What colour fascinator, shoes & bag with this dress?

Am going to a wedding in a few weeks and have just bought this dress. It's a very dark teal. Not sure what colour to put with it? I'm early 50s and grey haired. Was thinking maybe gold shoes and bag and a gold/teal fascinator? Any thoughts would be great!

That dress is gorgeous and very classy.

I'd wear a metallic with it, whichever one suits you. Maybe a headband thing if they want people in hats.

Because, my love, it is Marks & Sparks. And while they have certainly upped their game to attract young buyers, their core customer is still above 40.

Dear God. ‘My love’.

For what it’s worth, OP, wear a fascinator by all means, but they are dated. Even if you are in the correct ‘age group’. As I am.

Phase Eight has fascinators, headbands, and hats. People should wear what they like. "Dated" my arse. My love.

Accessorise as the model has and maybe instead of a fascinator, wear big / long earrings

Pillowfights · 10/08/2024 19:56

This is the 2nd thread in a week saying fascinators are old hat/dated

Which is a bugger as I'm MOG in a few weeks and wearing one! I'm wearing a red wide legged jumpsuit and look ridiculous in an alice band type thing and couldn't find a hat that looked right with the shape of the outfit!

If you do a search on here, you’ll find 100.

I don’t think anyone thinks they’re remotely fashionable but if you don’t mind, and you lie it, it doesn’t matter.

Ffs. Saying fascinators are hideous and dated is not being nasty. The joy, and value, of S&B threads is that people are honest. If you bought your Amazon fascinator and tried it on to show your friends, they’d all be polite but certainly untruthful.

Asking for opinions from strangers that don’t know you means you get honest opinions. If you think that’s nasty, it really isn’t.

It is nasty to say that something OP fancies wearing is "hideous and dated". Also, it's not true that fascinators are "dated" and considered hideous by everyone.
It may be that people who really like to follow fashion would not wear a fascinator but lots of people still really like them, have no idea that a certain demographic considers them "dated", and don't care anyway.
Finally, how on earth do you know what OP's friends would think or say?

A red wide legged jumpsuit with a fascinator sounds gorgeous to me! the shops are full of fascinators, hats, and bands. Wear what you like, mate!

BatsInSpring · 10/08/2024 20:55

Blush pink shoes and a gold bag? Or the other way round?
I agree, no fascinator.
Maybe some plaiting in your hair if you want something extra or a flower.

Butteredtoast55 · 10/08/2024 21:03

I was at a wedding two weeks ago and many of the guests wore fascinators, mostly the younger guests. There were a couple of lovely hats too.
Last wedding before that was extremely chic and there were a handful of fascinators on display there so ignore anybody saying nobody wears them. I think the chunky hairbands will date really quickly and will do nothing to add to the gorgeous dress you've chosen.
Colour wise, I think blush pink or a metallic would look lovely with that colour and suit your colouring.

Demonhunter · 10/08/2024 21:09

Just ignore people, if you want a fascinator, wear a fascinator. I love a pillbox hat but many people mock them and I couldn't give two hoots because I like them!

Poggishairtufts · 10/08/2024 21:39

Eugh no to a fascinator, awful. Some really striking gold jewellery would look fab.

Mumofoneandone · 10/08/2024 21:55

I would go for silver, pink or greeny accessories! Depending on how dramatic you want to be!

Heronwatcher · 10/08/2024 22:00

Beautiful dress! I agree with cerise or fuscia.

If you love a fascinator wear one, but I’d agree they have had their moment. You don’t want to be giving Beatrice/ Eugenie royal wedding vibes (to be fair both dress really well now)

Heronwatcher · 10/08/2024 22:02

This is what you’re not aiming for!!

What colour fascinator, shoes & bag with this dress?

It is a nice dress, but I could not wear 100% polyester as I would stink after a few hours.

More passive aggression towards OP- ie polyester isn't de rigeur. OP clearly doesn't stink in it, or she wouldn't wear it. We don't all stink. It's not about you.

OP, you will look beautiful in the dress with metallics/ pink/ whatever.

NonsuchCastle · 10/08/2024 23:03

KerChingo · 10/08/2024 17:35

Pink, bright

Agree. A bright contrast to the darker, chic dress.

TizerorFizz · 11/08/2024 00:01

One thing you do notice if you go somewhere really smart is colour matching. So many smart people don’t wear contrasting colours. If I’m being really picky, I’d say don’t go bright contrast. An emerald would be way better. Maybe different areas of the country dress differently but look at Ascot. Look at Zara Philips. Totally upped her fashion game. West good jewellery but not bright pink. Gold is very cruise ship look for mature women.

Xyz1234567 · 11/08/2024 00:33

I love the dress and immediately thought a bright pink too.
Wear whatever you feel happy in and sod all the sneery, mean comments - and what the hell is the current herd mentality for attacking polyester fgs. I can't say I've ever noticed myself reeking horrifically. Perhaps you should wash more thoroughly.

Oblomov24 · 11/08/2024 00:52

Loads of people wear fascinations and hats, at weddings, ascot races, all sorts.

What colour fascinator, shoes & bag with this dress?
IfOnlyOurEyesSawSouls · 11/08/2024 01:25

Some of you must live in a cave.

Stylish women do still very much wear fascinators and they look fabulous!

IfOnlyOurEyesSawSouls · 11/08/2024 01:27

Some of the hairbands people are putting on look like school girl wear

DTisawazzock · 11/08/2024 05:23

Gorgeous dress. Nothing on head.

TizerorFizz · 11/08/2024 06:16

@Oblomov24 I think that’s Charlotte Hawkins and she’s got amazing taste. Look at the matching colours - as I was saying! Plus that’s not a facinator. At Royal Ascot, in the Royal Enclosure, there must be a 3in crown on a “hat”. These are now called “hatinators”. Nearly everyone wears these now and they are vastly different from the Amazon fascinator attached earlier. They might be attached to a band but have more substance than a fascinator. However if it’s not a very fashionable wedding, you don’t need a hat. Just a classy hairdo.
