I get the dreaded camel toe in every pair of leggings I ever buy and it’s starting to piss me off

I’ve just bought a gorgeous pair of Sweaty Betty power leggings, and was so excited to put them on, but there it is again. It doesn’t matter whether they’re cheap, expensive, what brand, what fabric, it always happens.

it’s not because they’re too small or tight- I’m a size 10 and I’ve bought a high waist pair in medium, they’re actually a tiny bit baggy at the knees. I’m wondering if it’s because I’ve got narrow violin hips but chubby thighs, so they always rub at the top.

The only way I seem to be able to get rid of it is to wear them so low that I get a muffin top and they’re baggy and wrinkled everywhere else. Is there another solution?

So what?

You can conceal all the parts of your body they want you to hide, only for them to come up with a new demeaning term to put down another part of a woman's body.

The only way to break the cycle is to not give a flying fuck.

BeBraveLittlePenguin · 07/11/2024 19:06

Sweet Lord, just don't wear leggings! The devil's outfit of choice.

vegaspot · 07/11/2024 19:07

It's the seam that is the problem!

SweetBobby · 07/11/2024 19:09

It looks like you've pulled them up too high to me.

rugbyclub · 07/11/2024 19:09

I don't think you're a size 10 OP. I'm a 12 and my thighs don't touch at the top like yours do and I only have a tiny bit of muffin top in jeans with zero elastane when I'm sat down. If you're getting a muffin top in stretchy leggings, especially ones with a wide waiste-band like those, you're surely bigger than a 10. The centre seam isn't helping, but can't you see that your body shape is totally different to the models?

Madlentileater · 07/11/2024 19:11

Im glad you asked this OP as it gives me a chance to share my effective, no cost solution

I have the same problem with 1 pair of leggings
I tried using a thin sanitary towel, and it worked well but this isn't something I normally buy (I'm old) and I resent spending money on this problem, so instead,

I wear 2 pairs of pants!!! you can even re-use the outer pair as they haven't been next to your skin!

I'm a genius !!

excelledyourself · 07/11/2024 19:14

"Helluva hoof in a leotard"

Not you personally, OP. It came straight to mind when I read the title.

Stresshead84x · 07/11/2024 19:19

You get that people are different heights and shapes? A 5' size 10 and a 5'8 size 10 are going to look completely different. My thighs touch when I'm a size 8 and when I'm a size 14 its' just the shape of my body, and I've never had a fully flat stomach, it's just where I carry any weight.

OP I think it's just an anatomy thing with a lot of leggings, I really don't suit them either only very soft one that don't cling too much in that area.

You have a prominent pubic mound, that's why.
Mine is the same!
You can reduce the look by wearing supportive underwear that pulls it in and only wearing black leggings.

I did some fat freezing on mine and it worked for a little while but when I gained weight, it came back.

but yes, the key is wearing black leggings (I know, boring) and supportive pants - shape wear or similar.

I only wear these knickers when I wear leggings:

It’s really beginning to get me down. On the website they’re so lovely and smooth, and admittedly the models are way skinnier than I am, but why are they so completely different on me? I see women in leggings all the time of all shapes and sizes who don’t seem to have this problem.

  1. Those photos are photoshopped
  2. A panty liner may help smooth out the CT.

It depends on your height though.

I'm 5ft 1" and I was a size 10 when I was newly postpartum, my thighs definitely touched at the top and legs had a lot of fat on them, whole of me was very chunky. A tall size 10 and a short size 10 look very different.

I'm usually a size 6/8 and no one believes me because my size 8/10 tall friends are slimmer.

All that is to say that without OP's height you can't know "you must be bigger than a 10" just by looking at a picture.

puddingpour · 07/11/2024 19:28

Try Lovall leggings, the tall option. The high waist is really high and I think they'll be a success. Buy your true size.

twentysevendresses · 07/11/2024 19:28

I have a very fatty labia...there's literally no disguising it! Some of us do unfortunately, and some of us are lucky and have a virtually flat labia. It's the luck of the genes I think! Not a chance in hell I can wear ANYTHING that close to my crotch without having a massive camel toe. Dress to your body shape OP 🤷‍♀️

You can have thighs that touch at any size, it depends on the shape of your body, particularly your hips. And if I’m not a size 10, how come all my size 10 clothes fit me?

I only get a muffin top when I pull the waistband lower than it should be (ie no longer round the waist but between my waist and hips, which is wider) to mitigate the CT problem. When the waistband is where the waistband is meant to be it fits perfectly.

Thanks for the low-key fat shaming though.

Yeah Sweaty Betty and LuluLemon seams exacerbate the issue. I stick a panty liner at the front of my pants and it’s like the padding bulks it out a bit more and looks more seam like and less camel toe!

LindorDoubleChoc · 07/11/2024 19:37

It annoys the hell out of me that women have been conditioned to be ashamed about the natural shape of a part of their body. In close fitting clothes it's going to show!

Do men try and hide their trouser bulge? Absolutely not.

Branster · 07/11/2024 19:38

I don't like leggings and never tried on normal leggings.
But I did get a desire to wear the spank leather look version and there is zero camel toe with those and they last for ages. Maybe they do normal leggings too?
No front seam, that's the secret.

caffelattetogo · 07/11/2024 19:39

Some women have bigger pubis mons than others. That's ok and I really wouldn't worry.

StuckInHove · 07/11/2024 19:39

Have you tried wearing a panty shield? Its the only thing that stops my camel toe

LEWWW · 07/11/2024 19:39

Unfortunately it is just your anatomy 😁 has nothing to do with size, try a legging without the middle seam or wear a Panty liner, it may help but won’t disguise it completely.

Honestly my male friend has cycling lyrca shorts which show the outline of his balls/penis and we all take the piss out of him for it. It's so explicit! It's the male equivalent of camel toe and tbh no one wants to see that (I don't think people want to see women's camel toe either)

Isitfridayyetsophie · 07/11/2024 19:43

@Branster this is a really good point, the Spanx leather leggings are brilliant and don’t sit awkwardly. Spanx do do normal leggings, https://www.johnlewis.com/spanx-ecocare-seamless-leggings-very-black/p111920933 I have these, I recommend sizing down as my usual size was a bit loose around the waist

Moose Knuckle... The curse of all MAMILs whatever their age.

onwardsup4 · 07/11/2024 19:55

Yea that centre seam is awful and not helping. Like pp said only solution is not to care, leggings and camel toe goes hand in hand surely ? You can't help what your body is like yea you could have a more skinnier fanny?! But you don't so either embrace it or cover it up. Solidarity though I hate that area on me and c section area in a lot of jeans and trousers.
