Today's scent of the day is Tom Ford soleil neige just a,mini I picked up from vinted but I actually really like it such a,subtle scent for Tom Ford and naturally a unisex one but so far im liking it will see how it fairs throughout the day

Fraaances · 27/12/2024 11:04

Hi @Lurkingshark!!! Today I blind-bought DedCool’s Red Dakota. It’s remarkably similar to Rhubarbe Ecarlate by Hermes, but with staying power and some very gentle bass notes on the back beat. It’s clean, sharp, tangy, citrus and berry (hence the rhubarb analogy) and it stays!!! I think it is something I can wear to work and feel clean and delicious despite the heat and not offend anyone.

IDontHateRainbows · 27/12/2024 12:54

Berber Blonde from Sana Jardin - I like this one. Was wondering if I'd find anything I liked from this brand. It's floral, probably quite good for spring.

paristotokyo · 27/12/2024 13:40

Veronique Gabai noire de mai today. I like this a lot. Elegant soft rose with woody amber notes.

IDontHateRainbows · 27/12/2024 14:20

Turmeric latte today it's definitely growing on me. The first time I sprayed it all I could smell was acrid smoke, now I am having a different reaction it's spicy and much nicer.
Anyone else find they can have a different reaction to a scent after a few tries, like your nose adapt to it or something?
Still don't think I'd buy it although they do the little solid balm sticks for not much , apx £9 , whi ch.if I was passing lush and saw, would consider

happytobemrsg · 27/12/2024 17:25

SOTD is Jo Malone Velvet Rose & Oud from their intense range (a Christmas present from DH). I bought this before I found this thread so I chose it just based on smelling it on a tester strip. I’m so very glad I did! It’s gorgeous. I get lots of rose, not much Oud. It’s sweet & floral. For Jo Malone, it’s got great silage & projection. I can see me wearing this is spring/summer. Given that I’ve previously liked Peony & Suede Blush & I’ve heard they can be layered, I’m very tempted to buy that too. Pleasantly surprised with this one.

IDontHateRainbows · 27/12/2024 18:55

Evening out. Scent is bdk creme de cuir. Good longevity, can still smell it 3 hours after spritzing.

happytobemrsg · 27/12/2024 20:59

@IDontHateRainbows I’ve heard good things from BDK in this thread

mdinbc · 27/12/2024 22:06

MiaN, hope you are feeling better! At least you still have your sense of humour. I don't know if you have Johnson's baby wash in the UK, but they have a eucalyptus one that you can add to the bath.

I'm still happy with D&G Devotion for my winter fragrance.

happytobemrsg · 28/12/2024 10:47

Hope you’re feeling better @MiaN!

Today I’m wearing Sana Jardin Tiger by her Side with a little spritz of Jo Malone Wood Sage & Sea Salt. I wanted to wear TBHS while I’m still in a cinnamon mood & I’ve never layered before so I thought why not! I think it’s really lovely. The WS&SS has toned it down a little. From what I read, WS&SS is really easy to layer.

happytobemrsg · 28/12/2024 10:54

On another note, DH seems to have commandeered my bottle of Penhaligon’s Halfeti! It does smell lovely on him so I don’t mind too much as I still get to smell it throughout the day

paristotokyo · 28/12/2024 13:17

Escentric molecules 01 today. I've opened a new bottle and it smells totally different to my previous one? Weird.. unless the old had matured or it's because I've been unwell lately.

IDontHateRainbows · 28/12/2024 13:22

Has anyone tried BDK tuberose imperial? I got it in my bdk set not sure whether to keep it or sell I as it was the other 2 i really wanted. I like memo marfa which I think is tuberose. Anyone tried both?

IDontHateRainbows · 28/12/2024 15:04

Creme de Cuir again today, it's the surprise hit of the season. Like it as much if not more than velvet tonka.

paristotokyo · 28/12/2024 17:43

Halfeti this evening. Really want to try Babylon next I'm at their shop as it sounds right up my street. EM01 faded so quick, which is really unusual as it usually lasts all day on me and I could also barely smell it.

I’m also wearing Halfeti this evening & planning on wearing Babylon tomorrow! I love both!

