Am I too old for this wedding dress?

Aged 46, size 8. Wedding in Sept. Is it a bit prom like, youthful, mutton / lamb?

Have you looked at needle and thread dresses? Absolutely stunning and if I was getting married again I would get one. I think they fulfill the brief of special, not white (again) and also not the crazy £2-3k price that a first time bride might get duped into springing for. I love this one and I’ve seen it in real life and the bride looked stunning. https://www.needleandthread.com/products/camellia-ditsy-ankle-gown-champagne-white

Camellia Ditsy Ankle Gown

It's absolutely beautiful

ForGreyKoala · 22/06/2024 22:47

I love the first one, not so keen on the second, but either would be fine. You don't need to spend a fortune on a wedding dress.

VaccineSticker · 22/06/2024 22:51

Go to a specialist wedding dress shop and try them on. I personally don’t believe in buying wedding dresses online unless you’ve tried it and you have found it cheaper elsewhere.
I think your choices are not bridal enough and don’t have the wow factor that you deserve as a bride. please don’t take that the wrong way, if you are convinced with your choice then go ahead, but there are nicer dresses out there for your big day. X

It’s beautiful but anyone over 35 shouldn’t wear white (I’m aware that my opinion is controversial).

Why?

feathermucker · 22/06/2024 22:59

First one is lovely but I'd be interested to see what the second one looks like on you as it might be lovely :-)

COPPER3 · 22/06/2024 23:02

Beautiful!

Speaking · 22/06/2024 23:06

I'll go against the grain here as I think the 2nd dress is the showstopper. Really elegant.

New2024newname · 22/06/2024 23:13

Both dresses are gorgeous and age appropriate. FWIW, a friend wore that exact Ghost dress for her wedding in a classy and expensive venue, and it suited the vibe perfectly- it is a beautiful dress. Not all brides want dramatic silhouettes, big train etc!

LadyRoughDiamond · 22/06/2024 23:25

The Self Portrait dress would look lovely with a cream headband and birdcage veil, perhaps like this one:

Marblessolveeverything · 22/06/2024 23:30

The first one is classic and will be beautiful. It would honestly suit all venues.

@Berlinlover

why 35?

BobbyBiscuits · 22/06/2024 23:32

I don't find it prom like at all. I'm sure it will look lovely.

Roryhon · 22/06/2024 23:34

Love the first one, it’s so pretty. The second one looks like something a guest might wear and get criticised for because it’s a bit like a wedding dress, but isn’t.

@Speaking

reallyi just don't see it.not at all.

@MistressOfCopperMountain

thank god it looks better on you!!

any chance of a photo?

Neither are to my taste (but clearly to plenty of others! ) but the first one is a zillion times better. But I'd need to see them on you, not ironing board models.

i thought they'd stopped using models who look like they have eating disorders??

BCBird · 22/06/2024 23:59

The first one is lovely. You will look.wonderful. Congratulations.

redcess · 23/06/2024 00:03

It's gorgeous! Definitely not too young looking, is very classy

redcess · 23/06/2024 00:05

The first dress I was referring to. Second is nice but not as stunning as first

crumblingschools · 23/06/2024 00:06

@Berlinlover why the cut off of 35

RedYellowPinkGreenPurpleOrangeBlue · 23/06/2024 00:06

I think it's really nice and you're not too old for it at all. I am confused though, because a poster put a message on here the other day (she was a guest at a wedding,) and she said 'am I too old for this dress - I am a guest at a wedding.' It was almost identical to this one and everybody else said it was hideous and frumpy - and a 90 year old would be too young for it. This place really baffles me sometimes.

I think I remember that thread... I don't think the dress was similar

AzkabanWitch · 23/06/2024 00:23

are you dead? No, then wear the dress.

MartyFunkhouser · 23/06/2024 00:29

I usually love ghost dresses but that one looks very drab on the model. It’d be nicer if longer and she wasn’t flat chested.

I’m not mad about the first one, but you’re definitely not too old for it.

Wasn’t that the queen mother-esque outfit?

Some posters said that yeah. Yet it looked very similar to the one the OP is talking about on here. Most people said the dress on that other thread was only fit for a 90 year old. (I didn't!) Yet on this thread, a very similar dress is cool and funky fresh! Baffling! 😆 This place sometimes!
