Seeing as I missed out on the Harrods AC, I decided to take advantage of people selling off their unwanted products on eBay & Vinted for a couple of the items I really wanted.
If I do manage to get the AC at a later date, I’ll just sell a few bits out of it to recoup my money for the extras.
I have the Space NK as well. So I’m happy with my lot for now

I'm feeling envious about the Bloomingdales calendar. If a UK based calendar had the the same contents, would be straight in my basket.

Looks great but not available for international shipping, sadly.

AllTheDucks · 21/09/2024 13:56

I would definitely buy the Bloomingdales calendar - annoying it's US only.

AprilLady · 21/09/2024 14:25

The Bloomingdale one is a nice selection of products, but almost all travel/sample sized, so I actually don’t feel that we are missing out that much.

I agree, the biggest thing is the Diptyque candle (which I'd love) but then I looked and it's 35ish grams. Too small. And everything else is less!

Value is less than 3 x the cost too, which is rarely the case for UK calendars. I'm going to NYC in December so I'll maybe pop into Bloomingdale's and see if there are any left! There's sometimes a Saks calendar too, isn't there?

Choux · 21/09/2024 15:09

Hi - can anyone give me some pointers on which advent calendars to check out please. I could get one in the UK or the US. In the past I have had M&S and l'occitane and also made my own one year with a few sampler sets bought online, some fragrance samples I had and some products I had from my previous advent calendars (guess what - I still didn't use them second time around!). One year I then decided not to bother with an advent calendar and just bought myself 2 products that were a bit of a luxury but that I knew I would love.

I am willing to splurge if the calendar is good value and has things I will enjoy trying. My advent calendar loves are:
Skin products - I love a serum or an oil as well as moisturizers. Face masks are ok but I do have a backlog from previous years.
Fragrance - obv I might still dislike it but I like trying them
Neutral makeup
Candles

My advent calendar hates because I don't use them are:
Black eyeliners
Hair products including scrunchies
Sleep sprays / eye masks
Non neutral lipsticks or makeup / glittery or out there nail polishes
Fake tan
Beauty tools - no eyelash curlers thanks.

Anyone got any ideas?

Doubleraspberry · 21/09/2024 15:15

This isn’t meant as a brush off but because it’s probably better to look yourself - have you looked at one of the sites like https://beautyadventcalendar.net/a-z/#L as there are so many options! Sadly some of your hates are fairly unavoidable 😁

What's your budget?

For high end I'd go for selfridges, liberty or John Lewis. Space NK sold out now.

If you want to spend <£100 next or boots have some options. Or look fantastic if you don't mind mainly minis.

Has this one been mentioned? I'm struggling to keep up or even find one I actually want

@Choux @IDontHateRainbows Space NK is still available. I think it's the best this year. John Lewis and Liberty also worth a look. Candles are thin on the ground in calendars this year unfortunately. You might actually like Cult Beauty, there were too many duds for me but there are equally some very nice products in there.

Rituals has quite a few candles in their Premium calendar. @Choux might like that one. I don't think it has make up in it though. It's mostly all skincare, bath & shower and home fragrance products.

I've just had this email too! Don't think it's been mentioned on the thread yet.

Is that Next? If so, I think people have said it looks decent/pre-ordered.

My Papier calendar has arrived and is a thing of total beauty.

Next calendar is ok, not sure whether it represents as good value for money as some of the more expensive ones eg Space NK but there were quite a few products I wanted. But I'm finding it hard to sell the ones I don't want to make my money back so not sure if I'll break even on it - not a massive problem as this is all a bit of a game to me, a beauty addicts version of gambling in many ways - and of course anything I don't sell I will put in my personal stash.

No it's not next, it's from justmylook. I ordered a bottle of perfume earlier this year because they had a great gwp and the perfume was heavily discounted. I think that's how I got this email

I really do not need the Papier calendar but I'm so tempted.

Choux · 21/09/2024 18:24

Amazing 'brush off' @Doubleraspberry. I had no idea there was a website of all of the calendars. Or that there were so many different calendars out there!

I used it to look at the ones @IDontHateRainbows suggested selfridges, liberty John Lewis and Space NK and I liked Liberty the best. I quickly read through the contents and totted up how many items made me roll my eyes. Only 5 of Liberty's did. Wasn't entirely sure of some of the lip product colours - I would love a Byredo lipstick but they are so red I couldn't even mix it with something else. But Liberty does have two candles and some fragrances and some full size products I'd like to try which together cover the cost of buying it so anything else I like is a bonus.

Thanks for helping me. I'll do a bit of browsing and see if anything beats the Liberty one for me.

AllTheDucks · 21/09/2024 18:25

Happier about the Bloomingdales calendar, in that case!

I'm still torn between three - Harvey Nicks, John Lewis and Selfridges.

Each has two things I hate in it, so i can't narrow it down...

Just my look is bringing out a calendar. Mostly skin care. I use it for K-beauty.

Doubleraspberry · 21/09/2024 18:28

Glad to help, @Choux! It’s quite a compelling website, isn’t it?

@Cyclingmummy1 it’s been a while since I was so impressed with an advent calendar. I have felt really disappointed with some of the luxury beauty calendars I’ve had in recent years in colour scheme and format.

TriciaMcMillan · 21/09/2024 18:28

Just wanted to flag, a few people have mentioned the Revolve AC.

It looks like you can use their 15% off discount code if it's your first app purchase either on Apple (IPAD15 or IPHONE15) or Android (ANDROID15).

This brings it down to £116.45 which seems pretty reasonable if you're not looking to spend top dollar but still want the feel of a luxury calendar.

Fedupandstressed · 21/09/2024 18:31

Oh and just found out whilst getting my brows done that the Boots advents are in the 2for3 this year. She tested it out on the till, which is a bummer as I'd 've got all 3, if I hadn't already got the premium one.
