Best solution for thigh rub on holiday

I’m going to Greece in August so it will be really hot. I have lots of lovely dresses I want to wear but have the age old problem of thigh rub. Normally in the UK I will wear cycling shorts underneath but even when it’s 30 odd degrees here, they make me feel really hot and uncomfortable so I can’t imagine it’ll be much better abroad! It’s something about being covered around mid section and then with the dress over the top just makes me so hot. I want to be cool and flowy 😂

Seems the options are:

  • using a non-shorts solution like a cream designed for thigh rub. I’ve never used them before so don’t want to rely on them. Has anyone used anything like that?
  • shorts that are designed to cool you down? I’ve seen loads of adverts for shorts designed for this that are meant to cool you down a couple of degrees. These are kind of expensive though.

Any recommendations, please let me know! Don’t want to be miserable and sore on holiday, or really hot.

I wear Snag Chub rubs in 40 degree heat. They don't make you overheat and they do the job better than any barrier products which just sweat off eventually.

I’m slim but have never succeeded in getting a thigh gap. So anyone telling you to lose weight is not being helpful.
Occasionally I’ve had chafing and have found nappy rash cream or a barrier cream to be effective.

Really second the recommendation for Lanacane - it’s brilliant! Have a great holiday!!

Why would that make you feel shit? Come on, 99% of people with thigh rub are overweight. If you're asking for a solution it's the obvious answer, why get offended?

Grow up.

Really helpful, thanks. Hadn’t thought of that.

Amazingly, even if you’re slim, some thighs still rub together. At my slimmest, size 8, they still did. I’ve always had bigger legs. Not really something I can help but thanks for making me feel a bit shit.

Yep agree with this - when I was 46kg I still got chub rub on hot sweaty days. I have muscular cyclist’s thighs.

OP, I use body glide and it works well but it rubs off. The M&S shorts linked above are great, and not hot to wear.

I swear by Dove's stick deodorant on my thighs. I would chafe terribly if I didn't use that! Inexpensive and fits in my handbag for frequent top ups too.

Imo it's not helpful to talk about thigh gap anyway as it's so dependent on body type, and some (please note I said some) people who have it are too thin.

Puppiesmakemehappy · 02/06/2024 15:19

Primark do a version of Body Glide, it’s 3.50 . Works for a marathon, would probably work the finest on holiday too.
It is with the make up toiletries section and in a bright orange roll on container with bright pink lid.

Thereshegoesagain · 02/06/2024 15:24

Roll on deodorant.
Hasn't failed me yet.

Nigellasstickytoffeepudding · 02/06/2024 15:25

Anyone else think thighs are a stupid design? Must have been awful when putting up with it was the only option. I used to get it so bad as a kid. Really suffered in summer 🙁

ZiriForGood · 02/06/2024 15:32

Bandelletes thigh bands
No need for full extra shorts, just popon a band. There is a lacy option to look nice, but I prefer the unisex one, because it is smooth and I can wear it on just one leg at the time.

jenny38 · 02/06/2024 16:51

My vote for sloggi long legged pants, they are cotton

Ponderingwindow · 02/06/2024 16:54

Thigh Society

they have really thin cooling shorts. Swap them for underwear and you will feel
so much cooler all day.

Not always the solution. I am a normal weight and my legs still rub together, I suspect in order for them not to I would need to be a walking skeleton.

Anyway in solution..

Lanacane chafing gel works but I find I have to reapply it if I get sweaty. It's only a small tube so easy to put in a bag.

I keep seeing body glide recommended but I seem to think it might be American, worth a try.

Maybe try a running shop if there is one near you because runners (and cyclists) also get chafing. I recently learned nipple chafing is a thing for runners!

I have some tummy control shorts from M&S, do absolutely nothing for my c section pouch, they aren't tight and can be worn without knickers so perfect for under dresses. I have black but I think they come in beige?

Porridgeislife · 02/06/2024 17:10

Gold Bond thigh rub stick is the business. I keep some in my bag year round. You get it on Amazon. I’m another who is relatively slim but gets thigh rub!

LifeIsGood444 · 02/06/2024 17:10

I wear these and lovely. Amazing and looks nice on.

Another vote for the M&S chafing shorts. They are fab, I wear them all summer

Blacknailer · 02/06/2024 17:13

Normal silicone-based lube in a small travel bottle.
Also useful if sandals start rubbing.

Balloonhearts · 02/06/2024 17:16

Colloidal silver. I use Alfasilver it's actually for wounds, blisters and the like but creates a powdery coating that's a bitch to remove without saline so doesn't rub off easily.

Violetparis · 02/06/2024 17:22

Lanacane worked for me too, think I bought the cream rather than the gel.

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 02/06/2024 17:29

Avoid cotton shorts as although it breathes it holds moisture. You want a microfiber that dries quickly.

Droolylabradors · 02/06/2024 17:32

I use talc. Rub it on both thighs and I'm good to go.

For me it's less the rubbing, more the sweat you get in that area. Without the sweat, I'm OK ish.

I also take a very cheap thin pashmina in my bag when I'm out and it's hot. I then put it on the chair in cafes and restaurants, stops that sweaty chair feeling. Also you can pull some up between your legs to absorb an extra sweat while you are sitting and if it's super hot. Mines so thin I can stuff it into a uniqlo size bag.

I find Body Glide works really well.

Yes. I came to say that. Body glide works wonders! I have a pack in every handbag.
