Dressing gown possibilities

Marmaladegin · 03/11/2024 14:22

Thinking of asking for a dressing gown for Christmas. My dilemma is: fleece is light and cosy but can look a bit scraggy quite quickly. Cotton towelling stays looking nice but is heavy and not very cosy. Please someone tell me I'm wrong (especially with recommendations).
I particularly like:

I have this one and love it. It's thick cotton, is extremely comfortable and imo warmer than the plastic (poly) ones which just make you sweat under them.

I have one of these, it's towelling inside and velour outside so you get the best of both worlds.

PiggyPigalle · 04/11/2024 16:35

This one came today in dark brown, it looks like a mink coat on. The fleece is very luxe and silky, nothing like the supermarket ones.
Not sure of the colour and might swap for the stone beige. I'm usually very decisive.

I've got 2 from lands end (ideal for me as they do petite sizes) - towelling as a bathrobe, and a fleecy one that I've had for years without it getting scraggy. It's the plushy sort of fleece, nothing like the sort you use for walking.

sarsaparillatree · 04/11/2024 17:10

Some years ago my daughter gave me a dressing gown for Christmas and it was perfect.
Cosy fleece - it has been washed loads and still looks OK
Zip up front. Hate ones that flap over with a tie - am forever tightning or pulling closed .
Pockets - whoopeee!!!!

and

it was pink...

(I love pink)

Marmaladegin · 04/11/2024 22:33

@sarsaparillatree well that's all great but where was it from though???

@PiggyPigalle that does look hopeful and actually not terribly priced compared to some...

I do like the prints in the links in your OP, it's a bit hard to tell from the photos what the textures of the fabrics are like though.

Errr... didn't like to admit, but I think it was Bonmarche. The ones that thay have now don't look as good, though 🙁.

ADHDCompressionHelp · 04/11/2024 23:57

Nothing but towelling for me. I got a lovely one from House of Fraser.

I have a White Company towelling robe to use after showering but it's functional, to dry me off. I wanted something to snuggle in over fleecy pyjamas after the heating has gone off. I'm never in bed until after 1am. Whip off the DG and dive into a heated bed, sorted.
I have changed the mink coat colour however for stone.
Now to order M&S Thermal vests and leggings.

PiggyPigalle · 05/11/2024 14:43

Why does M&S come up as a link I wonder? Maybe an arrangement with Mumsnet.

I believe you. I have a pair of trousers in my wardrobe from m&s, wool and cashmere, lined to the knee with the tags still on £45. Imagine that quality now for that price. I must have bought them sometime, found them too big but never returned them.

ParisGellerFTW · 05/11/2024 16:04

I am the same, I have some lovely towelling robes for after bathing, but I prefer a fleece one for general wear.

OP I've got a Seasalt Hushing gown. It's nice and very soft, not as thick as some, which is good as it's not bulky and can look almost elegant. I don't wear it that much because it's kimono-style and I like a thick shawl collar to keep my neck warm!

My favourite, most cuddly, warm robe is this one, but it is silly money, really. I got it on a discount.

It looks like the same sort of nice fleece as my lands end one. It's not such silly money if you're buying decent quality if you think of cost per wear and it lasts years, it's not like you need to worry about it going out of fashion.

ParisGellerFTW · 05/11/2024 16:32

Yes, true. I winced a bit when I bought it, but I'd been wanting it for a while, and I do get a lot of use and enjoyment from it.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 05/11/2024 16:34

I don’t know if the current ones are the same quality but it seems like ages ago (pre Covid) I bought a dressing gown from Monsoon. Keeps me very warm even when legs are barer than I’d like this time of year.

DM has a Seasalt dressing gown which she says is warm (not bought by me) and an older M&S fleece style dressing gown which she also says is warm.

dottyaboutstripes · 05/11/2024 16:39

I have the same as this from a few years ago and I LOVE it!

Google zipped dressing gowns. Cotton Traders do one and Bonmarche and Debenhams do them too.

From the pics I saw I wasn’t a fan but you may like them.

lcakethereforeIam · 05/11/2024 17:28

Does anywhere sell cosy dressing gowns with 3/4 length sleeves?

TribulationPeriwinkle · 05/11/2024 17:40

I have one of the Seasalt ones and it’s really soft, warm and cosy, without being too heavy or sweaty.

PyreneanAubrie · 05/11/2024 17:41

I bought the Seasalt Hushing Gown earlier this year and I've lived in it. It's so comfy although I did size up to XL so it would completely envelop me. It has washed well and still feels nicely plush. I'm planning to get another one while they have offers on. Best robe/dressing gown I've ever had.
Glad of it at the moment as my puppy is getting me up at 5am 🙄

YYURYYUCICYYUR4ME · 05/11/2024 17:55

I have the older design of the Seasalt dressing gown you've tagged - three years and counting and it definitely does not look scraggy. Check for a voucher code!

TianasBayou · 05/11/2024 18:37

I have a black M&S fleece gown that still looks brand new, it must be 10 years old.
I bought the Seasalt hushing gown last winter to ring the changes and that is also lovely. Highly recommend especially as the colours and patterns are gorgeous.

TianasBayou · 05/11/2024 18:39

This is men's one but it looks gorgeous https://www.marksandspencer.com/fleece-supersoft-dressing-gown/p/clp60513890?intid=mobileappppdpshare

I think the Oodie dressing gowns looks lovely.
