What colour fascinator, shoes & bag with this dress?

Am going to a wedding in a few weeks and have just bought this dress. It's a very dark teal. Not sure what colour to put with it? I'm early 50s and grey haired. Was thinking maybe gold shoes and bag and a gold/teal fascinator? Any thoughts would be great!

It may or may not matter to you OP, but fascinators are terribly dated.

We went to a very swish wedding last month. Lots and lots of gorgeous posh gal guests in their 20s. So I had a good chance to peruse the fashion.

Apart from a couple that wore headbands, they were all bare-headed (and it was in a cathedral chapel so not a casual do). A few had jewelled clips in their hair. The only (ghastly) fascinators I saw were on 2 (not stylish) women in their 50s or 60s. And I saw a couple of actual hats in this age group too.

Pink, bright

LivelyBlake · 10/08/2024 17:37

Fascinators are definitely dated but this hairband could look really nice, if it suits your hairstyle: https://camillaelphick.com/collections/headbands/products/esme-raffia-headband.

Maybe with a raffia clutch with gold details, and gold shoes? https://www.next.co.uk/style/SU222056/642229#642229?utmsource=google&utmmedium=organic&utmcampaign=organicshopping

Thanks @Garman - what sort of fascinators do people wear now?

Edited

You don't need one, they're so dated.

sidsgranny · 10/08/2024 18:42

Thanks for all your comments, they've been really useful.

@ActualChips and @LoneHydrangea your comments are a bit nasty but I take them on board. I was asking for advice for a reason but glad I gave you a good laugh.

Ffs. Saying fascinators are hideous and dated is not being nasty. The joy, and value, of S&B threads is that people are honest. If you bought your Amazon fascinator and tried it on to show your friends, they’d all be polite but certainly untruthful.

Asking for opinions from strangers that don’t know you means you get honest opinions. If you think that’s nasty, it really isn’t.

TwoHoots74 · 10/08/2024 19:09

Cerise pink would look amazing

People DO wear fascinators like that now. Plus, you should wear what you like - never mind what other people wear. I had a look at M&S fascinators, which are aimed at your age-group. Lots of nice things there.

It looks lovely. As do you. I think maybe gold or silver or at least something metallic.

ladygindiva · 10/08/2024 19:16

Mustard/ yellow / gold would work. Nice dress !

LadyMacbethWasMisunderstood · 10/08/2024 19:24

It’s a really lovely dress. I agree gold or silver accessories (to match what jewellery you prefer). I also think pink (bright or blush) would look good. As would orange if it suits you. I tend to agree that fascinators have had their day. But I am sure some people will wear them. I’d probably go a bit more upscale that the Amazon one as the dress is so elegant you don’t want to cheapen the look of it. I’m similar age to you. Probably would not go for a head band myself. If you want a head piece maybe a pillbox hat?

JG24 · 10/08/2024 19:32

You've got beautiful taste, that dress is lovely and elegant. I'm desperately trying to think of an occasion where I can wear it so I can buy it

LoneHydrangea · 10/08/2024 19:34

It is a nice dress, but I could not wear 100% polyester as I would stink after a few hours.

OneFrenchEgg · 10/08/2024 19:37

I see a pp has suggested orange and I came to say burnt orange would be brilliant - do you need head wear? Earrings /bag/ shoes etc ?

OneFrenchEgg · 10/08/2024 19:39

Maybe this type of thing?

The dress is great and so is the way they've styled it.

If you add a fascinator you're going to ruin it. They're naff as hell and very ageing (and I'm 57).

Babycatsarenice · 10/08/2024 19:44

It's a really nice dress I would pair cream with it

How do you know which ‘age group’ these are aimed at?

TheYearOfSmallThings · 10/08/2024 19:46

KeyboardMash · 10/08/2024 17:18

We were at a wedding two weeks ago and I'd say roughly half the women has on fascinators. Mix of styles. I don't really like that Amazon one myself, but it absolutely wouldn't have looked out of place - and if it's "dated" so were a good chunk of the guests!

Yes, we saw a very stylish wedding group today by the river in Richmond and many of the women were wearing fascinators.

I wouldn't bother myself because I'm not a fan, but it is untrue to say nobody wears them.

Because, my love, it is Marks & Sparks. And while they have certainly upped their game to attract young buyers, their core customer is still above 40.

It’s nice but £39? I think fascinators look far better than headbands, and many are still wearing them
