Wearing Byredo Mumbai Noise for the first time today. After seeing it was in one of the Harrods AC drawers I nabbed one on Vinted. I think I might like it more than Mojave Ghost although I've not fully tested the full size MG absolu which is sat under the xmas tree currently.

We have similar tastes! I was going to get the full size absolu for Xmas, I actually did buy it but sending it back as I still can't get my head round spending that much on one bottle.

IDontHateRainbows · 21/12/2024 14:03

SOTD, or should I say SOT hour as that's probably how long it will last, mojave ghost original. Using up the sample from the space nk fragrance calendar which I decanted into a spray bottle as I don't like dab ons. Loccitane do really good little 5ml spray bottles for £4 although the funnels provided are a bit too small.

OvaHere · 21/12/2024 14:27

@IDontHateRainbows I have a tiny sample of original MG I was given in Harvey Nicks after buying something else. Immediately loved it but you're right about it not lasting which is why I bought the absolu rather than the original. I am slightly worried I won't like it as much but equally I don't want a full size of a scent that barely seems to last an hour.

Can you get a sample to try before you open the big bottle? Scented samples sell it and next day delivery too.

I liked it but not enough to justify a full bottle. It's much sweeeter/ fruitier and whilst it does share something with the original I think it's a bit misleading to call it mojave ghost as it's not exactly the same scent.

IDontHateRainbows · 21/12/2024 14:43

I've decided I'm only buying another byredo if I can get the scent discovery kit deal, otherwise it's out of my price range. I have plenty of samples for now but will possibly get another scent discovery kit for my birthday in Feb. I sold most of them last time but I think next time I would work through the samples properly.

Only the velvet tonka. The rest is a bit of a gamble but anything I hate I can probably shift on ebay

Looking forward to hearing what you think of the other two!

I had a sniff on Monday whilst shopping and I did like it. I thought it was close enough but I know what you mean. My friend who has both swears there's no difference though. I will use it I think as I only have a couple of large perfumes to go at. Most of my 'collection' is samples.

happytobemrsg · 21/12/2024 15:37

Lurkingshark · 21/12/2024 14:00

SOTD is a random perfume oil one I got on holiday. The rose and nutmeg is warming and reminds me of warm places. Not a big top note hit which is good for me.

@happytobemrsg I really like Sandalwood temple. I’m not a big vanilla forward person but I loved it, a bit of green in there if I can remember? I was very tempted with the discount on the recent sample but I will go smell it one time in liberty.

It’s really nice but I’m a bit sad that it’s fading now so if I go for it I’ll have to top it up

No perfume for me over the past few days - have succumbed to the lurgy that's going around, so have been in bed trying to get better before the Christmas getaway next week. Will definitely bring Ginger Biscuit and Amber Maquis - my 5 year old keeps commenting how much she like this one, so I think this one might definitely be a RP, though the only place that sells it seems to be Liberty, where it's now sold out ...Guess I can stock on on the small sizes on ebay etc

happytobemrsg · 21/12/2024 16:09

Really wish I had been able to give Ginger Biscuit a go as it seems really popular. Thinking I might have missed the boat as it might have been nicer before Christmas. Happy to hear otherwise!!

2nd SOTD is Halfeti as Sandalwood Temple completely faded on me. I’m wrapping Christmas presents, it’s raining outside & my room is covered in fairy lights. Halfeti is perfect 😍 I’m going to see if DH will give it a go. His current fragrance is Jo Malone Bergamot & Oud (he only has one at a time) & I think this would be lovely on him. Happy to share if it means I have the excuse to buy more!

IDontHateRainbows · 21/12/2024 16:22

SOT evening (after the mojave ghost predictably ghosted on me after about an hour) is l'atelier tobacco veloute. This was in the liberty scent kit I think. It reminds me of kayali pistachio gelato a little, not sure if it is supposed to have pistachio notes. It's definitely not smokey to me as I was expecting. There is a depth to it but it's more a powdery depth than a smokey sensation. Was expecting something very smokey from the name and the description on the box but i'm not finding it a smokey one to my nose.

IDontHateRainbows · 21/12/2024 16:24

So is anyone getting new perfume for christmas day? I think a few people have mentioned presents pending.
I have my BDK minis set plus I also got a couple of the vanillas from Zara including the new one that is supposed to be like vanilla poweder - they are so cheap, just hope they are decent quality at that price.

And after that I really need to go on a perfume buying ban for a while!

potplantsinparadise · 21/12/2024 16:43

@happytobemrsg Like others, it's a combination of how I feel x how I want to feel x what I'll be doing that day/night x seasons/weather. That's also (kinda) how I think about gaps in my collection. Right now I'm good for fancy going out/cosy staying in winter scents - lots of heavy incense, woods, amber, some fruit & spice & ginger. My summer / hot weather collection is also solid - citrus, greens, some salty aquatics, some rhubarb things, things you can spritz. What's 'missing' is something for when I want to feel smart, put-together, and confident at work; and a more casual but not too cosy everyday scent - so, I'm exploring various sandalwood, cedar and skin-scent stuff. (This is all my own justification for buying more perfume, of course).

