to be surprised at the endurance of leopard print

I do have a couple of leopard print things.

But leopard print mainly makes me think of shadowy memories of once seeing Cynthia Payne in it on the news.

Anyone else?

@gleefulstar not judgy at all!
No offence taken, we're all into different things I guess!
People are often shocked when they see mine too 😂

Much less tacky than misogyny, as looks go.

Yes! So much internalised misogyny here! Leopard print is really handy as a neutral or a statement, which makes it fashion gold, even on women over 40 who have the audacity to wear it.

henlake7 · 15/06/2024 12:46

Ive realiesed Im very fussy about my leopard print though...I only really like it in a medium, natural looking print or in muted tones if its coloured.
So nothing really loud, I dont think it needs it!

BatshitCrazyWoman · 15/06/2024 12:49

I like it. It's personal taste thing.

Personally, I don't see the attraction of flowery frilly dresses on adult women, but they're still really popular.

I have leopard print carpet on my stairs!
I love it!
Didn't buy it for other people so who cares 😃

Sounds fabulous (I'm tempted!). I have a leopard print wall in my house.

alrightluv · 15/06/2024 13:42

Gucci obviously don't think it's tacky

Gucci’s brand ethos is tacky. So They clearly do. They love the tacky.

@BatshitCrazyWoman it's fabulous, not to everyone's taste I know, but I just love it

It just doesn't suit me at all. I can't carry it off. It's too busy. I've succumbed a few times and, for both items, I've rarely worn them as they feel so unme and any photos have confirmed that.

learieonthewildmoor · 15/06/2024 14:00

I hate leopard print for myself, but love it on other people.
It has a glam vibe to me. Was it Jackie Collins who always wore it -so over the top and IDGAF.
A woman I worked with always wore something leopard, and she always looked polished and well put together.

AstonMartha · 15/06/2024 14:02

I hate flowery print on myself, we are all different.

@countvoncount oh what??? Would you like a lodger?

Blah12345678999 · 15/06/2024 14:39

Yeah, I think it’s a neutral print tbh

Imnotarestaurant · 13/06/2024 11:39

It’s easier to disguise marks from sticky fingers/snotty noses/sitting on the floor with patterned clothes!!

Ooh clever! That’s a really good idea wearing leopard print or prints in general! I somehow always get a stain on my clothes and I don’t even have the kids excuse!

Floorbard · 15/06/2024 14:55

Berlinlover · 12/06/2024 15:16

I can’t understand parents who dress their daughters in leopard print clothing. It’s bad enough on an adult but it looks awful on a child.

Aw, my baby looks lovely in a wee leopard print top! Why do you think it looks awful?

I think it looks cheap and tacky and is totally inappropriate on a baby or child.

eurovisionfan · 15/06/2024 23:59

I prefer dogtooth love dogtooth pattern on clothes with red lipstick

countvoncount · 16/06/2024 08:32

@Appalonia I think you may mean the furry Mona Lisa?

Pollipops1 · 16/06/2024 09:23

Why is it inappropriate?

Because there’s a very old, outdated view that leopard print is only worn by harlots.

klodhppie · 16/06/2024 09:33

I have absolutely no idea who Cynthia Payne is. My mum is of a generation that links leopard print to certain stereotypes, but I quite like it. Different generations often have different perceptions I guess although I hope I don't get stuck in my world view, I've managed to embrace the taller sock despite being a millennial! My mum still thinks only "tarts" paint their toe nails too. I hadn't heard the word tart since the 90s Grin

Really? those people must be quite old as leopardskin has been in fashion for ages, it comes in and out of fashion constantly. I dont ever recall it being labelled as something only prostitutes wear or causing outrage and shock and I'm in my 40s. I do remember my late nan saying only prostitutes wore ankle bracelets but she was in her mid 80s when she said that 😂

daisymoonlight · 16/06/2024 11:32

Ok, I just googled Cynthia Payne as I have no idea who she is either and it looks like she wore a lot of tartan jackets- is that the sign of a prostitute too?

Their HQ must in Scotland then 😆

Whycantiwinmillionsandsquillions · 16/06/2024 13:47

I remember people, not sure who, saying if you wore an ankle bracelet you were a prostituted.
Also men who wore an earring in their right ear were gay!
Sounds crazy now. Just another misogynistic slur.
