Best solution for thigh rub on holiday

I’m going to Greece in August so it will be really hot. I have lots of lovely dresses I want to wear but have the age old problem of thigh rub. Normally in the UK I will wear cycling shorts underneath but even when it’s 30 odd degrees here, they make me feel really hot and uncomfortable so I can’t imagine it’ll be much better abroad! It’s something about being covered around mid section and then with the dress over the top just makes me so hot. I want to be cool and flowy 😂

Seems the options are:

  • using a non-shorts solution like a cream designed for thigh rub. I’ve never used them before so don’t want to rely on them. Has anyone used anything like that?
  • shorts that are designed to cool you down? I’ve seen loads of adverts for shorts designed for this that are meant to cool you down a couple of degrees. These are kind of expensive though.

Any recommendations, please let me know! Don’t want to be miserable and sore on holiday, or really hot.

There is always one.

“Have you tried not being fat?”

I second this! The cream stick one with the white lid applied liberally. Bloody brilliant!

I also do this - generally absolutely brilliant - but sometimes it still doesn't quite do the job and you have raw, sore skin and then I don't feel it's right to put it over on the next day etc. I'm then reduced to waddling with my feet 3 yards apart and hoping against all the evidence that nobody notices.

Thanks for this thread OP I will try some of these shorts from M&S and Snag now. I've always felt embarrassed to buy them which is silly isn't it!!

depends which way you are put together you don't need to be overweight to get chub rub

CharlotteBog · 02/06/2024 18:40

I use Body Glide before I race (run). This is only time I've chaffed - I guess the sweat and the change in gait when I get tired means my thighs are rubbing (and my shorts too short!). It has never let me down.

Ordinary roll on deodorant from Aldi - I tend to use the one calls "cotton" - works a treat

Christine1998 · 02/06/2024 19:36

asda little angels liquid talc (baby dept) is good for the dreaded thigh rub, also use it under boobs etc to stop sweat showing in fitted clothes. Works wonders.

My friend is manager of a running store in canada. They sell chub rub sticks and creams for runners. He told me to not bother paying the price and use a stick deodorant (must be also antiperspirant ) and only pay out about 20 pc of the cost of the special chub rubs..which are basically the same thing!

BluebirdBoogie · 02/06/2024 20:07

Talcum powder works quite well.

BashfulClam · 02/06/2024 20:15

Big bloomer company anti chafe shorts. They are moisture wicking so make you 1 degree cooler under dresses. I don’t rate the snag ones.

Lucky you. I was a size 8 and still got chub rub

Dibbydoos · 02/06/2024 20:51

I put roll on deodrant/anti perspirant at the top of the inside of my thighs if I'm nit wearing shirts. I've never had chub rub though. I told my DD to use that recently but she hates roll on so sprayed her standard deodorant on her leg where her tights touch and found it worked.

Test it out on hot days in uk before your holiday.

Hope this helps.

Stick deodorant works for me

Ditto. Not so much the roll on deodorants.

CornflakeGirl18 · 02/06/2024 21:11

I have the M&S anti-chafe shorts but actually find the bottom of the legs roll up on me. I love my Snag shorts, they have been a game-changer.
Chuckling at the memory of horrendous chub rub on holiday in Corfu, I couldn't sleep it was so uncomfortable and the only thing I could think to apply was toothpaste - thinking about how people use it on spots - and I went to bed with minty thighs! It was a lot better in the morning though 😂

HelpMeFindAUsername · 02/06/2024 21:12

Talc powder works a treat. Small amount rubbed into the inside of each leg.

FLOWER1982 · 02/06/2024 21:13

Going from your thread title, I thought this was going to about something completely different! Slightly disappointing.

Glendaruel · 02/06/2024 21:22

Lush, silky underwear dusting powder I wasn't sure but it was liberating!!

RobinEllacotStrike · 02/06/2024 22:25

I use chamois cream - designed for cyclists and many brands are widely available on amazon.

I'm plus size and would never wear dresses or skirts in summer as I would suffer terribly with chafing. Since discovering chamois cream I wear dresses all summer long. In the last year I've had several Mediterranean holidays with loads of walking, all while wearing dresses.

I do have some snag chub rub shorts but prefer the chamois cream.

Absolutely try it - for me it's been life changing not to mention fashion changing.

The one I used to use for years is now out of stock so I've moved onto this. One tube lasts months.

Lanacane!

YellowHighHeels · 02/06/2024 22:45

Mitchum roll on!!

Another one with thunderous thighs at any size

Nat6999 · 03/06/2024 03:53

Cuticura medicated talcum powder on the inside of your thighs, it's also brilliant for under boob sweat, you could use the deodorant first & then the powder.

Nat6999 · 03/06/2024 04:01

Wirarpra ant chafe shorts, you can buy them on Amazon, £22 for 4 pairs. I can highly recommend their knickers as well, they wash well, fit brilliantly & hold my wobbly bum & tum really well. I have bladder issues & I can use an extra absorbancy pad without them coming unstuck all day.
