Zara have new perfume out (well they do have few every week it seems! But this one Vanilla Immortal is suppose to be dupe of Vanilla Powder. They have also intense version of Vetiver Pamplemousse, I am seriously tempted with that as I LOVE the normal in the summer but the longevity is shocking. I may try to get to smell them in store soon

Oh no, more temptation! I am interested in vanilla powder but not at the price for the real thing!

happytobemrsg · 19/12/2024 15:02

What is Vanilla Powder like?

hughiedoesntfight · 19/12/2024 15:23

I am wfh today so tried more of my Kayali discovery set went with vanilla candy rock sugar. I liked it more than I thought it would. But wouldn’t buy it. Lasted quite long though. I was surprised. 6 hours and counting.

MiaN · 19/12/2024 15:37

According to parfumo there are 6671 out perfumes so far this year. Compared to only 4529 in 2004. It will be interesting to see how long will this last

SOTD is Sana Jardin Revolution de la Fleur from my discovery set. Lovely & sunny here today so wanted to go for something floral. It’s a beautiful perfume & a warm weather contender but I’m wondering if it’s unique enough for the price. Would love to hear thoughts of anyone else who has tried it.

It's my favourite SJ and I did buy a 50ml - but only with the Black Friday discount (30% off plus a free gift of 2 5mls I think). No regrets though, and am wearing it today! They have a couple of bundle offers running on their website at the mo.

It's interesting you think of it as a warm weather scent. For me, it's very much a winter one but I lean towards aquatic type perfumes for summer!

Edit - sorry, checked and it was two 5mls! 10mls would have been generous.

QueefofSheena · 19/12/2024 17:10

SOTD for the last couple of days has been Molecule 01 + patchouli. I have a small bottle on my desk and I’d forgotten to spritz anything else. I really like it, definitely a grower

It’s definitely growing on me as I wear it today. I don’t like fresh, green or citrus fragrances so struggle a bit picking fragrances in the summer (cold weather is all about warm spice). Love a sweet vanilla or rose in the warm weather. Is “aquatic” similar to what I’d call “fresh”? Sorry I’m quite new to this!

Short trip to the shops and sniff report

First 3 I only sniffed the bottles without spraying paper or skin

Wind Flowers Creed - I am yet to find Creed I like, it's just a no for me.

Xerjoff Starlight - so strong. It's not that I don't find it interesting, it's intense to my nose. It's very interesting fragrance house, they love complex and strong scents.

Mon Guerlain Intense - I like it, but may prefer the original

The next 3 I tested on paper tester

The new Rare Beauty Awake Confidence - very sweet and peachy, little bit younger scent then Find Comfort but I would wear it. I have it coming in the post. I would love to know what does it remind me of, it's not new scent I just can't think of what it reminds me of. It's happy scent

And the two Zara
Dark Romance - definitely not dupe of bianco late on initial spray, which I don't get on with so it's not a bad thing. I won't be buying it but it. The drydown moves little more similar but by no means dupe.

Immortal Vanilla - Initial sniff no likey. After about 30 minutes I got little bit of the coconut and thought hm... maybe. But then didn't like it again. I may test on skin but I don't know the original so I can't compare. I only remember getting more coconut out of it when I smelled it in store - from the bottle without spraying it.

The only one I tested on skin. The new Mojave Ghost It's fruiter, much stronger and sweeter but I definitely do not need both. I have at least 80ml in my 100ml bottle - won't be needing replacement in next few years but so happy I got to try it. I think I prefer the original as well. I will have to wash it off my skin as it's too strong for my exercise class in one hour.

That's my problem, I work near shopping district and I live near shopping center with Harvey Nics, Space Nk etc - I keep entertaining myself with sniffing trips to the shops. That's sniffing strategy 1st. try to smell it from the bottle sprayer. 2nd if interested then tester paper and 3rd if I like that then it gets to go on my skin.

this way I can take 2/3 testers with me and smell the drydown in few hours.

happytobemrsg · 19/12/2024 21:10

Thanks for your report @MiaN ! I get such great longevity from Zara perfumes so I’m always interested in those. Very jealous of how easy it is for you to go and sample all these lovely perfumes although I think it would be very bad for my bank balance!

IDontHateRainbows · 19/12/2024 21:19

I don't quite have @MiaN's problem with working near shopping district, but there are not one but 2 selfridges within half an hours travelling distance from my house, plus also a harvey nicks not too far away, although I much prefer Selfridges myself. Got totally overwhelmed yesterday in there so definitely need to be a bit more measured next time.

