I'm not happy with how she did my nails

ChimneySweepLiverpool · 06/06/2024 14:50

I go to a lovely place for my nails for years and this time I went to another girl. She was very lovely and took her time but I feel my nails look like I could have done it myself. I paid 61 pounds including nail art and am happy to pay this as the nail art is normally really good. I get them done once a month

I'll post a picture of what I wanted versus what I got. Maybe I'm being unreasonable or just need to get used to them

Guessing as past 9pm you didn't get in there

I'm still in shock that you pay double what most charge near me

FuckTheClubUp · 06/06/2024 22:52

Omg😂😂 I don’t understand how things like this happen! You’re literally sitting in the chair watching them do your nails.

All you need to say is ‘that’s not how I want them, can you do xyz.’ If you want to trust the process and they still look awful at the end, you say ‘can you take this off please? I asked for it to look like this and it doesn’t.’

It’s not about confrontation tbh. You’re paying for a service, why would you pay for something you DON’T like. Sending them an email is just ridiculous imo. Say something at the time, ask for someone else to do it or leave the salon with your nails looking awful. My nail lady would have done the requested look at no more than £35. You’ve just let yourself be ripped off!

Edited

This is besides the point but how do people still manage to do a name change fail on threads? Can this still happen if you’re on the app or something?

ChimneySweepLiverpool · 06/06/2024 15:24

@WhamBamThankU it was yesterday.

She did two layers of the orange but the second layer was with another brush (not the applicator) and she seemed to put loads on. She did one layer of the black and it's almost transparent in spots

You could have spoken up at anyyyy time during this process. I’m not sure how you can just watch someone fuck something up that you’re paying for? Maybe I’m too brazen in the nail shop/hairdressers but a customer needs to leave the shop feeling satisfied, not with dodgy nails

ChimneySweepLiverpool · 06/06/2024 23:01

To be honest, with the nice lighting etc, I didn't see it as bad at the time. The appointment was also very long and I had to go somewhere

In day light today I noticed it fully

They do look terrible, hope you get them sorted and they don't charge.

FuckTheClubUp · 06/06/2024 23:07

You should either start BIAB in order to grow your nails or have a full set of acrylics done which can be cut down very short to achieve your desired look.

I disagree with the poster who said this is London prices. I live in Zone 2 but my salon is in Zone 1 and it’s still only £35-£40 max for gel manicure/nail art/acrylics etc.

OP, next time I definitely recommend speaking up and letting them know you’re not satisfied. Speaking up doesn’t mean you’re being rude, it means that you leave feeling happy for what you paid for

Greengrapeofhome · 06/06/2024 23:10

I haven’t read the full thread but I would also be gutted spending £60 odd quid on them. My nails cost half of that- that’s crazy prices. I think your nail shape is part of the problem but it’s also the fault of the nail technician too doing a shite job. I’m not a fan of the original nails though either. I hope you get it sorted

ChimneySweepLiverpool · 06/06/2024 23:17

I was trying to convince myself I liked them but after reading this thread it's basically impossible 😛

Oh my, I pay somewhere between £28 and £32 for my nails (dependant on how much nail art I have done) I have builder gel due to having pretty rubbish natural nails as well. I'd be deeply unhappy about those especially given how much you've paid. I hope that this gets resolved for you quickly, it's just not a good advertisement for the shop is it? A good nail tech should be able to adjust designs to suit your current nail shape and length.

Arconialiving · 06/06/2024 23:48

I think the job she did was fine, however your hands and nails are nothing like the models so it was never going to look the same. Sorry Op but I think it's your mistake, not the salon's.

Appleblum · 07/06/2024 01:57

Sorry OP but it's bad. Not so much the design, but the application is so thick and chunky... it reminds me of when you try to paint your nails using nail polish that have half dried out and they are thick and goopy.

GreekGod · 07/06/2024 05:14

Go back and tell them you’re not happy. It’s a shame to go to a wedding with nails like that. If they refuse to do them again go somewhere else and leave it as a lesson learned

FlamingoFlamboyance · 07/06/2024 08:31

You can paint over gel so if you can't get them fixed before you leave I'd buy a darker colour of normal polish and either paint over them yourself or get a friend to do it.

Won't help the thickness and bulk but it'll be less noticeable.

I do my own gel nails and would have done a better job than that!

Are you absolutely blind?

GreenFairies · 07/06/2024 09:05

You know what OP, I think the nails could have worked on you despite you having wider nails than the model. If your nails were short to start with then probably not, but if long, then if they were at least filed to the same shape and length, then it would have been a huge improvement. They’ve been done way too short and round.

ChimneySweepLiverpool · 07/06/2024 10:49

They emailed me now to say they can remove the top gel and apply nude gel but it's company policy to use the same staff member for repairs and she's only free at 7pm today

I've asked to go Monday evening when I get back

Challenge the policy! Ask them why you would go back and have them done again by someone who didn't do it correctly the first time .

XelaM · 07/06/2024 10:58

We're in North London and the place next to us charges £30 for actual beautiful nail art including acrylics/shellac nails. 💅🏻

You are getting ripped off!

ABirdsEyeView · 07/06/2024 11:00

They don't seem very accommodating, given what they've charged you. I think it might be time to find a new salon.

SunriseSunsets · 07/06/2024 11:00

Both pics look hideous tbf

ChimneySweepLiverpool · 07/06/2024 11:01

They're being very rude now. They have offered me 2pm on Tuesday as an alternative time. I'm not missing work and have challenged them on the policy as I can see they have free appointments at lunch time today online

OP posts:
ChimneySweepLiverpool · 07/06/2024 11:04

I actually still have birthday vouchers to use for the future, but I don't think I want to go there anymore now

I'm awful at complaining as previously mentioned and they're making me feel really unreasonable

OP posts:
CoastalCalm · 07/06/2024 11:04

I’d just book one of the appointments today and turn up to get them fixed and refuse to pay - they will not want a scene in front of other customers

Blahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahlalala · 07/06/2024 11:08

I’m a nail tech. As previously mentioned your nails are too short for the design and you have quite wide nails. The design would suit narrower nails with more length. It could have been adapted by putting the design lower on the nail.

With regards to their policy, are they self employed? If self employed it is usual to go back to the person you were with initially.
