Politics aside, but is this hideous and not best for her frame, or is it me?^^

Good point

I think this answers my question as to why she chose it

Also the umbrella - not to protect her husband in case of rain as ppl here suggesting but to protect herself obviously (and rightfully so)

Didn’t he say something about hoping his government had left Britain a fairer and more secure place ? Possibly the umbrella was to protect him as he was led off to a suitable place of rest and recuperation for the terminally deluded !!

pam290358 · 07/07/2024 19:46

I thought the most hideous outfit award went to Angela Rayner in that trouser suit. She looked as though she’d slept in it !!

Mercurysinretrograde · 07/07/2024 14:09

It’s nice enough and she probably had other things on her mind than looking like a fashion Barbie.

Ah yes, helping her husband to fill out his application for Jobseeker’s Allowance perhaps. Or phoning Sky to tell them they need to cancel their subscription as they’ve had a change of circumstances !!

Tbh, the overwhelming majority of dresses linked to on the board that posters are garnering an opinion on are more often than not pretty hideous, not to my taste, so it makes a lovely change to see a dress that is interesting, stylish and different to what most are wearing. It's modern, bold and photographs well.

The white shoes are great. White shoes ground the dress in a way any other colour, particularly a dark colour would not. White shoes are incredibly stylish (and usually my go-to shoe colour of choice. I can't recall the last time I wore dark footwear).

Am rather curious to know what OP thinks AS should have worn?

Of course I don’t expect people to agree with me or my taste but I had a look at the shop her dress is from and if I was in her position I’d have chosen this one below - if I had to choose from the same designer with no other options

For me personally, it would not have been a occasion where I would want to make a fashion statement or get too much attention on myself. And not be associated with the nation colours.

I’m with you OP, don’t like it at all. That pattern is just garish to me. But each to their own …

bunnybunnybunnybunny · 07/07/2024 20:04

For once, am pretty lost for words if you think what you have posted it a more suitable choice!

It's so matchy matchy, and so so drab, the shoes particularly. They're like bad copies of Prada shoes from the late 90s.

You have rather confirmed my thoughts about many on this board having zero little sense of style.

Edited to add that the colour of the dress would have done little for AS's colouring, so on that note alone, not good.

OMGitsnotgood · 07/07/2024 20:11

I'm not a Tory supporter, nor would I have the nerve to wear a dress like that, but my only criticism of the dress is that the neckline isn't very flattering. If she had it altered it would be a lovely dress.

Rosscameasdoody · 07/07/2024 20:11

I could have got on board with the dress if it hadn’t been for the chevrons down the front. Reminds me of road signs on sharp bends !!

Edited

obviously the shoes would not be exactly those ones but similar

for that occasion yes, I’d wear something uninspiring and neutral and boring if I gad to choose from that shop especifically

but given the money and choices, I’d choose something else but equally unremarkable and plain

I thought it was bloody awful - part circus tent, part Surrendered Wife.

Great that she supported an independent clothes company, but definitely not to my taste.

What’s all the nonsense about it being a vulnerable time? Her husband called an unexpected and doomed election and the totally predictable outcome occurred. She wasn’t ill or anything.

This thread quite literally proves how vulnerable she is to people criticising her appearance and body shape.

AnneShirleysNewDress · 07/07/2024 20:47

She doesn't have all the money in the world OP, just a big chunk of it 😉 I thought the dress looked good on her and I like the pattern.

LivelyBlake · 07/07/2024 22:20

The dress was amazing. Different and striking.

No one is criticising her appearance nor body shape. They are saying they liked or didn't like her frock, and that they thought or or didn't think it suited a petite woman with a small bust rather than a taller woman with a fuller bust.

Sadtosaythis · 07/07/2024 22:36

poshsnobtwit · 07/07/2024 10:05

My first thought was that it would look much better if she had a bit of a bust!

TemuSpecialBuy · 07/07/2024 10:27

💯 yes

i I can find about two outfits max where she is well dressed.

given she is thin and has alllll the money I don’t understand it.

@JurassicClark I could go on and on re-quoting but quite frankly it’s disheartening.

This brown dress is just grim, AM choice was lovely

Brown dress is indeed grim. Just goes to show it’s all subjective. I loved her dress and thought she looked great. Stylish and appropriate for the occasion.

sunflowrsngunpowdr · 08/07/2024 00:26

It's awful. Bad length for her and doesn't do her figure justice. Don't like the pattern either. More money than sense.

Yes, I get that you probably didn't mean that shoe exactly, more something similar. Even so, they're so dated. While you don't like what AS wore for a myriad of reasons, what you have suggested just isn't very modern/current or stylish.

While I also understand you chose what you considered to be the most suitable (in your opinion) dress from the same designer, and what you would wear, the whole demeanour of the dress has a 'sackcloth and ashes' air to it if I am being kind. Again, while you would choose something unremarkable and plain, something that doesn't stand out, it would not photograph well. At the very least, AS knows her image will be not only on every news bulletin, but splashed across the print and online news too.

AS is not making a fashion statement, she is merely having fun with clothing and wearing something she enjoys. I think this is where opinion differs on here, and that some - like AS - dress to enjoy themselves, not to court validation from others and/or to blend into the background.

That's a very handmaideny frock.

yeah, pretty much wrapping herself in the flag and obviously no agenda and sublimal messages intendend

If the flag colours were a must, I would choose this one - maybe a bit more discreet with the blue and red - and black shoes to match the black umbrella

I think white/blue/red are tricky colours together

This one is Temu but I’m sure she could get designed and made

OP you seem very invested in what you think she should have worn even to the point of copying another design and having it made for her!

She chose a dress she liked and wore it. Some of us loved the look, others didn’t. It really isn’t a big deal though.

I thought she looked lovely in that dress. The other ones you've posted OP look really drab.
But then I suppose that shows people have different senses of style. It fitted her really well so I would imagine she gets things tailored to fit.
