I get the dreaded camel toe in every pair of leggings I ever buy and it’s starting to piss me off

I’ve just bought a gorgeous pair of Sweaty Betty power leggings, and was so excited to put them on, but there it is again. It doesn’t matter whether they’re cheap, expensive, what brand, what fabric, it always happens.

it’s not because they’re too small or tight- I’m a size 10 and I’ve bought a high waist pair in medium, they’re actually a tiny bit baggy at the knees. I’m wondering if it’s because I’ve got narrow violin hips but chubby thighs, so they always rub at the top.

The only way I seem to be able to get rid of it is to wear them so low that I get a muffin top and they’re baggy and wrinkled everywhere else. Is there another solution?

These leggings aren’t size 10, they’re a medium, which according to the website is equal to a 12. So I’ve already gone up a size.

Don’t try a larger pair - they would be massive. These ones already look too big. I think you need a smaller size. Also, are these ones full length? Looking at your ankles there is some excess fabric there. Maybe try the 7/8 length and see if they sit better.

I've got the good move leggings and don't get this ridiculously named situation. I usually only wear them when I'm poorly and just want comfortable clothes.

It’s mostly for the gym but also occasionally for day to day- I don’t like wearing jeans all the time but also don’t always want to be in sweatpants or joggers.

I ended up going into M&S today and getting the goodmove leggings- the style is virtually identical but thicker, less stretchy fabric, and they actually look ok- I got a 10 and a 12, I think the 10s actually look marginally better but will see how they look tomorrow in the cold light of day!

It's a fairly recent thing that leggings are worn in this way, they aren't actually meant to be trousers. I wear them with a baggy sweatshirt sometimes, shows some bum but skims over the front as they don't look great on me in that area. Three c sections have not helped! Can't compare yourself to the models wearing the same leggings they are built completely differently to you and most of us

twohotwaterbottles · 08/11/2024 20:43

I wonder if they're too big OP. I have SW power leggings and mine are tight around the knee. SW do some darker coloured ones with a sort of cameo pattern. You wouldn't be able to see your foof in those.

If recent means the within last 35 years, you have a point. I’m in my 60s and can remember them being worn as every day wear in the early 1990s.

Wear a baggy t shirt and you won't see it.

BusterGonad · 09/11/2024 04:07

I don't think leggings (instead of trousers) look good on anyone except the tall, slim and athletic types. There's nothing worse then seeing a wobbly arse whilst trying to do your shopping, or worse one bent over exposing everything as the leggings are turn virtually transparent.

Checking a photo of me wearing something close, they look like the “photoshopped” pictures in the OP.

I only wear leggings for the gym and exercise, but am not averse to popping into the shops on the way there. I am a part time gym instructor/PT and my bum doesn’t wobble.

If the OP is intending to wear her leggings at the gym, her “problem” is nothing compared to what I see pretty much every day. Nobody cares.

If it happens no matter what leggings you buy perhaps they just aren’t flattering for your shape. They’re pretty unforgiving garments.

This^^

You are lovely and slim with a great figure. Way nicer than mine! But leggings just may not be for you? I agree with you that the front looks bad in the pics but i can also see they are too big for you!

Maybe try a smaller size than usual? I size down in leggings thinking about it. Have you tried an 8?

Bossygal · 09/11/2024 09:01

Op you’re pulling them up too far. They are tight round your crotch and you’ve pulled them up giving you that look. You need to wear them slightly lower down. There isn’t a woman alive who if she pulls tight leggings up that far won’t have the same issue. The models in the photos would too. They are simply not pulled up like that.

Pepperypottery · 09/11/2024 09:52

You don’t want to wear joggers but SB Gary yoga trousers are so comfortable I think they are a good half way house between legging and jogger, very flattering as well

They stopped making them! 😭 They now do a pair called Gaia which look similar but get very mixed reviews.

Pepperypottery · 09/11/2024 17:04

Oh sorry I meant Gaia! I have both old and new. I really like the new ones…

SpeedReader · 09/11/2024 17:28

My first suggestion is to not buy leggings in a plain colour, unless black or another dark colour. Prints are your friend.

Good leggings should support you and help provide a flattering shape. This is a product of both fabric and cut. I wear exclusively Lululemon, and I tend to prefer those with more engineering and panels, as it feels like they're doing more 'work' to create a sleeker silhouette. I think the crotch seam is helpful for this. But the key thing is that the fabric stretches over the mound to the front of the hip, rather than gather in your creases.

DaemonMoon · 09/11/2024 17:51

I have my SB leggings on today. They have a crotch seam but no camel toe for me from what I can see.

User19876536484 · 09/11/2024 18:00

I think a lot depends on how you are made. I have leggings with a seam and they just lie flat.

Igavebirthtoabanana · 09/11/2024 18:10

I’m size 8 and an inverted triangle shape (slim hips). I still have to wear Medium in Sweaty Betty but the fit is very good for me. I’m also very short waisted, not sure if that has anything to do with it.

I really doubt OP going size smaller in SW will help, she just needs to try another brand where the cut is sligthly different and therefore will possibly fit better. And as PP said, choose a print rather than a solid colour.

spartanrunnergirl · 09/11/2024 20:53

minipie · 07/11/2024 18:37

Try looking for ones without the crotch seam

I like these

Just bought some of these on this recommendation and they are super! Great for no CT. I'm a size 10/12 and the medium fit is perfect. Thank you @minipie
