* Please avoid dropping hints or spoilers about future contents if you have opened the calendar in advance. * (Edited at request of the OP by MNHQ)

It is one sleep away! We’ve all been very patient, since Liberty London revealed their advent calendar in June this year.

Reveals from 7am GMT each morning please. This is to harmonise discussion/shift work/different time zones.

How does this fit in with the good genes? If I'm using good genes every other night should I wait till that runs out before using this new one? Or is it ok to use once a week as well as Good Genes?

Use one at a time in case you get delayed sensitivity - that way, you'll know which one is the culprit. They also have an efficacy that diminishes once opened - same with vit c products.

I saw myself in the mirror this morning and thought my hair looks nice then remembered I put the hair milk on it yesterday, just on dry when I opened the box: Its definately made a difference: I LOVED their hair oil a couple of years ago but can't get it here in France
Another skin resurfacing product and its a mask like one, I can't wait to try it! Can I use this at the same time as the Good Genes one?
I still have the Luna from last year: In fact I only just opened the Paulas choice exfoliator so I guess the Good Genes has to wait:
Does anyone else have so many products open because wether they buy, receive as a gift or find them in the advent calendar they can't resist openning and trying right there, right then?!
I had a couple of just opened bottles given to me from Beautie pie (glow drops and something else similar, serums), might have to give them to my DH or DD so I can get on with the new ones ;)

I store mine in a drawer in groups - so all cleaners, exfoliators, retinols/vit c's all together and if I know the use by date, I place them in order of need to use by. That way I don't overbuy other products unnecessarily either.

MyStylish40s · 11/12/2024 11:28

Excellent idea @Netaporter

GinandGingerBeer · 11/12/2024 13:47

I've not opened mine yet as I have a bit of a backlog! Tbh votary isn't a brand I like very much due to the smell.
Does it smell anything like the superseed facial oil? (Pongy boiled cabbage? 🤣)

imp2007 · 11/12/2024 15:06

I'm a little bit nervous of todays but love Votary as a brand - despite the smell @GinandGingerBeer 😂 they are often one of my fave products think fairly gentle so hopefully this will be all good. It's a shame I had such a bad reaction to the Luna oil last year as it's making me much more worried about trying all these gorgeous new products. Thinking to start with the good genes so will save today's for the New Year. @Netaporter your drawer sounds amazing and super organised! 🥰

Ha, this was my first thought when I saw the brand! I had to chuck their products before because of it. This doesn't seem to have a particular smell though thankfully!

Day 11! Christmas is 2 weeks today!!!

Votary Sensitive Resurfacing Peel 30ml FULL SIZE
Value £70

This wasn’t for sale when the contents was released in June. It’s exciting to have a completely new product, I look forward to trying it. I like Votary products, I had a Votary facial at Liberty once and my skin looked amazing after, the facial was redeemable against products. Wasn’t too into their brand approach myself, like their face oils drip out slowly so that you have to relax and take time - no not for me. This one is more lactic acid, Sunday Riley Good Genes is more glycolic acid (with a little lactic).

The Votary website itself says use once a week. votary.co.uk/products/sensitive-resurfacing-peel

Our skin is slightly acidic anyway, all the acids in skincare can be quite confusing. Glycolic and lactic are AHAs which are resurfacing, lactic is more gentle. Which is what Votary is all about.

I just don’t think healthy skin needs resurfacing, “sloughing” or peeling. I use hyaluronic acids a lot which is mean to increase moisture of your skin. I think that’s the best way to prevent aging and lines, is prevent pulling and keep skin hydrated in and out, and lots of massage to keep it well drained. I don’t apply any peeling acid all over my face, with my finger tips to where I want it and definitely should not sting.

All the MN beauty experts are on the Waifs and Strays thread at the moment , really good place to ask questions. www.mumsnet.com/talk/style_and_beauty/5220847-general-waifs-and-strays-beauty-advent-calendar-opening-thread-2024 And there was a beauty hoarders thread where people aim to get through their stash can’t find one now. The AC thread discussion is still going with Christmas bargains and deals but definitely don’t go there if you don’t want spoilers! www.mumsnet.com/talk/style_and_beauty/5219561-beauty-advent-calendars-2024-7

This article is a good guide on all the acids in skincare: https://www.vogue.in/beauty/content/beginners-guide-to-skincare-acids-hyaluronic-acid-lactic-acid-more
And this one is specifically on the peeling ones - https://www.cerave.com/skin-smarts/skincare-tips-advice/understanding-the-differences-between-ahas-and-bhas

What’s inside link: www.libertylondon.com/uk/features/beauty/liberty-beauty-advent-calendar-whats-inside.html

I’ve noticed people commenting on instagram when they receive the wrong item for the day as well, if people want to double check. Or if you don’t want spoilers , definitely avoid instagram comments.

