nose… Will consult others.

sexy marmalade scent sounds lovely and holiday-dreamy

Millymollymine · 02/01/2025 13:41

@Fraaances your description is making me want to blind buy it…. Despite me absolutely not needing any more perfume…. But the fact a quick google has shown it is on offer for £22.30 is making it hard for me to step away from the order button……..!!!

Fraaances · 02/01/2025 14:08

It’s delicious… I recommend it. The sillage is fantastic for me.

IDontHateRainbows · 02/01/2025 14:17

This afternoon I'm on Billy Eilish number 1. For a celeb scent it's really nice. Warm vanilla reminiscent of kayali 28. And best of all it's inexpensive!

Iandhd23 · 02/01/2025 20:35

SOTD is Gritti’s Duchessa. It’s definitely my favourite cherry fragrance so far - it’s quite a ‘dark’ cherry if that makes sense. The price of a full bottle just makes me so sad and I kind of regret buying a decant purely for this reason..

Magpiecomplex · 02/01/2025 21:14

@Iandhd23 that sounds right up my street, so I went looking. See what you mean about the price!

SabrinaPrune · 03/01/2025 09:19

4160s A Little Less Conversation. Not my kind of thing. Vanilla/ aldehyde opening giving way to musk, woods not really coming through (yet). Label says 60s/70s but it is giving me 90s vibe (Gucci Rush?)

@Magpiecomplex I’m up for a swap at the end of the month…

IDontHateRainbows · 03/01/2025 10:13

BDK velvet tonka today. Really suits a cold winter's day, it's a comforting almond marzipan scent. Glad I bought the set now. Would recommend it to anyone interetsed in BDK (comes with creme de cuir and tuberose imperiale)

IDontHateRainbows · 03/01/2025 10:15

Has anyone tried commodity milk bold? I got it in an advent calendar and it's languishing in a drawer waiting to either be listed on ebay or opened.

Magpiecomplex · 03/01/2025 10:24

4160Ts A Little Less Conversation for me too today. Woods coming through straight away for me! I quite like this one at the moment but it is smelling quite synthetic so don't know how it'll dry down.

Deathraystare · 03/01/2025 10:32

Left perfume at home so splashed on some eau de cologne Bien Etre - which has a rosy almost Turkish Delight scent to it. Normally use it in Summer but needs must!

Sounds lovely

Fraaances · 03/01/2025 12:37

@Deathraystare I was talking to DD1 about Bien Etre yesterday! We bought several bottles of it at Super Marché Carrefours in 2010. They were giant, splash bottles of cologne and came in several scents. My DDs chose rose and lavender and I chose the Mandarine and almond ones. We wished we’d been able to bring more home. There was also a delicious edt in a spray that I think they change up each season that we all associate with Provence. It was utterly sublime.

happytobemrsg · 03/01/2025 12:49

SOTD is Penhaligon’s Babylon. I think this is my favourite winter scent.

There will be no new perfumes or samples for me in January so I won’t bore you all with a rotation of the same old perfumes.

MiaN · 03/01/2025 13:28

ah come and post anyway. I won't be buying for few months but I still like to read and post, even if I repeat a lot.

Athalia for me today.

Babylon is lovely.
BDK Velvet Tonka is very marzipan/almond type, my husband loves it on me and he loves marzipan. I prefer Leather Vanille myself but I will happily use up the few samples I have - after all, I do want to smell good for him too.
