Politics aside, but is this hideous and not best for her frame, or is it me?^^

The dress is totally dire IMHO. Can't think why she chose it. Colours and design are both simply dreadful.

I agree. It doesn't fit her or flatter her. She looks as though she's raided her mother's wardrobe. She's pretty, petite and presumably has a "nice" figure (ie slim and well-proportioned). That dress is just hideous.

But that's my taste. Maybe she really likes it.

Flatulence · 07/07/2024 12:26

I have no time for the Sunaks but I think she looked entirely appropriate for the occasion.

It might not be what I'd have chosen, and it might not be the most amazing dress for her petite frame but it's stylish, appropriate and most of all she likes it (I presume).

Let's stop bitching about women's entirely event-appropriate outfits just because we don't like it. It's tiresome.

It’s unusual. I think she looks cool. The fact that it’s shockingly expensive is the notable thing.

I don't think it is "shockingly expensive". It's been discussed on other threads and it's around £300.

I like it.

geumsandpeonies · 07/07/2024 12:28

Hate her husband’s politics etc etc but actually I think that’s a good dress for the moment! Sober, depressing, demure, restrained. Inspired choice!

Yes I’ve already responded to another poster about misreading the cost.

Yes, I get you.

JulySheWillFlyAndGiveNoWarningToHerFlight · 07/07/2024 12:33

There's a link on this thread where it can be bought for Rs. 27,500.00, which converts to £247.

So, it might have been cheaper than Victoria Starmer's, and is made from sustainable cotton in an ethical way.

Both dresses look fine to me, and neither is too costly given the occasion.

Obviouslynotallthere · 07/07/2024 12:33

Personally I really like the dress and I think it's sending a message. Modest, the colour and the Indian design but very British.

@LadyKenya just for you ☺️

Great dress. I love the tie back bow.

DisforDarkChocolate · 07/07/2024 12:38

I like it, and much more importantly she does.

Itsagreatdaytosavelives · 07/07/2024 12:38

its beautiful!

Teentaxidriver · 07/07/2024 12:40

She looks lovely. Interesting that Lady Starmer can wear a £250 jacket without criticism but not Mrs Sunak ….

Corinthiana · 07/07/2024 12:44

I always liked Theresa May's style - it was a bit alternative. I liked her shoes and statement jewellery. Boris always looked such a mess, but I think that was his thing.

i think it’s 27500 rupees, about £258? Beyond most people’s budgets, but I thought quite low given her budget.

saveforthat · 07/07/2024 11:04

This. I wonder if men start threads saying didn't he look awful. I thought the dress was hideous but it was just a passing thought I kept to myself. Why post on an Internet forum to ridicule her.

There's a poster on Twitter-X, Derek Guy/dieworkwear, who posts on men's tailoring. He addresses the suits/cut/material specifically rather than personalities (tho people with whom he possibly doesn't agree politically tend to get more of a drubbing). His threads are fascinating. He is a bit tough on Daniel Craig's suits and adores the King of Spain!

Corinthiana · 07/07/2024 12:46

King Felipe always looks sharp. He has a very good tailor!

😆 For the third time, I would like to offer my deep apologies for having previously misread the cost of the dress.

HMTheQueenMuffin · 07/07/2024 12:46

Yes I loved that Theresa May bought one of Maggie Thatcher's most famous bracelets.

That's the sort of thing I would do. If I had the money.

JimNast · 07/07/2024 12:47

She looks good and the outfit is striking, memorable and appropriate, @sunshinegrey .

hellywelly3 · 07/07/2024 12:48

I thought it was strange choice for the day with the pattern on the chest looking like blue arrows going down. But the dress itself is absolutely fine

SpidersAreShitheads · 07/07/2024 12:48

I really don’t like the dress and I was a bit bemused by another thread where everyone seemed to love it. I didn’t give it much thought when I saw her though, it’s not as if I thought it was dreadful - just not my personal taste.

But I am impressed by the fact it’s actually very well-priced, Indian, and made with sustainable cotton.

It doesn’t matter if I don’t like it though, it’s only a difference in personal taste. It fitted her well and she looked stylish, it’s just not a type of dress that I would pick, regardless of my figure.

I think fair play to her for picking a bold dress that she likes. Genuinely good for her.

Angela Rayner looked awful though. The trousers seemed heavily creased and as if they didn’t fit/loose in the wrong places. I frequently argue with my DP as he always seems to negatively comment on female MP appearances and not the men which really irks me. He commented on Angela Rayner’s trousers, I turned round to say “leave her alone” but the words died in my mouth as she genuinely did look a bit bizarre.

On the flip side, Louise Haigh (?) looked absolutely stunning.

Wisenotboring · 07/07/2024 12:49

I thought she looked great.

Corinthiana · 07/07/2024 12:49

@HMTheQueenMuffin I didn't know that! That's what I'd do! Great choice.
Thatcher always looked good, I know she wore M&S and Aquascutum. I saw an interview with her and she said her clothes had to be "serviceable" which I liked. She was very much in a man's world, so it was hard for her.

Its about £400 - which for most of us is expensive, but not shockingly when you consider

Murty and Sunak hold the 245th rank for the richest people in Britain as of 2024, with a combined wealth of £651 million (US$827 million).
