to be surprised at the endurance of leopard print

I do have a couple of leopard print things.

But leopard print mainly makes me think of shadowy memories of once seeing Cynthia Payne in it on the news.

Anyone else?

My mum was obsessed with avoiding anything which was associated with a woman “looking cheap and I had plenty of instructions growing up!
Leopard print - “women of the night”
Ankle bracelets - as above
Henna on hair - as above
Red shoes - as above
Gold sandals - dubious, jury’s out
Toe nail polish - also dubious
To be fair, there wasn’t much leopard print around when I was in my teens (1980s) so maybe there was more of a hidden message associated with it, which lost its relevance as it became more mainstream?

@CeliaCanth I can add tattoos and smoking from my grandmother and mum as things 'ladies' should not be seen to do. I have failed them on the tat front as I have a little one under my watch.
I love LP - it's a texture thing, and yes, I think it can be a neutral in the same way as tan shoes/belts/bags can be. With black, white or camel it's very refined. I love it for interiors too, carpets, the odd good quality cushion etc. It can give a slightly punk edge to things as well, especially in pink or green.

@CeliaCanth your mother would have been horrified at me in the 80s!

I regularly wore a leopard print top I used to borrow from my mum. Often with red shoes! And I used to henna my hair. Wore an ankle bracelet for a while. And I had gold sandals.

I love it in dark brown, grey and dark olive. I do have some of the orange stuff in a jumper and accents on boots.

It's a bit weird just how outraged some posters are about leopard print. Chill out.

Personally I've just bought a leopard print boiler suit and will thoroughly enjoy wearing it!

P.S I think birkenstocks are minging, stick that in your pipe MN 😂

I once has the piss taken out of me (in a light hearted way) for wearing gold sandals by one of the support workers in my office. Apparently only social workers 'of a certain age' wore gold sandals. That was about 20 years ago, so I am of that age now, and I have never been without a pair of gold sandals in my wardrobe. And I'm in a similar profession to social work so i guess I'm living up to that stereotype!😆
