Is Superdry the kiss of death to teen street cred

DS needs a new coat.
He is 16, but is a complete country mouse, and has no real concern for fashion.

He does like orange, and so do I, as he's more visible in the dark walking back from school.
He also likes parkas, as he's tall and anything waist length is more rib length on him (he's 6'3" with a long torso).

I've found this - ticks lots of boxes, but isn't Superdry a bit middle aged? DS is so nerdy that I don't want him to alienate himself even more from the cool kids.

Orange Parka

I need to ask @IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads how do you manage to have A Teen That Wears A Coat ?
My (not teen) DS will shun a coat even if it's freezing , he was worse at school .
Now as a 'sensible adult' I have given up saying to him "Wear a bloody coat" , he'll waft about in his hoodie or gym jacket .

My DD has More Coats Than Fingers so I think I;ve raised her well .

How do you know he prefers female interest..?

Apologies - that should have been ‘any interest’.

Thiis is so area dependent. My kids have superdry coats and shock horror they actually wear them unlike anything else they have had before.

Only Roadmen wear North Face.

Around here (outer SW London) black North Face puffy jackets are practically school uniform.

Midlifecareerchange · 06/12/2024 21:26

the teens at the very very expensive London day school I work in all wear north face. I don't think they've heard of road men 😂

Doubledded123 · 06/12/2024 22:49

Go to JD on a Saturday - you'll see groups of roadmen
They wear Nike and hangout together
Dry fit tops, hi top Nike and that bunch hair look with a low taped fade.

,...

MidnightMeltdown · 06/12/2024 22:51

Why do they all want the same jacket/brand? How boring! When I was a teen I always wanted to find something that nobody else had.

If you had the same coat as someone else then you'd likely be accused of 'copying' when I was at school.

Thevelvelletes · 06/12/2024 22:56

I was walking behind five of the identikit North face/Nike kids they looked like the russian dolls all the same but different sizes.
It's look's depressing not a different colour between them.

MidnightMeltdown · 06/12/2024 23:06

😂 Conformity is clearly 'in' at the moment. Who would've thought that kids like uniforms.

We live rurally enough we can be battered by bad weather, but just about have a passable bus service so that DS has to go out in the weather to get himself to school, rather than being driven there.

Also - he has some sensory issues, he likes a big coat with a hood to retreat into. It's getting him to take it off in the summer that is the problem.

DD(13) won't wear a coat.

Well, my 16 year old girl (also in rural West Yorkshire!) is currently attending college every day in a bright red Christmas jumper with a cat on it, teamed with her Primark jeans... So can't really help with the current teenage trends, she flat out refuses anything that may possibly be considered trendy! 💁😂

sellotape12 · 07/12/2024 08:28

.. off topic, but what is this trend of teenage boys having a giant mop of curly hair on their head that looks a real mess? I’m so naive because my boy is only two haha. Every teenage boy I see looks the same and he’s hiding under a huge mop on his head. Is it a perm!?

Here the teens might actually implode from 'cringe' if they wear or see anyone wearing a coat. God forbid warm and dry 🙄

I think Superdry is a wee bit naff. The North Face and Berghaus are both enduring brands across all ages. North Face IS a brand worn by some as a status, but it's generally always clear to whom that applies.

Yes agreed.
Live in a fairly middle class rural area and North Face is worn by teenage boys , middle aged dads and walkers.
I don't think it's as simple as saying it's a 'chav' brand.

I agree. It was distinctly uncool to wear what everyone else was.

I noticed more curly haired boys and young men now , it’s more fashionable now to embrace your curls / waves so lots of younger men (and women ) who would have blow dried / styled their hair straight, now encourage the natural curls with the right products .
I am all for it as it is healthy for their hair

Yup! 😂She loves that flippin' jumper. We are waiting for a slightly different green one to arrive, for her to alternate with but Yodel have let us down and not delivered it by when they were supposed to do. She is a bit ND though!

WaitingforStrike · 07/12/2024 10:48

North face is so expensive, how can it be associated with being "chav"? (Unpleasant term)

My son is gutted that he doesn’t have the curls to pull this off. Apparently perming is back too 🙈

Vinted and Depop always have lots of discount, and probably, counterfeit North Face.