Ånd Beån today, courtesy of my in laws. Thanks to you lot I've just ordered the Sana Jardin discovery set! And some BDK samples.

fivebyfivebuffy · 28/12/2024 22:37

Clean reserve skin again today

I've been reading through this thread, it's fascinating, but could almost be written in Greek, for the amount I understand!

I wondered if anyone could give me some advice? I've only worn about 10 or so different fragrances in my life, from university to now, age 51.

They are (some sound SO old fashioned now!)

Calvin Klein - Eternity
Calvin Klein - Escape
Givenchy - Ysatis
Clinique - Aromatics Elixir
Clinique - Happy
Elizabeth Arden - Fifth Avenue
Chanel - Coco
Chanel - Chance
Dior - J'adore
Lancome - La Vie Est Belle (I've been wearing this non stop for the last 5 years)

So, I guess I like quite strong smells? I bought a Saltworks sample set which had quite a bit of oud in it, I didn't like most of them. Also, the longevity was pants.

I think I like floral scents for the most part. I also bought samples of Penhalligons Luna and Highgrove, which I liked, but again I thought the longevity was poor. I used to have an exceptionally keen sense of smell, tis, since having COVID 4 times it seems to have been decimated. So maybe the longevity is better than I'm aware?

Any thoughts as to what I might like to sample? I looked up the notes of La Vie Est Belle (I don't like the new intense one BTW) and have tried to match it. I looked at fragrance samples uk website and came up with a list but there is so many to choose from! I wondered about:

Kilian - Good Girl Gone Bad
Kilian - Love Don't Be Shy
Kilian - Forbidden Games
MINT - Joking Aside
Arquiste - Fleur de Louis
Arquiste - L'or de Louis
Brocade - Fortune

Any thoughts? Any pointers would be great!

Oh and one blast from the past that I loved on others but never bought, was Rive Gauche.

Fraaances · 28/12/2024 23:38

You obviously like the white florals and a bit of powder and a bit of fruit. How about Chanel Chance? It’s a bit fresher, so might lean a bit more citrussy. Chanel and Dior would be really good houses to surf as would Guerlain for easily accessible fragrances that suit that profile. Then if you wanted something a bit more niche, I would look on Fragrantica and compare the fragrances you know you love with others listed in the “People who wear this also love these:” list or “Most similar to” lists.

fivebyfivebuffy · 29/12/2024 00:11

From your list I would scrap love don't be shy and definitely try good girl gone bad

This is purely based on I don't like floral scents or many of your faves - and I really like love don't be shy! It's much more sweet gourmand to me
I disliked good girl gone bad as too floral Grin so you would probably enjoy it

After a bit you start realising what you like
If I see something described as "tooth aching sweet", vanilla heavy, marshmallow, cotton candy notes or "smells like soap/clean" then I know it will likely be for me

Sorry to sound dim, but I’ve seen a lot mentioned about samples and buying them but aren’t samples free? How do I get samples of the fragrances I want to try please?

MiaN · 29/12/2024 05:23

You can get few samples with putchase usually, but you have to ask and depends on availability. Some companies sell sample sets with part or full cost going against purchase. If you just walk in store looking for samples without buying anything and without being regular client you have less chance of getting any.

You can't get samples from fragantica, you can read reviews and find similar perfumes there.

hughiedoesntfight · 29/12/2024 05:29

Morning all. I haven’t been well so not wearing perfume up until yesterday. I tried H1 heart from eternal journey yesterday and really liked it. The woody dry down with a hint of vanilla and touch of sweetness is lovely. It’s gone on my list of perfumes I am not desperate for but I like. It’s my ‘what I would buy if I won the lottery didn’t have to worry about money’ list.

and I can still smell it on my jumper this morning. Lasted about 7 hours on skin.

@Prettydisgustingactually thers lots of way to get samples. You can often get free samples. Especially if buying an item. Most companies give samples when you are purchasing from them. A few designer brands will post them for free if you sign up. You can also get discovery sets from a lot of brands. Or you can buy decants, when you can’t get a free sample OR a discovery set wouldn’t suit. Where people who own a lot of perfume will decant a small amount out for you into a spray bottle and you can purchase that.

Millymollymine · 29/12/2024 06:55

@Prettydisgustingactually I buy samples from decant sites like small aromas or fragrancesamplesuk - they are normally £3-£5 per ml
