There is both.

RobinsonsOrange · 05/07/2024 13:29

There wasn't a link on the original post if you're on the app. It does this sometimes. It's absolutely rubbish

Lentilweaver · 05/07/2024 13:29

She likes red a lot no? It does suit her. I like the dress and the contrast stitching, though I wish it came in cotton or viscose, as red in that fabric seems a bit loud.

MakemineaGandT · 05/07/2024 13:35

I thought she looked absolutely beautiful. The dress was perfect, and she just radiated health and joy. She and Keir look very comfortable together and as though they really do care about each other and support each other. To my surprise I found myself shedding an emotional tear as they entered No. 10!

dontforgetme · 05/07/2024 13:37

Thought she looked amazing.

Lentilweaver · 05/07/2024 13:48

Akshata's dress is awful.

Lentilweaver · 05/07/2024 13:48

Akshata's dress is awful.

Yeah it is was good that she had a brolly but from certain angles it looked more like a shepherdess crook which was an unfortunate combination with the dress.

LadeOde · 05/07/2024 13:56

Isn't it a shame all that's discussed about the new PM's wife is her being pretty and her dress. That's not MN style is it?

This is S and B 😃There are other forums to discuss her achievements.

Surely it’s the same for Victoria starmer, her husband is a Oxford educated multi millionaire, she’s a privately educated former lawyer who only went to the nhs after getting married, they are filthy rich

What is your source for this? Calling her "Lady Starmer" might make her sound affluent, but as far as I know, she became "Lady" when he was knighted for services to the Prosecution Service.

Obviously the Starmers are very comfortably off, but there is no evidence at all that they are multi-millionaires.

The most quoted source, here, doesn't even spell his name correctly and gives no evidence for the assertion he has a property portfolio of £7.7 million.
Sir Kier Starmer: How Much Is The Labour Leader Really Worth? – Prolific London

The Evening Standard - historically not afraid to stick the boot in to the Labour Party - describes the same land, bought for Starmer's disabled mother, as being on the market for £400,000 in 2022.
All change at Number 10: Inside Prime Minister Keir Starmer's property portfolio (msn.com)

If you have evidence to the contrary, do share it, but I think this is just another example of the discourse that they are all the same. Which they really aren't.

I thought she looked stunning.

LadeOde · 05/07/2024 14:05

@Lentilweaver Fair enough, it's the only thread I've seen about her which kind of raises my point again why this is the first thing people think of her.

And thank you to the person reposting both.

Sure. He owns several acres in Surrey worth many millions.

Because they weren't super wealthy non-doms, whose wealth and tax affairs had attracted considerable comment.

It was a comment on the cost of her clothes and the need to consider the optics.

One of David Cameron’s ancestors practically built hsbc in China and the entire family is living off the hsbc shares he built up. Do you genuinely believe they pay their fair share of tax?

Mt563 · 05/07/2024 14:18

I just feel so sorry for her.. I dont think she wanted this for herself (friend of a friend) and I can't think of anything worse than the scrutiny she'll have, like this thread for example! Poor woman didn't ask for it.

Hear, hear. Leave her be unless she tries to interfere with how the country is run like Carrie apparently did. I can’t imagine she will.

StrongandNorthern · 05/07/2024 14:19

Jeeeesus.

SlightlySceptical · 05/07/2024 14:20

@Myblindsaredown your article quotes the first one I shared (the one which couldn't even spell his name right), which has no source for the 7.7 million figure.

My second article, from a source which is not pro-labour, shows that the multi millionaire accusations are false.

Do you have a credible source? I suspect not.

dudsville · 05/07/2024 14:23

I wasn't taken by AM's dress until they walked to the car and I saw the band of red, that's a very striking dress, love it. VS's dress I thought was fine, but dull. I have no idea what I would wear under those circumstances!

The thread is meant to be about a dress.
It was not 7.7 million pounds. The source is I presume OP doing some reverse image search on Google 💃

The "multi-million" claim from that Politics UK link is for a plot of land he bought next to his house in Surrey in the 1990s, when it would have been worth considerably less. It's a bit like accusing all the pensioners still living in their homes in the Home Counties of being multi-millionaires. Asset inflation has been horrible for this country and I'd love to see a way out of it that wouldn't involve complete economic Armageddon, but Starner's hardly alone in having a property that's ballooned in value over the past 20 years.

The same fact check goes on to say this:

"Unlike many politicians,Sir Keir Starmer was not born into a life of privilege. Starmer was born in Southwark. His father, Rodney Starmer, was a toolmaker and his mother was a nurse. He was later educated at Reigate Grammar School in Surrey."

I liked the red dress, personally. Pretty, modest, and didn't try too hard.

HowIrresponsible · 05/07/2024 14:25

Nearly £300 for that ?!
Money to burn
