What's wrong with side strioe trousers?!

Just seen on another thread that trousers with side stripes are no longer OK?!
Why?!
(Although I will still wear my Next ones, as they're new. And I like them!)
Nb... this is semi lightheaded, but still a real question.

I bought a pair when they first came out - DH said I looked like I was in a military band. I never felt the same in them after that Grin

Same. I’m petite - DH said I looked like a toy soldier 🤣☺️.

Also i tried those trousers on and they are truly minging. So unflattering.

I can believe it. It’s a shame, they seem to have messed with them. Even though I can’t make them work for me, the ones I bought 3 or so years ago are a lovely thick, heavy jersey, with proper drape. The ribbon detail is more subtle and carefully done. They were wider and much longer than these. I wouldn’t even call these wide legs (although I’m a 90s skater girl, nothing’s wide enough for me) and look very much like cheap jogger material. The ones I have are definitely casual trousers not smart jogging bottoms.

Love the multiple suggestions that older people render clothes unstylish 😏

😂 Classic Mumsnet innit.

Anyone over 40 is absolutely decrepit stomping along in their side stripe comfy ass trousers with elasticated waist.
( I don’t own any) but am over 40.

Someone should compile a list of shops suitable for the over-50s, and recommend a capsule wardrobe.
They could add suggested hairstyles (pixie or bob, obviously)
and what colours might suit (purple or beige mainly)

Not even in jest, @KirstenBlest!

Have a care for my blood pressure. Grin

@IWantedThereThereButItsGone , I love clothes, am over 50, like comfortable clothes etc, and have no issue with mixing clothes from various shops, but I despair at the ageism on here.

I feel I need the side-stripe trousers just so I can wear them with aplomb to show my defiance.

Teawaster · 31/08/2024 15:40

If you have a decent sense of of style and know what suits you, you will have it at any age and if you are someone who only wears what the current trend is, has no clue whether it suits you or not and wouldn't wear something once it's no longer a top trend, then you probably won't ever have a sense of style and will always look the same as thousands more walking down the same street.

Me too. If it makes you feel any better, I’ve got loads of ‘thanks’ on my comment about it at the beginning if the thread. Not that I’d normally mention that, but there’s obviously a lot of us rolling our eyes at it.

Especially given that the yoof are wearing 'up the bum' leggings under nike sports socks pulled up to mid calf topped off with cropped Dickies sweatshirts. 🙈

KirstenBlest · 01/09/2024 10:01

That's what I wear around the house apart from the up-the-bum leggings.

FeelingSoOverwhelmed · 02/09/2024 19:18

I have a black pair with a red/white side stripe from M&S and I still like them. I quite like wearing them with trainers and my Adidas leopard print sweatshirt on a casual weekend day, but I also wear them to work with plain slouchy jumpers (often black) and white trainers or a pair of dm shoes. I wouldn't say it's the most fashion forward outfit but comfy and easy when I'm on my feet all day.
