Ten, even five years ago Boden sold beautiful tweed jackets and skirts made from pure British wool milled in Yorkshire.

In 2024, to celebrate their British heritage, we have been treated to these garish, made in China horrors…

I can only assume Johnny Boden has recently watched The Producers and is trying to get rich by producing a business-ending flop.

That’s all.

I apologise. The jacket is 100% cotton, the lining is polyester.

Ditsycamper · 03/09/2024 19:18

I am just relieved to see that it wasn't the dress I bought today from Boden 😂

Itsbaloney · 03/09/2024 19:49

What about these plastic fantastic beauties?

Now I quite like those but I would not look leggy and interesting like the model. I would look like a massive Christmas turkey had escaped the oven and was roaming the streets, looking for a bit more Bacofoil to cover its modesty.

Thanks for your responses. You’ve made me, if not JB smile this evening (after a bit of a crappy day.)

I like the dress in its red colourway but not the garish multi checked thing

Yup, I did like the style of the dress but not all the multicoloured shizz.

That jacket tho..... Looked like some cheap tatt you'd find on Amazon. Where would you even wear it? I can only think of big sporting events like world cups or Olympics (complete with union jack facepaint!LOL).

GeorgeOrwellsTurningGrave · 03/09/2024 20:02

My eyes! MY. EYES!

Can never unsee...

LoobyDoop2 · 03/09/2024 20:02

The jacket looks like something they would have worn on a trading floor in the 80s. Why would anyone want to recreate that?

Fargo79 · 03/09/2024 20:03

I used to buy everything for my kids from Boden but they lost their way years ago. It's now just cheaply made awful tat from China, India etc sold at premium prices. And they need to seriously get real about what teens and tweens want to wear.

CuttySarcasm · 03/09/2024 20:04

Boden has really gone down hill, I’m so sad as I used to love it!

Firenzeflower · 03/09/2024 20:05

I’ll wear that to my next Farage Riot.

Garlictest · 03/09/2024 20:06

But wouldn't this make a DIVINE outfit?
The multi-plaid dress, with
The Union Jacket, accessorised with
The tartan shoes,
The Union socks and
The Union shopping tote.

(I'm probably thinking of Divine the 1980s personality, designer and performer.)

PalmRotal · 03/09/2024 20:07

I heard a rumour that it is very popular in China - actually that might be Sea Salt. If the UK isn’t the target market then it makes more sense.

AlwaysKindaKnewYoudBeTheDeathOfMe · 03/09/2024 20:07

Who in Christ would wear any of those items?

Madcats · 03/09/2024 20:12

The catalogue I had through a month or so ago didn't look too bad. I thought the new CEO(?) had decided the company needed to get back to basics. What were the designers thinking (unless it was for a pop up shop in Paris for the (para)lympics!)

I have to say that my DD(17) seems to be buying a lot of stuff from a couple of decades ago on Vinted. I hadn't really twigged how "cheap" fabrics and garments had become in the chainstores.

CeruleanBelt · 03/09/2024 20:13

Boden clothes are ugly though. No idea why it's so beloved on Mumsnet.

LoobyDoop2 · 03/09/2024 20:26

I’ve just had a scroll through the new stuff on the website, and the rule seems to be that if you ignore anything that involves more than one colour, it’s fine. But whoever is picking their prints should be dragged out, they’re just awful. Some of it reminds me of outfits my Clothkits doll used to have in the 70s.

buntyreturns · 03/09/2024 20:31

I saw the Union Jack blazer and was considering starting a similar thread! 🤢

Christ! I hadn't shopped in Boden for ages and thought I'd have a quick browse. Exited quickly after seeing a few similarly garish options. Some of the jumpers, for example, looked like they should have been in the mini Boden section, with all the embellishments.

LoobyDoop2 · 03/09/2024 20:32

And as if matching trousers and shoes is a thing?! Who the fuck would do that?!

CoffeeAndStripedtops · 03/09/2024 20:32

I actually like the shoes and can see myself wearing them with a simple little black dress to a company Christmas party.
Also like the trainers and the bag (worn separately). Then again, I live in Europe and miss London, so that could be a factor.

LoneHydrangea · 03/09/2024 20:33

Horrific!

ChanelBoucle · 03/09/2024 20:35

Utterly hideous.

LondonFox · 03/09/2024 20:37

GoldenCactus · 03/09/2024 18:44

I don't want to look like a Mini Cooper.

Ahahah I woke up my child over this comment!

Tbh it looks like designers breakdown of some sort

whovotestory · 03/09/2024 20:41

It's all a bit '2016 Brexit referendum'. Which just about sums up how far behind trends Boden has become
