SOTD today Angels share - I feel like I only have a couple of wintery weeks left to wear it as I really strongly associate it with Christmas/indulging/cozy family times ect so making the most of it now

I am loving my 12 days of Christmas scent calendar from SpaceNK - and am very excited that I got a Harvey Nicholas one from ebay at it’s original price which is on its way so I’ll be on a perfume trying frenzy over the next few weeks - does anyone know if any stores did a fragrance calendar targeted at men with all masculine scents as my other half now has said he would like one next year but after googling it looks like the calendars are all targeted at women?

roycroppersshopper · 29/12/2024 07:55

@fivebyfivebuffy @fraaances Thank you so much for the advice. I shall take that on board and do some more reading, and look at Fragrantica. Then I might order some swanky samples!

I want longevity, I had always assumed that the more expensive a perfume is, the better the longevity. Is this not correct?

MiaN · 29/12/2024 09:21

Harvey NIcks is not targeted to either gender, it's very mixed gender I in my view. I shared it with my son and my husband. Enjoy your goodies.

My sense of smell is definitely impacted by the flu I am trying to deal with, so no point of trying anything new or adventurous. I am searing Givenchy L'Interdit Intense, and even that smells different then I know it to smell

Trip to stores is also good way to try few, and if you have some nearby visit often - it can save you the need to order too many sample/sample set.

It's not correct with many Byredo scents. Worst longevity to price ratio I've seen mojave ghost I am looking at you!

Not always

The other thing is you stop smelling it on you after a while because your nose is used to the scent being there? So with Covid as well it's worth asking someone after a while if they can smell it on you
Or you can go a bit scent blind and end up overspraying

What’s longevity like with the Ånd fragrances? I had never heard of them before I discovered this thread and now I feel like I have just fallen down a rabbit hole of intrigue…

Fraaances · 29/12/2024 10:51

Agree that money does not buy longevity @roycroppersshopper…. neither can you guess just by reading about the notes or choosing an EDP over an EDT. I do know that for me, applying fragrance over a very thin smear of Vaseline has made an enormous difference to longevity no matter which one I’m wearing. (Mostly freshies due to the environment and my line of work, so every little bit helps.)

I never apply much perfume because I'm hyposmic generally and don't want to risk suffocating people, but I find the Ã…nd ones last quite well. Not as much as either Shalimar or my various Penhaligons ones (Luna, Halfeti, The Dandy) but they're not bad.

IDontHateRainbows · 29/12/2024 11:14

SOTD is Velvet Tonka. Enjoying the BDK set. I think the 10ml will be enough - it's a very rich gourmand and I reckon come the latter part of winter I'll be ready for fresher more floral scents. This will get me through January for sure

roycroppersshopper · 29/12/2024 11:17

@Fraaances wow how did you discover that? I might try that.

@fivebyfivebuffy I think I might have gone scent blind with LVEB, I can't really smell it on me anymore. My boyfriend says he can though.

I placed an order for samples of:

Ex Nihilo Fleur Narcotique Extrait
Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb
Tom Ford Café Rose
Kilian Good Girl Gone Bad

Not sure why I ordered the Ex Nihilo as I wouldn't normally spend £230 on perfume! I bet it is the one I like the best and end up buying it!

Once I've tried these I will take a look at
Dior New Look and Mint Joking Aside.

Exciting!

potplantsinparadise · 29/12/2024 12:32

@Fraaances Änd are pretty good re longevity, especially the gourmand and woody scents. The sample pack is v good value for money.

TooMuchDontCare · 29/12/2024 12:44

Today I'm wearing Le Labo Another 13 & adore it

MiaN · 29/12/2024 13:56

Fleur Narcótique is very pretty

Longevity depends on type of notes too genetically citruses last much less then oud perfumes. The use of syntetics/molecule type of ingredients can alter that somewhat but they can be irritating to some noses. Its not only the concentration that matters.

paristotokyo · 29/12/2024 15:19

Delina exclusif for me today. I really like this. 2024 was the year I discovered I actually like rose scents (still despise white florals though). But this is lychee forwards on me which I enjoy. I tested replicas under the lemon tree on my trip to the shops earlier and I loved it a lot on the test strip but will need to try on skin next time. Unsure whether it will fall into the air freshner/toilet cleaner category that I'd want to avoid. Thinking ahead to next year when we will be moving to a very hot and humid country as I realised most of my collection are cold weather scents.

CorneliaStreet · 29/12/2024 16:04

Trying a sample of Myrica Muse by Miller Harris. Notes of rose, rum and strawberry, so a sweet, fruity rose scent. Liking it so far.

Prettydisgustingactually · 29/12/2024 17:22

Millymollymine · 29/12/2024 06:55

@Prettydisgustingactually I buy samples from decant sites like small aromas or fragrancesamplesuk - they are normally £3-£5 per ml

@Millymollymine
Thank you x

That sounds lovely!!

SOTD was Penhaligon’s Babylon. I love the vanilla dry down. Put it on at 10am & can still smell it on my skin 11 hours later

Lurkingshark · 29/12/2024 19:51

Sotd. Dear Polly I like it but my nose does not get tea! It made 3 in our house sneeze for the first hour though which may be problematic!

potplantsinparadise · 29/12/2024 20:15

'Celestial Patchouli' by Sana Jardin. Did not expect to like. Absolutely love. Wondering about getting a 10ml to make this one of my spring scents - nice and earthy and spicy, but not gourmand.

fivebyfivebuffy · 29/12/2024 21:23

Commodity gold expressive
Not sure on this

@roycroppersshopper I can’t claim credit for the Vaseline trick. It’s an oldie but goodie trick that has been used to extend the wear of fragrance for many years. I read it in a magazine and it seems to work.

IDontHateRainbows · 29/12/2024 23:06

Sot evening is laura mercier ambre vanille. Not sure about the tangerine top note buy the dry down is lovely

LightandBreezy · 30/12/2024 00:09

I went back to an oldie today, Portrait of a Lady / Frederic Malle - my first day 'out' after the festivities and frankly I was feeling fragile at the thought of leaving the house 😬😅so although I don't really love this scent anymore it gave a sense of security and being done/ ready and I was super grateful for that!

Fraaances · 30/12/2024 02:00

It’s so, so, hot and humid here. I just watered the plants and described it as stepping into Satan’s armpit. I am wearing a combo of Guerlain AA Herba Fresca and 4711 Remix Cologne Edition 2018 (sharp Citrus, very Yuzu forward - over Vaseline of course.) DD2 said I smelled like a mojito. I’m good with that. Off to work and will see how people respond to me smelling like I’ve been hitting the cocktails.
