What's wrong with side strioe trousers?!

Isometimeswonder · 28/08/2024 21:15

Just seen on another thread that trousers with side stripes are no longer OK?!
Why?!
(Although I will still wear my Next ones, as they're new. And I like them!)
Nb... this is semi lightheaded, but still a real question.

They are awful! They look like trackies trying to look smart.

Spomb · 29/08/2024 10:31

I have never liked them, but they were on fashion a while back. They’re not in fashion now though if that’s important to you.

ilovesushi · 29/08/2024 11:03

Op I was wondering the same thing too! I remember seeing Jennifer Aniston wear a pair once in Friends and I loved them, but couldn't find any at the time (1990s) in the shops. I don't have any but I always think they look great if I see anyone in a pair. Maybe it's an agism thing that people are holding against them.

bergamotorange · 29/08/2024 06:34

If you like them, carry on wearing them.

Just seen on another thread that trousers with side stripes are no longer OK?! Being influenced in this way is nonsense. They're your legs.

I literally posted that I would wear mine still.
I am not looking for permission.

Seen them in shops but never 'in the wild'....maybe its a regional fashion if people seeing them out and about!

Have never appealed to me as I dont really do the smart/casual, athleisure look. Im either smart or full on casual, When I try to wear more dressy casual clothes I just look proper middle aged!LOL

Astrabees · 29/08/2024 14:04

The have them in our local Sainsbury’s in a deeply unfashionable small country town. This for me is a message their moment has passed.

Quite, no one needs permission to wear what they want.

Scenty · 29/08/2024 14:37

I wore mine today off the back of this thread 😁

HeadNorth · 29/08/2024 14:45

I bought a pair when they first came out - DH said I looked like I was in a military band. I never felt the same in them after that Grin

KirstenBlest · 29/08/2024 14:48

There's a pair in my charity shop bag. They are the ones DGS has grown out of.
From Next and size 3 yrs. They looked great on him.

KirstenBlest · 29/08/2024 14:54

I'm tempted to try Sainsbury's for some.Buy Grey Side Stripe Wide Leg Ponte Trousers 10L | Trousers | Tu (sainsburys.co.uk)

They'd be great for WFH.

Burgundy Side Stripe Ponte Wide Leg Trousers | Women | George at ASDA

I think that it's an 'I've given up look' - and the model is young, tall, slim and pretty.

Sandwichgen · 29/08/2024 15:34

I loe mine and would be very sad to give them up.

StMarieforme · 29/08/2024 15:54

They just look like sports trousers to me. Not smart at all.

Do you not know what "trousers with a side stripe" look like?

@Chillimuma I thought this thread was going to be anti adidas...if that makes you feel better !

PrincessHoneysuckle · 29/08/2024 16:36

Remind me of fake Adidas

Love the multiple suggestions that older people render clothes unstylish 😏

Not only 'old' but a MIL to boot 🙄😉

queenMab99 · 29/08/2024 18:55

I am elderly, 73, and wouldn't be seen dead in a pair, they have the same vibe to me as shell suits, which I loathed when they were in fashion. There are some items of clothing which make me shudder, shell suits, trousers with stripes down the side, tops with holes cut in unnatural places, like shoulders, hot pants, they can all get to hell! In fact there are more things on the list, but you will think I am weird if I elaborate.🤐 (ostentatious zips too)

StormingNorman · 29/08/2024 18:57

I didn’t know this. Someone should let Adidas know 😬

Oh, I love the look of those! I have several pairs of side stripe trousers. I love them. They are still selling them in lots of shops.

Agree.
I’m 60. I’ve been obsessed with clothes my whole life, I haven’t suddenly morphed into someone who couldn’t care less about clothing . I have a friend and a Mil who are both almost 30 years older than me and always look great. Friend looked fab in her Margaret Howell monkey boots last time I saw her. Gorgeous clothes aren’t exclusively for the under forties.

KirstenBlest · 29/08/2024 20:08

I have those boots but the Solovair ones not the collab versions. Toast used to have them but the ones I have have the traditional monkey boots stitching. I love mine.

lazyarse123 · 29/08/2024 20:25

Nothing wrong with them if you play in a matching band.

TwigletsAndRadishes · 29/08/2024 22:17

I've got a pair of side stripe culottes/three quarter length trousers that I thought were lovely when I bought them in the sale 2 years ago. I've not worn them once. Every time I put them on I feel strange, like I am about to leave the house in a pair of men's pyjamas or a child's dressing up outfit. And no matter what top I wear with them, they always look wrong with it.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 29/08/2024 23:56

I've just watched 'Who do you think you are' with Mel C and she had a pair of trousers with a side stripe and they looked great. They reminded me that I haven't worn mine for a while and I can dig the out to wear this autumn.

Utter nonsense that they're for 'old people'.
If you like them OP, wear them!
