General “Waifs and Strays” Beauty Advent Calendar opening thread 2024

As in previous years, this a thread for those opening Beauty Advent Calendars not covered by specific calendar opening threads (though also happy for contents of those to be shared here too).

Carrying on the traditional from previous years, it will also be fun to hear about other calendar openings - Degusta, jam, escape room anyone?

I know there are mixed feelings on this, but many of us would really appreciate it if spoilers are not posted before 7am on the relevant day. Please also avoid dropping hints or spoilers about future contents if you have opened the calendar in advance.

Posting pictures of contents is also always much appreciated.

I’ll be opening the Space NK and Harrods calendars this year. Really looking forward to Day 1 tomorrow.

Scandinavisk Skog in J L candles today. It's actually number 2 but I'm opening alternate days. Smells piney, a bit like WC Fir Tree.

SpaceNk and Harvey Nichol's. Really happy with both, wearing the eye shade from Trinny today. Beautiful sheer neutal colour and gorgeous shine, love it. The face cream is 15ml and it's quick absorbing. I will try the hair product tonight. All new products new to me

Day 3 HM x OK

2 handbag size Tocca perfumes in F&M today - Tocca Guilietta and Lucia. Not a brand I’ve tried before and both quite nice.

A small yellow bum bum cream and a Sol de Janeiro oil in ASOS today, have given to DD, still grateful for my day 1 lipstick!

this silk scarf. I knew it would be a meh for me, as I don’t wear this style scarf really, I quite like them used as twillys on handbags but sadly, I don’t have a birkin, so not sure it’ll go with any I have!

Todays M&S was a mini elasticiser, am pleased with that as I really think I’ve tried every hair treatment going and always come back to that one!

ASOS sounds quite good, I don't think I considered it!

@Greyrockin oh I have the f&m a few years back and got 2 just like these, not sure what scent names though. I always struggle to wear ones that come with no spray though!

Day 3 of Lookfantastic and a double door of shampoo and conditioner. I've not used this brand before so will give it a go.

Dd2 was delighted with the Bum Bum cream & oil in Asos.

I got two Escentric Molecules perfumes in Space NK fragrance - a DoD for me - and some lovely looking green tea with mandarin & ginger biscuits from F&M.

Day 3 of Boots unlimited: First Aid Beauty Bump Eraser Body Scrub. Happy with that although I might need a bigger tube 😆

I’m really impressed with ASOS. Dd is in heaven each morning.

Good day 3 all round:

Harrods: A Clarins day moisturiser - full size and not something I have used before. A google suggests it is designed for dry, menopausal skin. Very happy to give it a go.

Space Nk: KI8 Hair repair leave in mask. This will be interesting to try and gets mostly really good reviews, though I am a bit nervous about how well shampooing but not conditioning beforehand will work. Good size again too.

F&M tea: Darjeeling - probably my favourite tea, so very pleased.

I have been emailing them and got no reply to my last two emails. I can't understand why they didn't ship the international orders before the local ones as apparently they started shipping on the 22nd and mine wasn't shipped until the 27th.

Jo Malone - Fir & Artemisia cologne

Bare minerals - Lip Gloss

Dermalogica - multi active toner (another that I use so happy with this travel size)

I wish my Shiseido stuff was coming with instructions for use. The cleanser was obvious. but I just googled the tiny night serum and apparently it’s supposed to go on AFTER moisturiser and be massaged in with a special technique, (no details on how to do this so I will just rub it in with my paws as usual!)

It would have made sense to give the moisturiser first - maybe there’ll be some of that today.

Oooh all these openings look great!

At least the silk scarf is out the way early from vogue- could you gift it to anyone?

I am really enjoying seeing what everyone else is opening & thank you for this thread.

I did like the look of it when previewing. There must have been a couple of won't use items for me. Will look again next year though.

Also loving seeing the goodies in all the different calendars. It’s becoming clear why so many sold out quickly - lots of really good stuff.

I have to say I rather like the Vogue scarf, though it’s probably something I would buy with good intentions and then never quite find the right time to wear.

I would like to be the type of person who wears a vogue scarf in an effortlessly artistic way but alas, I am not.
