Best solution for thigh rub on holiday

GorgeousLadyofWrestling · 02/06/2024 10:23

I’m going to Greece in August so it will be really hot. I have lots of lovely dresses I want to wear but have the age old problem of thigh rub. Normally in the UK I will wear cycling shorts underneath but even when it’s 30 odd degrees here, they make me feel really hot and uncomfortable so I can’t imagine it’ll be much better abroad! It’s something about being covered around mid section and then with the dress over the top just makes me so hot. I want to be cool and flowy 😂

Seems the options are:

  • using a non-shorts solution like a cream designed for thigh rub. I’ve never used them before so don’t want to rely on them. Has anyone used anything like that?
  • shorts that are designed to cool you down? I’ve seen loads of adverts for shorts designed for this that are meant to cool you down a couple of degrees. These are kind of expensive though.

Any recommendations, please let me know! Don’t want to be miserable and sore on holiday, or really hot.

Asda liquid talc is great. Usually put on in the morning, reapply after lunch and it sees me through til night time

Some people have narrow legs regardless of size/weight, as for me I've always been curvy, my bottom and thighs are rounded. How can there be an adult woman who hasn't learned this? Anyway, OP, about 10 years ago I went on the hotest holiday ever, literally parts of the area caught fire. It was dreadful. I'd never experienced thigh chafing before that as I don't usually get too hot. I came home and started shopping. It took me a while to find what worked for me best, so you mght also need to shop around, but for me it is the snag shorts. They don't make me any hotter than I already am.

Innersy shorts, on amazon, they won't cool you down, but they are breathable and won't make you hotter. I wore them in Italy during a heatwave when temperatures exceeded 40c. I find a dress and these shorts more comfortable temperature wise than actual shorts.

Why would that make you feel shit? Come on, 99% of people with thigh rub are overweight. If your asking for a solution it's the obvious answer, why get offended?

Bollocks, it is more to do with pelvis shape and thigh shape. People can have thigh rub with very low body fat, especially if they have muscular thighs.

I really rate the Snag chub rub shorts, and I say that as someone who hates their tights and can’t understand people that rave about them.
i actually feel cooler wearing them, than I do without them. Though the quality isn’t great, and they do find the hems quickly come unstitched, they do a brilliant job of preventing the rub.

kitsuneghost · 02/06/2024 12:04

I have the snag chub rub shorts and actually felt cooler wearing them on holiday last year.

Marks and Spencer’s do anti chafe shorts, 2 pairs for £20. I’ve worn them in the summer under dresses for a few years, they don’t ride up, and keep me cool. They come in different skin tone colours.

I second the m&s ones. Really comfy and not tights naterial i find and very comfy

Another vote for Bodyglide.

I'm fat. I didn't use to be fat. I'd never even heard of "chub rub" or "chub shorts" until I read about them on here. Whether in my fat state or my thin state it doesn't affect me.

daphneorvelma · 02/06/2024 14:23

I love the Snag ones - super comfortable, and not hot at all. (I wore them all last summer in like 30+ degree heat.)They feel so nice on. Have really changed my life - now I can wear dresses and skirts all the time.

They also come in lots of different colours too.

RandomWhisker · 02/06/2024 14:28

I used to be a size 6/8 & suffered with chub rub at the tops of my thighs. I remember the first time, I was 18 & went on my first 'hot' holiday & suffered dreadfully. I just tried to ignore it & sit with my legs apart as much as possible!

On arriving back at the airport I put a pair of tights on & was confused why it didn't feel much better. Later, I took them off & they were all stuck to the top of my thighs where they were bleeding.

Anyway, sorry OP, PP comments just annoyed me! I'm now a size 14 & have used Snag shorts for years, they are comfortable & don't roll up but they do make me hot. Last year I tried Ivyverdure Anti Chaffe stick. Perfect! It's pricey but lasted the whole year, I just ordered a new one for this year.

Beautiful bloomers- so airy and last years.

mitogoshi · 02/06/2024 14:33

I have Sainsbury's active gym shorts, added benefits include modesty if short skirt rides up and they are pretty shaping for my flabby tummy! I don't find them hot because they are wicking, I've worn them in 40+ degrees

Motnight · 02/06/2024 14:33

Body Glide for me too. It's miraculous stuff!

Interestingly I had the absolute worst between thighs chaffing when I was much younger and slimmer.

mitogoshi · 02/06/2024 14:36

Also take sudocreme, heels it overnight plus helps with sunburn, spot emergencies (redness reduced overnight), shaving rash (men) and hundred other uses!

Dove stick deodorant on your thigh

Really helpful, thanks. Hadn’t thought of that.

Amazingly, even if you’re slim, some thighs still rub together. At my slimmest, size 8, they still did. I’ve always had bigger legs. Not really something I can help but thanks for making me feel a bit shit.

Im a size 8. My thighs hurt!!!

Dove stick deo

Dryplate · 02/06/2024 14:42

I've got some really thin ones from M&S that make me feel much cooler than sticky thighs.

I also have some cotton Sloggi ones, but I find they're quite thick and warm and also that dresses cling to them.

I've never found a cream type solution that works.

I second this! The cream stick one with the white lid applied liberally. Bloody brilliant!

Dryplate · 02/06/2024 14:45

Fwiw, I'm a size 10, 5'7" and 10st, I run about 40 miles a week. I am in no way fat and my legs are really well toned. I still can't wear running shiorts shorter than 5 in and never wear dresses without cycle shorts.

MagnoliaStory · 02/06/2024 14:54

I used to buy cotton cycling shorts from Primark for summer/holidays. They’re thin, so not toowarm and worked perfectly to stop chafing.

Having said that I’ve been doing Cambridge 1:1 diet since 1st Jan and have lost over 4 stone to go from a size 16 to size 10. Currently doing maintenance phase. I no longer get the sore thighs or need the cycling shorts. I know everyone jumped on a PP for suggesting weight loss for an August holiday, but it is possible to make a difference in a short time.

SaltBlossom · 02/06/2024 14:56

.

PilgorTheGoat · 02/06/2024 14:58

Sorry for poking in but are you really meant to wear snag chub rubs without knickers?

CMOTDibbler · 02/06/2024 14:58

Runderwear long leg pants. they are no thing of beauty but are sweat wicking, absolutely no chafing anywhere and so comfortable

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · 02/06/2024 15:00

I live in chub rub shorts all year round that wear under dresses. Just got mine off Amazon.
