What colour fascinator, shoes & bag with this dress?

Am going to a wedding in a few weeks and have just bought this dress. It's a very dark teal. Not sure what colour to put with it? I'm early 50s and grey haired. Was thinking maybe gold shoes and bag and a gold/teal fascinator? Any thoughts would be great!

And a gold hat is on trend with dark green? Dark pink? Not at all.

TizerorFizz · 11/08/2024 12:47

You can customize this one from Hostie Hats.

If being on trend matters to you, as someone upthread mentioned, colour blocking is fashionable and clashing or contrasting is not. It was a few seasons ago, but all one colour is trending now.

Scandiviews1 · 11/08/2024 12:57

I always understood that a hat should frame your face somehow or sort of be involved in it. So taking Philip Treacy as inspiration for the shape (maybe not this colour) I'd be looking for something like this picture perhaps. That's for my shape face though so you might suit something different obviously.

That's to balance out the skirt. I think a pill box might be too small.

I think overwhelming heavy looking hats are not worn so much now. The saucer hatinator is much cooler and easier to wear. The boosters are very popular. Gucci did THE boater a few years ago and it’s not diminished in popularity. Zara P looked amazing in one at Ascot.

goingdownfighting · 11/08/2024 13:05

If it's in a few weeks, then the dress might need summering up a bit.

A contemporary floral corsage in your hair or wrist might work.

There are some really pretty large floral drop earrings about that might work as well.

Saucer hats are old hat! 😉. At recent weddings Ive been to hats are back in a big way. I'm really pleased as I think they're the most flattering even with hat hair. Boaters are fine but they can age people as they don't frame your face but perch. But that's just what I think personally as I look terrible in a boater or saucer hat and good in a bigger hat! The OP might look fabulous in either.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 11/08/2024 16:32

Teal and Peach are lovely together.
Peach bag,
Peach fascinator.
Peach earrings. (small and Subtle) Not big dangly ones as I feel that would take the focus off your hair accessories.
Teal nails or silver to break it up more. Well that’s what I’d go for.

Well if it were me you'd have lost me with your "aimed at your age group" comment.

I think the Amazon/ M& S type fascinators aren't stylish- no matter what "age group" you're in

Fascinators which are more dramatic and are more like pill box hats or saucer hats, yes, or headbands , yes.

Why? What is wrong with being over 40? I merely meant that M&S is not full of ultra trendy stuff the kids wear. It's full of stuff that lots of people (like me and the OP) might like and feel good in.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and suggest coral. Surprisingly versatile, and it would be opposite teal on the colour wheel. Have a lovely event!

Oooh no, WhisperTree! Don't you know that contrasting colours are OUT? You can't suggest that to the OP - don't be awful!

No, it has to be a matching colour and NOT a fascinator otherwise everyone at the wedding will laugh at her, and anyone who sees her in the street too!
Coral?! You should be ashamed, WhisperTree.

TizerorFizz · 11/08/2024 19:04

This is meant to be style and beauty. What’s the point in rehashing the same old advice for decades? Style changes. Fashion changes. If you don’t see either or look for it, it’s difficult to advise. Lots of hats perch! Big hats are generally avoided now as they get in the way. Neater hats and now boaters are very stylish right now. Not necessarily in 5 years time or even 2 years time. Colour blocking is stylish now.

I like a patterned dress with colour picked out by the hat. However op has the dress so go follow the trend based on that. I don’t see the point of having a style forum where the advice is 30 years out of date. You will be dying your wedding dresses next and wearing them!

😂get me, being awful with my coral accessories

Apologies to the OP if I neglected key parameters

Nonetheless, coral with teal is a hill I'm content to die on

thinkfast · 11/08/2024 19:10

The dress is lovely. I'd go for gold or blush for the shoes and bag. Avoid a fascinator. They are awful.

DillDanding · 11/08/2024 19:23

Coral? Where would you even find coral accessories in 2024? Unless you borrowed from Gloria Hunniford.

TizerorFizz · 11/08/2024 19:28

I have a coral throw! And a very ancient coral cashmere wrap. Goes quite well with white jeans or linen.

TBH @DillDanding I did have to scour high and low to find coral accessories (Gloria was unavailable) to complement my (nicer than it sounds) batwing open cardigan, and that was in a time when bandeau dresses were, if not 'in,' then not exactly 'out' either...But I stand by my rec. Coral and teal.

I'm talking about the strong/bright/warm pinkish-orange. What's not to like? Its gorgeous for accenting. And as a block colour too.

Love coral. It's also a colour that suits pretty much everyone. Whenever I wear my favourite coral top people say how well I look 🤣

Hear, hear. This supposed ‘Style and Beauty’ board, is often anything but. Fascinators being a prime example.

Garman · 10/08/2024 14:22

Nobody really wears that style of fascinator anymore just fyi.

Went to a wedding yesterday, loads of guests wearing this kind of thing.

Also, if you like it, wear it!

Fascinators...the word means attract, entice, alluring, inviting. Does this apply to anyone over 20?
