Three quarter sleeved jumpers - why?

Occasionally I see these and I'm always baffled, who wants to be cold, or have something that bunches up when you wear a coat.

OP posts:

Me. I’m tall with long arms and sleeves are always too short so 3/4 sleeves are a good option.

I loathe 3/4 length sleeves in autumn, winter and early spring.
If my wrists are cold I'm cold.

Same. They are pointless - not warm enough in cold weather and too warm in hot weather.

I have long arms and 3/4 length sleeves make me look even more gangly.

DancingLions · 01/11/2024 21:05

For me the longer the sleeve the better! I have ludicrously long arms so regular arm length jumpers end a couple of inches before my wrist which makes it look like I'm wearing something too small!

But i agree with you, if it's cold enough for a jumper then it's cold enough for long sleeves, see also short sleeved jumpers!

VintedoreBay · 01/11/2024 21:05

I had a (free) personal stylist appointment at John Lewis and the lady said actually that is the style I need otherwise there's too much material for my body shape. Or something like that.

Funnily enough I naturally roll sleeves up to 3/4 length anyway!

So anyone finds any lemme know

sugarpiehoneymunch · 01/11/2024 21:09

I'm with you OP! Team long sleeves here!

LordFartQuads · 01/11/2024 21:09

I love 3/4 length sleeves in everything except a jumper! I pike the look but ultimately Im a hands on person and sleeves being down to my wrists piss me off so I push them out of the way. I just push the sleeves up on jumpers, but have the option of full length if it gets properly cold.

FastFood · 01/11/2024 21:21

Hate them. i don't find the look flattering, and as OP mentioned, they bunch up when putting a coat on. This makes me so irrate, similar as when a sock slips under the foot.

I'm more of a rolled-up sleeves person. So I have some length to tug on when putting a jacket on.

FormerlySpeckledyHen · 01/11/2024 21:34

I can not stand long sleeves. Always push up jumpers, roll up shirts or buy 3/4 length to start with.

edit to say even thinking about long sleeves for this is really really irritating 😬

TheOGCCL · 01/11/2024 21:37

I'm another one who hates excess material flapping round my wrists. Showing wrists is a good foil for all the baggy clothes around now. I agree not as warm as full length but ok for a lot of the year.

henlake7 · 01/11/2024 21:54

I hate them, I would rather have long sleeved, elbow length or shorter. Those ones that stop mid forearm just have me constantly tugging to try and stretch them!
And yet ironically I constantly wind up with wet sleeves from hand washing/washing up!🙄

@minisomum, House of Bruar have merino ones in the sale.
They've also got a few other ¾ sleeve boat necks.

That jumper is the worst of both worlds on me. Boat necks don't suit my scrawny shoulders and the too short arms are, well, just too short.

3/4 is everything I look for in a jumper / T-shirt / dress. I LOATHE having anything around my wrists. Also cannot bear a full collar / polo neck on a shirt, it makes me incredibly stressed.

Same on both! Collars make me feel choked

mdinbc · 01/11/2024 22:47

I'm on the like-them side, but t-shirts make more sense than jumpers.

I'm on keyboard all day long so they don't get in the way, same for doing dishes and cooking. It drives me mad when I see a tv cooking show with the host in long sleeves..

I have short arms and get tired of the horrible sensation of damp cuffs.

LucyLocketLovesPollyPocket · 01/11/2024 23:39

Tall and 3/4 length anything brings me back to a childhood of having clothes than never fit my tall structure. Hate them. Anything cropped is hated. 😅

MaidOfAle · 01/11/2024 23:41

There is no point to jumpers with 3/4 sleeves. Likewise, short-sleeved jackets. If it's cold enough for a jumper or jacket, it's cold enough for full sleeves.

Sayoonara · 02/11/2024 08:34

I like them. I'm short, so long sleeves are generally far too long.

I did just buy an And Other Stories alpaca jumper though and feel like it may be an error. The sleeves are half / three-quarter, but loose. Haven't worn it yet but think I may end up with cold arms (rather than just the expected colder wrists).

BigDahliaFan · 02/11/2024 09:24

They suit my proportions. I've got big norks and can look very frumpy in jumpers unless they are V neck or very thin and tight. The 3/4 sleeve ones with a boat neck look good (but not v neck 3/4 sleeves). I always roll shirt sleeves up too.

Colliechristmasgettingolder · 02/11/2024 09:25

I find them quite flattering ☺️

my body shape is rather potato-y so having nice dainty wrists makes me feel better!

Newterm · 02/11/2024 09:30

Me too. I’m thin, thin legs, thin body, but my upper arms are bloody awful wings and my elbows have sun spots on them. So I always cover my arms at the top.

RosesAndHellebores · 02/11/2024 09:33

Love them. I ruin full length sleeves by pushing them up.

GettingStuffed · 02/11/2024 09:35

I have long arms, most tops look better if I push the too short sleeves up a bit.

downwindofyou · 02/11/2024 09:41

Because they can look chic. They can also look matronly. As with most things, it's all in the detail
