What colour fascinator, shoes & bag with this dress?

Am going to a wedding in a few weeks and have just bought this dress. It's a very dark teal. Not sure what colour to put with it? I'm early 50s and grey haired. Was thinking maybe gold shoes and bag and a gold/teal fascinator? Any thoughts would be great!

😂get me, being awful with my coral accessories

Apologies to the OP if I neglected key parameters

Nonetheless, coral with teal is a hill I'm content to die on

Good for you! I'm right there with you.

This is meant to be style and beauty. What’s the point in rehashing the same old advice for decades? Style changes. Fashion changes. If you don’t see either or look for it, it’s difficult to advise. Lots of hats perch! Big hats are generally avoided now as they get in the way. Neater hats and now boaters are very stylish right now. Not necessarily in 5 years time or even 2 years time. Colour blocking is stylish now.

I like a patterned dress with colour picked out by the hat. However op has the dress so go follow the trend based on that. I don’t see the point of having a style forum where the advice is 30 years out of date. You will be dying your wedding dresses next and wearing them!

I wear what I like. I have my own style. I might wear a 1940's vintage dress with trainers. I might dye my simple wedding dress and wear that with trainers. And a fascinator.

30 years out of date! Catch yourself on and have some imagination.

The OP asked about fascinators, which presumably means she fancies wearing one. She is not going to New York Fashion Week.

Coral? Where would you even find coral accessories in 2024? Unless you borrowed from Gloria Hunniford.

You can find anything in any colour. We have t'internet now.

Fascinators...the word means attract, entice, alluring, inviting. Does this apply to anyone over 20?

Er, yes it bloody does!

Don’t wear one they are so aging. I was at a wedding recently and they just look so dated

💯 agree!

EmmyPankhurst · 12/08/2024 00:18

Just been to a wedding. My first for several years as I'm mid forties and the divorces/ second marriages haven't yet started in earnest. I love hats/ fascinators etc but didn't wear one.

Just as well. There were none in evidence at all.

A couple of people had jewelled hair clips in but that was about it.

Church wedding. Central london venue. Guests mostly established professionals.

SussexLass87 · 12/08/2024 08:43

Beautiful dress OP! I work in the wedding industry and agree, hardly anyone wears fascinators now.

There's a few hairbands here and there, but mostly no one wears anything on their head.

SadOrWickedFairy · 12/08/2024 09:05

Those headbands, to quote a previous poster, look gopping and will scream fashion victim in a couple of years when looking back at the photos.

Why wouldn’t it

I would say quite the opposite. A fashion victim is someone who follows the latest trend no matter what, even if it doesn't suit them.

BlueSkies1981 · 12/08/2024 18:31

I agree! People don’t always think… I say wear what you like and feel comfortable in 😊

Exactly what I was saying the headbands are apparently the latest 'in' thing, on trend hence posters telling the OP to wear one irrespective of whether or not it would suit her but because it's now fashionable therefore making her into a fashion victim.

I’m pretty sure that this advice is a bit daft on the Style and Beauty board, where most questions come from people who want to know what’s current or fashionable or stylish.

🥴

But it’s also very subjective! There are some current trends that are awful in my humble opinion x

💯 but if we all said to every post, ‘wear whatever you feel comfortable in’ instead of an actual opinion or advice about trends, it would be completely futile.

TizerorFizz · 12/08/2024 20:43

@BlueSkies1981 In your opinion. Not necessarily that of others.

The best guide is to look at what fashionable people wear to fashionable events. It’s actually not difficult. See who wears what in about your age range. Look at shape and see if you can replicate the look. Looking at something in fashion 30 years ago is pointless really.

Of course not everyone suits a headband. However bits of feather floating about are not a great look either. If a wedding is a smart wedding, look at hat styles from Ascot. If it’s not, have a decent hair do.
