Politics aside, but is this hideous and not best for her frame, or is it me?^^

She looked stunning. It was Vicky Starmer who looked dowdy in her red dress but as usual white people like yo put white women on pedastal and criticise women of colour when they look better.

I’m brown, mixed race and immigrant

I agree and they look like such a happy family in those photos. Lovely to see.

Yes, they look like such a nice, happy family 😊

Cuppapuppa · 07/07/2024 15:19

My recomendation would be delicate patterns and shorter lenght because she is petite. That is all. If she wants stripes, then fine stripes. If she wants those colours than maybe a little more balance, or have it solid from the waist up or vice versa.

This is boring though and rather old fashioned.

Do you want my opinion? I think your styling suggestions are terrible and unimaginative. It's the limiting "wear what's flattering" mentality; which means don't try anything different, don't wear anything eye-catching, don't stand out.

Victoria Starmer's dress was pleasant and bland. Would have been a lot more stylish witout those silly angel/ fairy/ whatever they are called sleeves.

good for her I’m not her style advisor then!

because politics melt people’s brain

and it seems like by liking the dress you show patriotism or something just because some flag is the same colour

also to some people criticising fashion choices = criticising whoever is the wearer of said fashion

ugh

It's a shame, people don't get it. This is S&B and it's obvious what we're commenting on - and what we're not. Just rise above the unpleasant posts - most people are actually discussing style on here!

No I’m not

and that is ok - you can have your opinion as I can have mine

I can guarantee that mine has got nothing to do with politics though

Can you?

But your are not just giving your opinion, you're asking why anyone else would wear it. The answer to that is easy, that they like different things to you. You really do look stupid to ask.

lljkk · 07/07/2024 15:34

did not RTFT.
I don't know who she is.
Although I recognise No. 10
That isn't complimentary to that lady in OP's picture.
that gal does not look partic stylish in that picture

(now having read some of thread)
Still dont' know who she is, lol.
I follow politics intently but on radio, rarely see tv, don't know what many look like

And definitely not white shoes.

Seems like the fabric / price / production is good which tbh did not cross my mind when I posted since I didn’t look into it in details - just judged the visuals

This sounds as dull as some of the bits I see people recommend/fawn over on S&B.

The competitive blandness is mind-boggling.

Ahhh... is that Ms. Sunak.
Honestly, she has the money to dress how she likes. Why should she care what we think?
Her partner is the one in public eye, not herself. She doesn't have to impress any of us.

The opening post and title are unpleasant. OP could have put it neutrally "what's your thoughts on this dress?"

Instead she starts off judgementally as if no one would or should wear this dress. And as others have pointed out- it's a daft question anyway. OP's own styling tips are, in my opionion, terrible.

I think you have a point, although it is possible to get that it's S&B and discuss the style. I don't think it's ok to be personal or unpleasant even if you think the OP made a wrong judgement in her opening post. In all fairness, she has taken that criticism.

HappyKatieA · 07/07/2024 15:44

I love it! I think she has every right to wear what she wants, it's not up to me to judge, particularly another woman's choice of style.

Cuppapuppa · 07/07/2024 15:44

Exactly! Clearly you aren’t particularly stylish which is fine but you shouldn’t be incredulous that other people are.

berthaofcalcutta · 07/07/2024 15:44

The competitive blandness is only as annoying as the competitive raving over expensive dresses that would be called ugly by the same posters if they weren't from one of the same 5-7 approved retailers.

Cuppapuppa · 07/07/2024 15:45

😆

Betsylee · 07/07/2024 15:47

I think she looks lovely, she's a very attractive lady, she tends to wear clothes that are not too conforming and it suits her. She definitely has style in my opinion and would look good in anything really.

My thoughts exactly.

Verstappooo · 07/07/2024 15:53

I think she looks stunning actually. It’s a statement dress. 😊

Luio · 07/07/2024 15:58

I would look terrible in it but I thought she looked good. It was a dress that was saying something and I liked that. It was bold and wasn’t boring. Good for her.

RallySooney · 07/07/2024 16:07

Reminded me of a dress someone would have worn for a Jubilee party in 1976.

Coconutter24 · 07/07/2024 16:12

She obviously likes the dress, that’s all I can think off. The dress cost £395 (so I read) now I know there’s far more flattering and nicer dresses out there for less than that but she chose this dress because she likes it and surely that’s all that matters?