Amber Maqius was in one of the liberty scent kits as a 10ml so you should definitely be able to find it on Ebay

paristotokyo · 21/12/2024 17:49

Also been hit with the lurgy so currently feeling sorry for myself and not in the mood for fragrance. However did use the ambre vanille body/bath oil last night after my shower and it is loooooovely. Skin feels really soft and the scent lasted ages. Going on my bday wish list :)

happytobemrsg · 21/12/2024 18:16

@potplantsinparadise I’m sorted for cold weather - I seem to have a very clear profile that I like: warm spice, vanilla, Oud, rose & enough to use when I’m out or at home. As the weather gets warmer I need to figure out what notes I like as I don’t have any I love for spring & summer. I expect rose & vanilla will stick around. It’ll be fun figuring that out. Lots of discovery sets!

hughiedoesntfight · 21/12/2024 18:43

I have had 10 samples arrive today. 9 from Jovoy and one in my Sephora order. So currently upstairs logging them on my spread sheet and testing them on strips.

I have tried to concentrate on ones that are more spring, summer leaning. And they all seem good at this point. The stand out is H1 heart eternal journey.

@IDontHateRainbows i know dp got me valaya. And I am going shopping the week between Christmas and new year with my Dad. I have a few that I want to pick up in a larger size. But am waiting to see what offers come in Christmas Eve-new years.

A couple I am not desperate for but want for next autumn/winter like commodity milk+ and Jovoy remember me. I know after Christmas I will go off my heavier vanilla and cozy scents and start reaching for brighter and lighter scents. So will concentrate on getting those sort of scents that are on my list at a discounted price

IDontHateRainbows · 21/12/2024 19:11

Tobacco velour isn't pistachio, it's almond, so I was close. Beginning to think I've got a thing for almond as the velvet tonka has heavy almond notes. Definitely ticking the 'intense gourmand ' box for me right now.

Millymollymine · 21/12/2024 19:28

I’ve noticed a few lost cherry listings on vinted - 100ml for less than £100……. The +£300 price in the shops was putting me off buying it even though i love it - but these prices seem too good to be true - am wondering if they are fakes? Are perfume fakes a thing?

hughiedoesntfight · 21/12/2024 19:33

@IDontHateRainbows I have found almond very alluring at the moment too. And pistachio. But almond has come up in a few I have liked.

@Millymollymine fake perfumes are definitely a thing. There’s been a big thing on TikTok at the moment as TikTok shop was allowing people to sell and promote fakes. My advice would only be to go for it, if the seller has lots of positive feedback. I would be surprised if it was being sold at £100 if it was full, genuine and sealed.

AprilLady · 21/12/2024 19:51

@Millymollymine lots of perfume fakes about - you need to be very wary. If price looks too good to be true, it probably is. At the least, ask the seller for more information and pictures and check carefully against one you know is real.

CorneliaStreet · 22/12/2024 08:27

I like almond notes too.

I still have the almond sampler box from when Escentuals used to do their monthly mystery sample sets. I’ve used up a lot of them but it had:

Guerlain L’Homme Ideal
Prada Infusion d’Amande
House of Oud Almond Harmony
Ghost Orb of Night
YSL Cinema
Drop D’Issey
Aqua di Parma Mandoro Sicilia
Van Cleef & Arpels Bois D’Amande

I remember particularly liking the Aqua Di Parma.

IDontHateRainbows · 22/12/2024 09:57

Continuing with the nutty gourmand theme today it's Kayali Pistachio from the discovery sample kit. I had this scent in a 10ml around 1.5 years ago and was obsesssed with it. I still like it, particularly as I'm going through a heavy/sweet phase - have considered in the past getting another 10ml but to be honest I think I'm through my Kayali phase now - the vanilla 28 is the only one i'd rp as it layers up well with some of the more spicy/smokey scents I have. Burning cherry I also rate but with so many other brands to try and discover I probably wouldn't buy. The discovery kit is quite nice though and at 8 x 2ml for £17 from Sephora on BF quite good value.

Oft to pick up my BDK set which is my xmas present so no matter how much I'm tempted to have a cheeky pre-sniff, I mustn't!

Mackemlass79 · 22/12/2024 10:55

Well ive had my first fail and I'm unsure if it's a,fail or if it's just fact I ordered a small dupe from perfume parlour and not sure how close a match it is. Anyway my "fail" I feel is gris charnel I purchased this as a small 3ml oil from pp as heard so much about it on this thread and it really isn't for me at all. Has anyone else ordered a dupe of this?? Is it maybe just because it isn't the original or just possibly not a "me" scent. I know nobody can answer this but every other pp order i have had I've loved and I have found to be very close to the original so maybe this just isn't for me but at £4 I'm not complaining
