What's the winter equivalent of linen trousers?

I'm looking for winter trousers to wear instead of jeans. I want them to be smart/casual like linen trousers can be but would like them to be in a warm comfortable and drapery fabric. What am I looking for? I don't want cargos, joggers or cords as they are too casual or stuff like jeans. But other trousers seem too formal as they come in black grey beige. Any ideas?

Just screw up cotton trousers and they’ll look like linen 😀.

I got some black loose fitting around the legs yoga pants from amazon - so comfy and mine have pockets. Smarter than joggers, but not so loose they are flappy.
And if it's a bit nippy, I just wear tights underneath.

Chinos?

Just bought these from Uniqlo, which can be dressed up if you want. www.uniqlo.com/uk/en/products/E471642-000/00?colorDisplayCode=09&sizeDisplayCode=006&pldDisplayCode=000

Following with interest.
I think it should be trousers with wool but I rare see them and usually they are too formal and/or quite expensive.

Chersfrozenface · 21/10/2024 08:56

Thee's a blue wool blend wide leg trouser in the Damart sale.

I'd post a link if it weren't stupidly long.

BubblePerm · 21/10/2024 09:04

More Uniqlo trousers that look very nice and not so wide-legged:

Wool trousers. You might find some in a charity shop (I’ve got several pairs from charity shops) or on eBay. They can’t just be bunged in the washing machine though. They’re not as easy to care for as linen.

I’m also looking for a jeans alternative. Thanks for Uniqlo link. Charity shop a good shout, if they’re cheap I’d risk hand washing.

Ponte fabric drapes well but is thicker than summer-weight trousers.

No idea with what 'ponte' is - a style of knit, perhaps?

I didn't know chinos were a winter thing. This makes me very happy, thank you!

AngelsWithSilverWings · 21/10/2024 10:26

I'm wearing my saint and Sofia apartment pants today. Can look smart or casual depending what you wear with them. I think they are more flattering than linen trousers too. So comfortable and easy to wear. I've bought them in black , charcoal and navy for this winter.

I also like apartment pants from Saint & Sofia have two navy and two black pairs which I have had since pre pandemic. M&S do a similar cheaper alternative but no pockets and always out of stock in my size. Or Ninepines are supposed to be good. Or have a look at Seasalt.

Cos have some nice wool trousers in stylish but relaxed cuts. Barrel legs, I think.
And Poetry and Wrap usually do heavy cotton twill trousers that I find warm enough in autumn and most of winter, that look less casual than jeans or joggers but are still relaxed.

HippoStraw · 21/10/2024 12:13

I’m after this too. I’m looking for more of a barrel shape I think. To avoid rain and hem situations. Doesn’t help you OP, sorry! But I’ll post if I find any.

AngelsWithSilverWings · 21/10/2024 12:14

@Rasputin123 I'd like I see the M&S cheaper version do you have a link or a product code? Thanks

SallyWD · 21/10/2024 12:18

You can get thick warm trousers. Not sure what the materials called. I want to say woollen trousers but that sounds they're knitted! Not what I mean.

cryinglaughing · 21/10/2024 12:20

I wear these in different colours, always get compliments and not a bad price too.

Cantgetbehindtheradiator · 21/10/2024 12:21

maybe a wool blend?

stonkytonk11 · 21/10/2024 12:23

A wool blend would be warm. I don't think chinos would be warm at all. I'm also a bit stuck for winter wear as I slowly phase jeans out of my wardrobe...might be better to embrace dress/tights combo?
