Ten, even five years ago Boden sold beautiful tweed jackets and skirts made from pure British wool milled in Yorkshire.

In 2024, to celebrate their British heritage, we have been treated to these garish, made in China horrors…

I can only assume Johnny Boden has recently watched The Producers and is trying to get rich by producing a business-ending flop.

That’s all.

They look like leftovers from a London 2012 merch bargain bucket.

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 03/09/2024 23:01

The little girl's dress is really sweet, I think .

GingerScallop · 03/09/2024 23:03

You may be missing the point Op. perhaps their target market is the rioters? Quite a few of them might need to dress up for court appearances

I don’t know why people on this thread are getting so hot under the collar. Everything worn in the right way, combined with the right things, by a person it flatters is fine. You just need some imagination to make it work.

I have a feeling it must be that this is a political thread rather than a style and beauty one.

Think you're right. I like a Boden-bashing / nostalgia thread, but if it's gonna be people "spitting out their tea" at tedious political jibes and umpteen iterations of the same jibe, I'm out.

I think the blazer is ugly as anything. I had a browse through the "new in" section after clicking through the link, and as always, I'm really sad about Boden. I miss how they were 15 years or so ago when I first found my way onto their mailing list. At the time, I mainly shopped in charity shops and supermarkets. I didn't know I wanted nicer clothes till then. Couldn't really afford it, but used some Christmas money on a cord trench and a couple of tops and just fell in love.

It was sort of special to me then. Now it all just looks so cheap (but it's not) and generic. Pity.

This is Boden. Safe workwear choices for the middle aged and middle class. It’s an imagination free zone. But regardless, I’d love to see the person who could make this lot look good.

BrightGreenTomatoes · 03/09/2024 23:28

I like the shoes 😳(one vote in favour)!

Amybelle88 · 03/09/2024 23:29

The kitten heels 💀

blueshoes · 03/09/2024 23:32

I wish Boden would do more stuff in solid colours. There are too many prints these days.

GU24Mum · 03/09/2024 23:38

They're doing what other have done (and bowed out with): they produce a reasonably tame range of solid things for their market then decide to jazz it up for a new crowd. That crowd doesn't really go for it all that much - and they then alienate their main market .....

jazzybelle · 04/09/2024 00:11

I received a Boden catalogue today and wondered who the hell buys this stuff? Apart from the stuff mentioned on this thread, has anyone seen the Hamilton jacket?

www.boden.co.uk/en-gb/hamilton-tipped-coat-tipped-navy/sty-u0273-nav

It's probably not as bad as some other clothes mentioned here but as it's clearly a military style. It's likely named after the musical. So, what next a black cloak named Phantom?

IncessantNameChanger · 04/09/2024 00:23

GoldenCactus · 03/09/2024 19:54

Now I quite like those but I would not look leggy and interesting like the model. I would look like a massive Christmas turkey had escaped the oven and was roaming the streets, looking for a bit more Bacofoil to cover its modesty.

🤣🤣🤣

IncessantNameChanger · 04/09/2024 00:27

Some of kids stuff looks like it's going back to their roots.

spaceshooter · 04/09/2024 00:42

That's a piss take from them with that shite material.

I quite like the third dress but 160 quid for polyester, don't think so.

BestZebbie · 04/09/2024 00:59

The jumper reminds me of the 2012 London Olympics merchandise - we have a mug that is very similar but slightly more in a teal/light blue palette.

Saschka · 04/09/2024 01:29

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 03/09/2024 18:18

fuck me

the union jacket is for those who want to dress as a 1980s game show host opening a regional shopping centre.

it's good to know where to source clothes for that look

Reminded me of this guy honestly.

Bet Boden have got that dress as well.

Gunnersforthecup · 04/09/2024 06:38

80th anniversary of the end of wwii next year. There will be street parties and all the union jack stuff will sell, even if some goes into clearance.

Misthios · 04/09/2024 09:48

Probably totally outing but I am involved in talking to a (mainly) American and Canadian audience about Scotland - history, culture, tracing your roots here etc etc. I would totally buy this dress and wear it for work - very on brand!

https://www.boden.co.uk/en-gb/alba-check-maxi-dress-red-and-blue-check/sty-d1097-red?cat=C1_S2_G4

Expensive though - I have a BNWT one from the Pretty Dress Company (black watch tartan) which cost me £25 on Vinted.

EndofDaze · 04/09/2024 10:44

Not RTFT but on the plus side they have got Richmond 7/8 trousers back in their collection.

theworldie · 04/09/2024 10:49

Oh dear. Who bc actually buys Boden nowadays?

I do admit to perusing the website occasionally for a laugh (although my favourite rib-tickler is the Joe Brown catalogue)

KreedKafer · 04/09/2024 11:41

I generally really dislike flag motifs of any kind on clothes. Not just the Union flag - any flag.

Obviously if it's something like a vintage national team sports top or something, that's different, but random flags on T-shirts or made into jackets or whatever is always a no. Geri Halliwell has a lot to answer for.

That explains it. The Boden-faithful are freaking out at the need to apply artistic imagination and creative courage when dressing. Safe, dull and inconspicuous only please.

Season 4 Joey GIF by Friends

It’s designed for female Joey Tribbiani.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 04/09/2024 12:14

That jacket is to promote the Oasis reunion.

Noel and Liam will be rocking it.

Efrogwraig · 04/09/2024 13:32

Grim. I'm also assuming they don't want Scottish or Welsh customers?
