I couldn't see a new thread so I'm starting one!

So they can't deliver the cheaper one to Ireland but the 580 euro - yes, sure! I couldn't spend 580 on perfumes I don't know - I much rather buy few bottles I know I will love. But nice lux present for those who have no budget to concern with or maybe deal if someone wants few of the perfumes.

Results of sniffing sesh: I have a new, very expensive love may need to look at dupes. BDK velvet tonka. Liking this brand. Velvet Tonka is vanillar-y and warm with a bit of spiciness coming through.
Couldn't find the vanilla leather.
Also tried loads of others nothing stood out except diptyque philosokos was nice.

Managed to pop into lush and try the Turmeric latte. Much spicier than I thought but I have a sample on the way so will give it a proper try then.

Can't stop sniffing my hand with the velvet Tonka onn, must look a proper look on the tram!

My husband loves velvet tonka, hit of almond is very nice. Enjoy! I think they still ahve the buy full bottle, get 10ml free, I felt it was good deal as I was certain I want BDK Gris Charnel so the Leather Vanille 10ml made sense. It is good brand

I am naughty. I just got a 10ml Spray from Scented Samples for £40. Not bad seeing as full bottle is £180 odd. I don't think I'll keep the Turmeric latte 30ml I was going to gift myself for Xmas so this is instead. Girl maths!!!

The liberty scent kit is a weird one.

It’s (technically) decent value, since the 3 x 50ml would cost around £425-435 on their own.

But there’s quite a few that cross over from the last scent kit. So a lot of people won’t want this one if they had the last one. It’s only good if you want those particular 3 large sizes or are sure you can sell them at a good price.

And it’s such a lot of money to risk if you aren’t sure you will like them all. Also more confused by the fact that Hera Reigns is called Hera Rain in the description. Not sure how they got the name of their own perfume wrong 😂 and labelled it as full size when it’s 8ml.

It's strange, I do wonder if they are just trying to flog the perfumes that haven't sold well this year although vanilla powder is quite popular

I went late night shopping on Monday and must have sniffed 100 perfumes. Sampled all the Byredo perfumes and I think Mumbai Noise is my second fave after MG (which is already under the tree). I spotted it was in the Harrods calendar so I've bought an 8 ml from Vinted. The other one I liked was Rose of No Man's Land which surprised me as I'm a bit marmite on rose scents.

Also discovered scents I'd like for spring summer. Acqua di Palma Capri and Panarea and Amouage Sunshine are lovely.

Came home with a 10ml of Commodity Milk + which is a fascinating scent. First sniff I loved it, then as it settled I wasn't sure but once it was worn for over 30mins I loved it again. It sort of reminds me of home made rice pudding which I know doesn't sound enticing but somehow it is.

Commodity Milk sounds delicious!

SOTD is Penhaligon’s Babylon from my discovery set. I wanted to compare it to yesterday’s TBHS. Luckily they are very different to me despite them both having vanilla. I absolutely love Babylon & DH slightly prefers TBHS. I have just enough in my TBHS sample to use on Christmas Day 🎄

I’ve never had a gourmand perfume before but all the cinnamon in TBHS made me think maybe I’d like it. Does anyone have any favourites or recommendations? Are gourmand perfume mainly for cold weather?

MiaN · 18/12/2024 14:42

What is TBHS? Sorry I can't recall

MiaN · 18/12/2024 14:45

Commodity milk didn't work for me, although I am starting to feel that my sense of smell is going back to more normal levels so you never know.
I am not big on gourmands but I do enjoy Casamorati Lira. I don't have Devotion but they are nice too both the regular and intense. If I didn't have Lira I would be buying one of them. Gourmands are not my type, I don't have or know many of them - just a few

Lurkingshark · 18/12/2024 17:00

I wondered if Liberty really fumbled their 12 day scent edit calendar this year and had to get something out last minutes / get rid of stock. I can’t see who it would appeal to ( beyond the deep pocketed, last minute buyers). I feel the custom experience offer should be part of the liberty offer anyway but that’s probably a bit unreasonable.

I went around selfridges a few weeks back and found the fragrance section overwhelming. I ended up just in Dior or Chanel ( massive bottles?) and that was lovely for 20 mins…

SOTD Liberty Maze. I like this but probably need to put more on. Quite sweet, a bit green and a bit jasminey. Definitely not a RP given price but happy using the sample. Probably describes my feelings on all Liberty own fragrances, and I really want to love them!

happytobemrsg · 18/12/2024 17:10

Sorry @MiaN I meant Tiger By Her Side

IDontHateRainbows · 18/12/2024 20:00

In a meeting today and someone I work with immediately commented 'ooh what's that lovely smell' which was the velvet tonka. I also had some gris charnel in my bag which I gave her a spritz of ( privately!) and now she's a convert and wants to buy some! Now that's a successful 'perfume in the office' day...

New Liberty fragrance edit just released. Contents in picture below. Three are 50ml, there is a 30ml and a 20ml and also 5 other travel size perfumes. But £425!