Sorry if I’ve missed any points I am not keeping up with this thread properly

hello, may I join please? My son in law gifted this to me on Sunday 8th (as he has done for the last 3 years!), and I was away in Brighton at a gig on 9th so I've got a bit of catching up to do!

Praying my daughters give me son in laws like this lol! Welcome to the thread @measureofmydreams Xmas Smile

@BakeOffRewatch you are such a legend! That was so helpful and informative. Honestly, like a public service announcement!

I generally like Votary, the super seed serum is amazing, although I was less impressed by their nutrient night cream, it was just ok.

I'm wondering if perhaps I should give this a miss though, as I'm investing all this time, energy and product keeping my (perimenopausal) skin moisturised, would this undo all that good work?

I've used similar products before and generally they're fine, but I seem to be doing something right at the moment and my skin is particularly clear and glowy (if I say so myself!), so keen not to upset the delicate balance!

BakeOffRewatch · 11/12/2024 21:39

@TriciaMcMillan ive just read the 1 review on Space NK website and 2 reviews on Cult Beauty website, all 3 reviews rave about it and talk about how gentle it is. I’m really
looking forward to trying it now. I rate the consumer reviews on those websites as most reviewers have tried all the products and know their ingredients and textures. The Votary website itself says it’s about reducing redness. I don’t know how that plays with it being a 10% product. If you’ve already opened Good Genes maybe use it later in the year? From reading the reviews I think I’ll use it as a once a month thing where I then put on a hyaluronic sheet mask afterwards. Do you think you need an exfoliating and softening shampoo AHA product? If you don’t, don’t feel like you have to use it. I do really rate Votary, just don’t have the time for their approach but I do think that’s exactly what works - taking your time to massage premium quality products.

BakeOffRewatch · 11/12/2024 21:45

Oh the two reviews on the CB website are by staff members! CB has terrible customer service so I’m not sure I’d trust their staff reviews. The Space NK review was left by someone 45+ with sensitive skin www.spacenk.com/uk/skincare/treatment/peels/sensitive-resurfacing-peel-MUK200052540.html

Good point about the reference to it being gentle and for sensitive skin. That review is also helpful, coming from a woman also of a certain age! I'll give it a try I think. Another good drawer!

lostonadustyrock · 12/12/2024 06:00

Happy with today’s item. Had it before, never re-bought as can’t get it here :)

AnnieFrancais · 12/12/2024 07:05

Todays is a product I use and love, also the elasticizer which I've been using for years and when I use it regularly people really notice: Id definitely make the most of it by using more as a mask and leaving it on for 10 mins or more rather than just on top of your normal conditioner: I leave it on when in the bath or doing an exercise video

Chickydoo · 12/12/2024 10:54

Used today's productions morning, my hair feels glorious! No idea why I've never considered it before. I am a convert

Chickydoo · 12/12/2024 10:55

Product not productions 🤦‍♀️

mountparmo · 12/12/2024 12:44

I've got yet another different product today, assuming another mixed up box. I'm getting a bit sick of not having the right stuff!

countdowntonap · 12/12/2024 16:03

@mountparmo i also don’t have a hair product today!

Have you complained?
I didn't get the Bibbi perfume instead got something else. I complained and got a Bibbi perfume sent out pretty quickly- even though it's probably in a different drawer. Their customer service is very good.

Day 12!

Philip Kingsley Elasticizer Booster 50ml FULL SIZE
Value £12 / £10 (£30 for 150ml)

Another that’s billed as Full Size for the advent but Liberty only sell the 150ml. I only found one website that sells the 50ml size.

I’m happy with this, I’ve run out of hair conditioner and I’m sure it would work as a stand alone conditioner. I don’t understand how hair treatments work though. You apply them to clean hair, so do you just stand there shivering for 10-20min? Probably another thing that’s not for my current life stage.

How hair treatments work (in my household)
Get up and wet hair under the tap. Comb through and wrap hair in a shower cap or towel. Make cup of tea and return to bed. Read Mumsnet while drinking tea. Get up have shower and wash hair.
(From a Lurker whose definitely buying this calendar next year)

Wherethewildthingsfart · 12/12/2024 20:55

I love the elasticizer booster.

I tend to save it as the hair mask rather than a conditioner and either lounge in the bath forever or shower, stick in on, drink too much coffee and then wash it off.