Evening scent is mumbai noise mixed with vanilla 28. back to loving the mumbai, and am glad it didn't sell after my noseblind period. The vanilla gives it a sweeter edge.

lovehatesummer · 19/12/2024 21:21

@happytobemrsg I'm definitely no perfume expert either!

Aquatic to me isn't as sharp as green or citrus, perhaps a more clean (but not laundry type fragrance).

Here's the Fragrantica definition https://www.fragrantica.com/groups/aromatic+aquatic.html

And this is my favourite aquatic at the moment (it's marketed as men's but I think it's quite unisex)

IDontHateRainbows · 19/12/2024 21:22

Samples I am waiting on - velvet tonka (5ml), turmeric latte (4ml) plus a mojave ghost dupe car air freshener - I thought why not get a scent for the car, it's a dupe but good reviews and not too expensive if I don't like it. Also got the 3ml dupe - decided not to get mojave ghost for xmas as it's just too expensive for something that fades so quickly. I did try the absolu but didn't quite love it as much as the original. And I'm so fickle, trying so many different things. that unless I get the grand discovery set it's a waste. And you can't with the absolu, I checked with Byredo. Only the EDPs which seems a bit mean!

happytobemrsg · 19/12/2024 22:05

Thank you for explaining @lovehatesummer ! I love Fragrantica but it’s such a rabbit hole! I lose hours 😂

@IDontHateRainbows last night in bed I could still smell Babylon on me & it was so lovely. I’m starting to understand why so many have a bedtime fragrance! Can I ask - what’s the difference between EDP & Absolute?

I'm no expert but I believe it means stronger/ more concentrated. Like EDP is stronger than EDT. Absolu is next one up. I don't know if there's an even stronger format. See Extrait mentioned.

Personally I'd rather just spray a bit more than pay extra for a stronger version. Especially some of the prices!

happytobemrsg · 19/12/2024 22:25

Ah that makes sense @IDontHateRainbows, thank you.

I found a 7.5ml bottle of Good Girl Carolina Herrera in a Fenwick beauty box I received last year. I never tried the perfume because I hated the bottle 😂 is it any good?

fivebyfivebuffy · 20/12/2024 00:12

Clean reserve skin
It's a my skin but better perfume and smells most like "me"
Usually wear it when I don't know what to wear! It's always appropriate too and never overpowering

Hugged (shh, MN will kill me!) a male colleague yesterday and was very confused why he smelled so familiar until I realised he was wearing baccarat Grin so I stole some of that (I only have the dupe and similar - AG cloud, Pacifica dream moon)

Got the busiest day of the year today at work today. So been up and caught up on emails. Oiled my hair. While I potter about I have put on Simon’s nest Season of the witch. It’s so uplifting and calming. It’s definitely becoming a favourite.

Not sure what I will put on for when I log on. See how I am feeling after my shower

IDontHateRainbows · 20/12/2024 08:49

Mojave ghost today, but it's so fleeting on me, barely worth putting on. Then i put some mg abolu on but it's not the same as the original. A bit too sweet and bubble-gummy.
Going off the Mojave Ghost as whilst I love the original, no point wearing something that lasts 5 minutes.

MiaN · 20/12/2024 09:12

Mugler Alien - the OG pre them being bought over Loreal. Nostalgic (retro) but I felt I needed it today. I actually store it in a memory box, as I don't reach out for it much. First time this year.

Do you keep any memory fragrances, you no longer gravitate to but value the familiarity?

AprilLady · 20/12/2024 09:15

SOTD is Bond No 9 Greenwich village. This is one and the same family as BR540, Red Temptation etc with the big, airy sweet sillage but I find this fresher and a bit fruitier and prefer it to the others. Probably too young for me, and I also wouldn’t wear any of the above to the office or on a tube or train given the lingering sillage, so it’s a WFH day fragrance for me.

Cantonet · 20/12/2024 10:26

Friedemodin Rosee de nuit. Sadly discontinued. Woody & spicy for these chilly winds.

happytobemrsg · 20/12/2024 14:08

SOTD is Venus of Verbena by Sana Jardin. It’s not for me. Too citrus. The white flowers & musk are ok, not love. One to put in the pile to share out with the girls over Christmas.

happytobemrsg · 20/12/2024 15:11

@Cantonet that sounds lovely

IDontHateRainbows · 20/12/2024 18:49

Turmeric latte sample arrived today. It's very smoky, almost acrid. I sprayed vanilla 28 over it and as a combo, i quite like it. But not.on its own. .