Thanks for sharing this - this edit is too samey imo - 4/5 of the fragrances are in the other scent edit they have / the advent calendar. It’s a shame they haven’t introduced all new scents

I think they must have. No fragrance calendar this year. Then this? I was hoping to put my vouchers towards a fragrance calendar from them and thought it was weird they didn’t do one. Then brought out this random, expensive set with lots of repeats?

Given they didn’t get the name of their own fragrance right, and there’s quite a few misleading errors on the description I am guessing they threw this together very quickly and put it on the website hoping plenty of people would buy it for last minute presents.

I can imagine my dad or dp getting me this if they both didn’t know I shop there and have had fragrance kits from them before.

In all honesty I think Liberty has some problems. Something seems to have shifted in the last few years.

MiaN · 19/12/2024 07:09

Back on sent of the day - well I have monoi oil on part of my body, it is going to have to be Miami Nectar Ellis Brooking & Ouai St Barts spray combo. Full on, I am dreaming of summer type of day for me.

Tested few last night from samples that I was given in Space NK
Initio - initio absolute aphrodisiac, worth a trying for dark/winter vanillas seekers. I have enough in this category but will enjoy the sample,
Thammen patalia - not sure, it's ok not something I will be purchasing but maybe I could use the sample. Maybe not.

AprilLady · 19/12/2024 07:34

I think Liberty deliberately didn’t do a 12 day fragrance calendar to avoid competing with the extremely well priced Harrrods one. They are doing this instead, and hoping if it’s presented as a box rather than a calendar they can charge more. The Facebook ad for it I saw said they only have 200 in stock, so they are not expecting it to be a big seller.

It does make the Harrods calendar look extraordinarily good value. That had 275ml of perfume, almost all expensive niche brands, for £185. This has 240ml of perfume including the overpriced Liberty offerings for £425 (or £382 for BD members).

IDontHateRainbows · 19/12/2024 08:00

Vanilla nomad from sana jatdin today. I really am in a vanilla phase...still not sure I like thos one. Spritzed some of my faithful Vanilla 28 from kayali over it.

Enjoyed the sniffing session yesterday ( careful who I say that to!) But I did get over whelmed in the fragrance hall. Think I need a strategy next time. Also nothing worse than spritzing away, liking something but then not being sure what it is as I've sprayed so many .

Stowickthevast · 19/12/2024 08:17

I'm trying Mojave Ghost today which seems to be a thread favourite. Dd1 put me off initially by saying it smelt like some cucumber hand sanitizer we used in lockdown, but I'm assuming the dry down will change!

I've finally got a couple of things I like in Space NK - M+G Leather which reminds me of Santal 33, and Diptyque eau de rose. Also got a small Mojave Ghost although no spray which means I slightly drenched myself in it, and MM lazy Sunday morning which I haven't tried yet.

AprilLady · 19/12/2024 08:27

SOTD is Mitsouko - was dashing for a train so this was an easy reach. Think it will be good for a work Christmas lunch today.

I’ve also come to the conclusion that perfume halls are very quickly overwhelming, and that I easily go nose blind. I am in London near Oxford street periodically for work, and I now go in and try no more than about 5 things I know I want to sample - first on spray cards and then if that is good, on skin. I have to leave the shop though to smell them properly on skin.

Harrods has a staggering range of perfumes under one roof. But the main perfume hall is dense with the smell of everything being tested there, and I find it almost impossible to actually smell anything properly. The perfume hall at the top is very intimidating, but a much better experience when I get the nerve to go.

QueefofSheena · 19/12/2024 08:51

I find that with Liberty too @AprilLady As soon as you walk in you are hit by perfume

MiaN · 19/12/2024 09:57

Agree @AprilLady , I do same. Or when smelling things first trying to smell without even spraying. I work near the city and go to the stores few times a week, using it as motivation to go for walk. I limit myself to one or two sniffs

IDontHateRainbows · 19/12/2024 13:28

I think i need more of a strategy, tempting though it is to just go hog wild and test everything it's not the best way. I probably need to go in with specific ones I want to try, no more than 5, and test on a stick and possibly a finger or something. Then if I like, get a small sample from a sample company or a 10ml off ebay if it's not too much.

IDontHateRainbows · 19/12/2024 13:31

Vanilla nomad is growing on me so just goes to show not to judge too soon. Still don't think it's one I'll purchase a bigger sample on, and it's better mixed with the vanilla 28 but it has a certain herby/floral quality that i'm getting keener on.

happytobemrsg · 19/12/2024 13:46

SOTD is Sana Jardin Revolution de la Fleur from my discovery set. Lovely & sunny here today so wanted to go for something floral. It’s a beautiful perfume & a warm weather contender but I’m wondering if it’s unique enough for the price. Would love to hear thoughts of anyone else who has tried it.

happytobemrsg · 19/12/2024 13:52

I’m looking forward to trying Vanilla Nomad @IDontHateRainbows
