I couldn't see a new thread so I'm starting one!

@IDontHateRainbows Oh no! I didn’t get those vibes at all thankfully 😂 I hope the people who smelt me today didn’t either!

@lovehatesummer that one is in my discovery set so I’ll give that a go.

I used to only wear one perfume at a time & from October 23 to May 24 I wore Jo Malone Poppy & Barley. I really loved it. But now when I smell it, it smells really sharp (to be fair, that’s smelling it from the bottle). Just doesn’t seem to have the softness I’m liking now.

CorneliaStreet · 16/12/2024 19:26

I struggled a bit with the Sana Jardin sample set. I did quite like Incense Water and Tiger By Her Side is lovely. I found Berber Blonde way too strong and headache inducing, but I find that with quite a few orange blossom perfumes.

The one I really didn’t get on with was Savage Jasmine. That literally smelled of poo to me. Not only scrubbed off but immediately removed from the house!

I got the set last year and I’ve still got a few of the samples which I haven’t tried properly (still recovering from Savage Jasmine 😆).

CorneliaStreet · 16/12/2024 19:31

If anyone is looking for a rose scent, Rosa de Rio by Karen Timson is absolutely lovely. Top notes of rose and citrus, middle cachaca and lime and then patchouli and tonka in the base. Smells of rose combined with a caipirinha, which sounds odd but it is really beautiful.

happytobemrsg · 16/12/2024 19:32

I didn’t like Berber Blonde either @CorneliaStreet I’m a bit wary to try Savage Jasmin now 😳

What would everyone say is the best all round discovery set?

CorneliaStreet · 16/12/2024 19:36

My favourite discovery set has been the Gallivant one. All the scents are designed evoke different cities. My favourite is Los Angeles but I also love Tel Aviv and Gdansk.

I also enjoyed the Maison Margiela Replica, ended up getting By the Fireplace and Coffee Break in full sizes.

Where would I get a sample from / go to try this?

CorneliaStreet · 16/12/2024 19:53

I think I ordered a few samples direct from her website. I think it was this one www.karentimson.co.uk/products/discovery-set

At the risk.of repeating myself, I can't failt the byredo grand discovery kit. Thinking of buying another one and selling the samples I tried/ keeping the ones I sold. You have to be committed to buying a full size bottle, only then is it worth it. And it's expensive.

I actually prefer the kits of 5 x 7.5ml or 10ml but they are expensive and a bit of a gamble. I tried the Vyrao one and ended up onkg liking one or two.

AprilLady · 16/12/2024 20:29

SOTD was Memo French Leather from a sample. Not what I was expecting at all. It’s a rosy/musky/vetiver scent with some similarities to Delina. I didn’t get any leather at all. Overall nothing special.

Howmanyroses · 16/12/2024 20:32

I am stuck on a loop of Ginger Biscuit, LM Ambre Vanille and Delina. All really lovely scents, and very comforting. guess a bit boring to report wearing the same 2-3 perfumes every day on this thread, but at least it means I am getting closer to figuring out what I actually like in a perfume 😃

I saw a video about why Jasmine perfumes can tip towards fecal. It’s down to indole and whether a perfume uses actual jasmine vs hedione . It was a really interesting video.

More complicated that how I have stated here. But does ex Lain why I enjoy some Jasmine scents and others smell like death to me.

potplantsinparadise · 16/12/2024 20:37

@happytobemrsg I got the änd sample pack and the DS & Durga Greatest Hits Vol. 1 earlier in the year, both of which which had a high hit rate. Am very tempted by the mega Byredo one.,.

hughiedoesntfight · 16/12/2024 20:39

I wore Gris Dior for work today. I do like it, not sure it’s full bottle worthy though. I did prefer oud isphan more. I got a couple of samples of both when I bought diorama and Rouge trafalgar a while ago.

I have put on Kayali Deja vu white flower for bed. I like it but don’t love it. It has the worst staying power in my opinion. Definitely wouldn’t get a full bottle of this.

IDontHateRainbows · 16/12/2024 22:08

LM ambre vanille for bed time. It's a rollerball which I tend to prefer sprays to, but stops me over spraying at least. I really like it. I got the space nk set with the mini oil and body cream.o

I don't like wearing different perfume every single day, like over the last 2 months I have used mostly Athalia, Gris Charnel and Ginger Biscuit. At night iI am back to only wearing Ambre Vanille on my dressing gown. Its not lasting on skin but on my fluffy dressing gown it lasts until next wash and I have it on now while drinking my first cup of coffee. I am not going to mess around with that, is my favourite cozy clean time to relax scent so perfect to me as end and start off the day.

Burning strong black cherry candle in my office room so I may go for Burning Cherry Kayali. Oh how I wish I can snuggle on the couch staying with my fluffy pjs and drink warm tea & watch netflix movie for the day.

MiaN · 17/12/2024 07:56

Change of plan
I am going to burn some Nag Champa incense and have Athalia on.

AprilLady · 17/12/2024 08:52

SOTD FM En Passant again, for another client meeting day.

IDontHateRainbows · 17/12/2024 08:58

Floral street ylang espresso today. Wore this obsessively last year even buying a big bottle. Smelt a bit bitter to my nose today so I mixed with vanilla 28 and wow what a combo! Really works.

I'm going through a vanilla phase atm but your dark ones rather than sickly sweet or summery, any recs?

MiaN · 17/12/2024 09:43

My grown up vanilla list

Babylon Penhaligons
Queen of The Night Merchant of Venice
Ginger Biscuit Jo Malone the sweetest but still spicy
Leather Vanille - BDK, the freshest but beautiful

I don't like too sweet vanillas. I like summer vibe with bit of coconut but none of the above fits this category

YSL Babycat is hugely popular and highly rated, not one for me but worth checking

Ooh that'll be me off to Scented samples!

happytobemrsg · 17/12/2024 11:24

SOTD is Tiger By Her Side from my discovery set. I’m getting hot cross buns vibes with the cinnamon. I really like it. I could bathe in cinnamon!

Despite the fact that I’m enjoying trying all these new fragrances I’m really just looking for a core collection of say no more than 8 perfumes over the course of the year. Would Halfeti, Babylon & Tiger By Her Side make a nice cold weather collection? Or is it too samey? I’m drawn to warm, spice & vanilla when it’s cold. Would appreciate opinions!

i think we must have fairly similar tastes, as I have Leather Vanille and Ginger Biscuit and really like both. Haven't tried the other two but now really tempted! This thread will be my financial ruin 😂

Sounds very cosy @MiaN ! I have an Aromatherapy Associates set of scented oils that I use overnight, just rub a bit of oil into pulse points and I swear, it always helps me doze off like clockwork. It's become my nightly ritual and I wouldn't be without it. Bonus is that the oils last ages as you need very little. Neom do body oils as well that are heavenly and you only need the tinist amount at a time.

My opinion get 10mls, use them up before buying full bottle. They are very different perfumes so not samey

IDontHateRainbows · 17/12/2024 18:31

Staying with the vanilla theme, I am wearing a sample of Billy Eilish#1, and whilst I'm usually the first person to shun away from celebrity scents, this is a nice sweet vanilla but not too sickly. Reminds me of v 28, possibly a bit sweeter.

I wonder if I'm particularly craving vanilla scents at the moment due to the weather, also I've gone off sugar due to mounjaro jab, it's like this is replacing it somehow! Ah well much better for the waistline.
