Dressing gown possibilities

Thinking of asking for a dressing gown for Christmas. My dilemma is: fleece is light and cosy but can look a bit scraggy quite quickly. Cotton towelling stays looking nice but is heavy and not very cosy. Please someone tell me I'm wrong (especially with recommendations).
I particularly like:

Sorry to hi-jack this very helpful thread, but does anyone know of any black plus-sized long dressing gowns that are not calf length? I really dislike the "white legs sticking out the bottom" look 😄. Looking for something made of warm material but not thick fleece. Without a hood!

Long tall sally are good for floor length dressing gowns if you’re at least 1 m 70. The black with stars is oos in the larger sizes atm. www.longtallsally.com/lts-tall-black-foil-star-print-maxi-dressing-gown-p?queryid=033b25bbe15aa656e00cbfcee5050c3d&objectid=73416&position=17

This one came today in dark brown, it looks like a mink coat on. The fleece is very luxe and silky, nothing like the supermarket ones.
Not sure of the colour and might swap for the stone beige. I'm usually very decisive.

I've got one from M and S that's like these, also very cosy and so far lasting well.

I have a white company cotton velour one that's lasted really well for the past 6-7 years

Princessfluffy · 06/11/2024 19:10

I bought a fleece one from Asda several years ago and it still looks gorgeous, surprisingly good quality.

toenails · 07/11/2024 08:02

I have this and it's gorgeous. Probably not what you're looking for, OP, but someone on here might like it. If you want the contrasting edge, as in the photo, you have to order the longer length (as I discovered and which isn't made clear):

I think to fulfill your needs you need two dressing gowns. I have a very absorbent cotton towelling one I wear after showering and on hot days. I also have a very plush cosy fleece one. It practically repels water and is strictly for warmth and comfort on cold days.

Neither of them were expensive about £25 each on Amazon but as a dressing gown wardrobe they fulfill all my needs.

I had one of these and it was lovely, but too thin for winter. On the website they say that they do them in velour in the blurb at the top, but I can't see any actual products that are thicker/

Little greene masquerade.

this is not my sitting room.

Edited to say wrong thread!

I just find that all dressing gowns end up looking like the dressing gown of doom quite quickly.

Sheneversaidthat · 08/11/2024 17:17

I have the Seasalt one in a different pattern. I like it, it’s warm in the colder months and it doesn’t look disgusting.

Sheneversaidthat · 08/11/2024 17:18

This is lovely

Thank you everyone for replying. I have now visited JL and can confirm that Cece one (how does everyone paste a link but change the text so that it's not massive? I can't work it out!) is incredibly soft and luxurious. I'm not bowled over by the colour choices and am wondering if I might look like a giant teddy, which is less elegant than I was hoping for... so still pondering

That is the problem with fleece it’s not elegant.

RosesAndHellebores · 17/11/2024 10:52

A Rituals shop has just opened locally. They have dressing gowns which are towelling inside and velour outside. There was a good selection of colours too. They are £89 so not cheap but the quality looks nice.

I settled for the Stone JL one. I had the Rosie one from Marks to compare, because from the picture the fabrics looked the same. In reality, there was no comparison.
There's a lot more of the Marks Rosie DG. Sleeves longer and the body length was almost to my ankles, I'm 5.7 height. It also has side seam pockets and looked odd without something to break up the front.
Overall, it was just too much dressing gown.

Having said all that, I don't think I'll ever wear a DG at all apart from the towelling one after a shower. I haven't put it on since buying it. I intended wearing it of an evening watching television but I sit on a heated throw and they are too bulky to do anything else in.

Oblomov24 · 17/11/2024 13:16

I'm still looking for a new one.

Illneverutteracrosswordagain7 · 17/11/2024 17:58

I’m getting to the point where I am going to make my own. I usually only make cushions, bags, toys and not clothes. But dressing gowns are worth the effort imho.

Isabelle70 · 17/11/2024 20:39

I think I might put the Seasalt one on my Christmas list. My current winter gown is at least 15 years old from the Next Christmas sale, certainly got my moneys worth.
What is the sizing like? A medium for a size 14?

Magpiecomplex · 17/11/2024 20:46

This is reassuring, I'd already asked for the Seasalt one for Christmas to replace my ancient M&S one!

Mirabai · 17/11/2024 22:08

I received the Seasalt gown for Christmas and it's lovely, a really good quality fleece.

Marmaladegin · 12/01/2025 07:40

To report back: I received the JL one and it makes me happy every time I put it on- it's so luxurious
