I couldn't see a new thread so I'm starting one!

I’m testing Kayali Burning Cherry this evening. It’s pleasant but I hoped it’d be a bit smoky because of the name and it isn’t. I’ve been wanting a full size of Cherry Punk by Room 1016 (I had an 8ml tester from Sniph) but I’m not sure how to buy that brand in the UK!

happytobemrsg · 20/12/2024 23:58

How does everyone decide what perfume they are going to wear that day?

For me it's mostly mood
It sounds silly but I can think "hmm what am I in the mood for?" and something will spring to mind like I want to smell clean or sweet or citrus

Seasons too, I have some scents I only wear in warmer weather

Then what I'm doing that day, so if I'm going to the dentist I wouldn't wear anything strong with huge projection

After all that if I still don't know I have a couple of perfumes I can use which I always go back to

If I am going to be close to people who have no choice but to sit near me - keep n it light and polite.
Else - how I feel? How do I want to feel? Is there fragrance to help me feel that way?
It's little like intention settings for the day!
I don't test new samples for full day until I tested on paper first and skin second but for short time as it can ruin my day if we don't match.

fivebyfivebuffy · 21/12/2024 01:54

I'm starting to crave some of my summer scents now already!
Beach walk doesn't feel right in this weather and imaginary authors falling into the sea is my after swim scent

OP posts:
MiaN · 21/12/2024 02:04

If I crave it I go for it. I don't crave winter scents in the summer as they don't feel the heat but I had summer scent day this week. Once Christmas is over I don't gravitate to gourmands. Honestly when I on the beach I don't need perfume that smells like beach, if I can swim in the sea I don't need scent that smells like salty skin. It's when I crave the beach or the sea swim and I can't that those scents do their magic for me.

fivebyfivebuffy · 21/12/2024 02:15

That makes perfect sense to me. I absolutely LOVE salt scents and crave them in summer

falling into the sea is such a strong association for outdoor swimming for me that I'm holding off - not brave enough to swim in the winter!

MiaN · 21/12/2024 02:32

I haven't in recent weeks but if I do I just go for it. Element of escape to a place. Spring time I love my salty skin perfumes.

MiaN · 21/12/2024 02:44

Most of the time the cravings and seasons are aligned. Like in the summer craving freshness in the winter warmth and comfort. But every so often they take me in different direction

I have scents that I wear certain times of year. But don’t always stick to that.

Usually, I think about what I have planned. Then go from there. I am having my nails done today so won’t go for something overpowering as I will be sat so close to someone. And it will depend on what sort of vibe I want. Angel dust is a big one for me at the moment. Because it has such a cozy feel. Which I craving at the moment.

But yesterday evening I went for rouge trafalgar. It’s usually a summery scent for me. But I was going out for dinner with the kids and just felt like I fancied that one.

MiaN · 21/12/2024 05:58

I was able to order sample set - I was able to order sample set form their website delivered to Ireland. Have you tried it? by memory it is very leather heavy, it is not at all what I was expecting or anything like Kayali burning Cherry/Tom Ford lost cherry etc.

It's a bit like deciding what to have for dinner! I just go with what appeals to me that day. Craving heavy vanilla ATM but that may change soon.

IDontHateRainbows · 21/12/2024 11:58

So after dilly dallying all December with what perfume to get for Xmas I've ordered the bdk 3 x 10 ml set, will post a link.
Turmeric latte is going back.
No more samples for a while now!

Mackemlass79 · 21/12/2024 12:01

Just a plain rose perfume for me today from a set MIL got me several yrs ago from fragonard when they were in nice. Lovely scent I like a good rose scent still haven't found perfect one yet but do really like paul Smith rose which is a cheapy one these days but i find it very wearable

AprilLady · 21/12/2024 12:39

SOTD PDM Meliora, to give me joy whilst doing the long list of chores I need to get through today.

QueefofSheena · 21/12/2024 13:19

SOTD is ADP Oud & Zagara. I really like, it’s quite fruity on me

OvaHere · 21/12/2024 13:35

Wearing Byredo Mumbai Noise for the first time today. After seeing it was in one of the Harrods AC drawers I nabbed one on Vinted. I think I might like it more than Mojave Ghost although I've not fully tested the full size MG absolu which is sat under the xmas tree currently.

happytobemrsg · 21/12/2024 13:37

Thanks everyone! It’s really interesting to see what drives your perfume choice. For me, it’s been about how do I want to feel that day - confident, cosy, uplifted. Although I haven’t liked any of the so called “uplifting” scents in my discovery sets. Maybe I’m not ready to be uplifted while it’s so cold & miserable out or does uplifting automatically mean citrus (which I don’t like)?

Returning to yesterday’s Sana Jardin Venus of Verbena, it really was rubbish on me. I didn’t love it & it faded so quickly (which I guess is a good thing considering I didn’t love it but I’ve got used to enjoying a sniff throughout the day).

SOTD is Sana Jardin Sandalwood Temple. This one is lovely & creamy. Not strong at all so I can see it working in an office setting or at an appointment. I’m getting quite a bit of vanilla. Will enjoy using the sample but not sure if I’d move up to 10ml (I really like this strategy now, thanks!).

I think I need to keep a spreadsheet or something of all of my thoughts.

happytobemrsg · 21/12/2024 13:38

Have you sampled these already?

happytobemrsg · 21/12/2024 13:47

Has anyone else tried Sandalwood Temple? Thoughts on it for warmer weather?

IDontHateRainbows · 21/12/2024 13:56

happytobemrsg · 21/12/2024 13:38

Only the velvet tonka. The rest is a bit of a gamble but anything I hate I can probably shift on ebay

I quite like it, I would wear it any time of year. I'm not absolutely in love with it but it's a safe bet, steady addition to my collection. Wouldn't buy full size. Lots of 5mls on ebay after it was in a liberty beauty drop

Lurkingshark · 21/12/2024 14:00

SOTD is a random perfume oil one I got on holiday. The rose and nutmeg is warming and reminds me of warm places. Not a big top note hit which is good for me.

@happytobemrsg I really like Sandalwood temple. I’m not a big vanilla forward person but I loved it, a bit of green in there if I can remember? I was very tempted with the discount on the recent sample but I will go smell it one time in liberty.
