Fat girl summer - let's slay 💅

Lwrenn · 15/05/2024 18:56

So, for those of us who are chunky yet funky, what's the plan ladies?

Shall we give no fucks and wear nice comfy summery clothes or do we worry about keeping every inch of us covered head to toe in black until we sweat so hard we melt? What's the plan?

Currently a size 20/22 myself, unlikely to get down to a magical size 14 by July so I'm looking at the nice comfy looking linen pants, few maxi dresses, shorts because I'm a wee chubby pale rebel and to really go wild a jumpsuit or two.

Simply be has some lovely things at the moment including shoes, asos curve is looking alright and vinted is my best pal.

I'm 35 for a few more months and don't want to have another summer in my 30s hating my body, so this year I'm going to embrace it. Anyone with me?

I am wearing COLOUR today!

I made this skirt a few years ago in thinner times and thought it was now too small but it's not. Which I suspect says more about my ability to accurately measure and fit!

And the top is one of my French ones. Bought this year.

I'm still a little cautious about the amount of leg, principally because I haven't shaved them today! But who cares. I like it and feel confident. The critics can GTF!!

Happy solstice!

Love those colours 💚looks great!

PennyNotWise · 21/06/2024 10:17

I love this thread so much. Thought of you when I got dressed this morning.
I usually wear a black T-shirt tucked in with this skirt, but felt very lumpy today 😬 Have tried a knot and colour, I think it’s better?
Trying out some chub rubs, very freeing! 😁 Realised I can also wear them under some dungarees which rub a bit ❤️

Oh I should add that I’m now obsessed with Vinted, thanks! 😂
However when I looked at Prima Donna the expletives were flying! 😂😂 One day…

@RobinEllacotStrike I am loving the sound of a sparkly bejewelled tiger top! You have reminded me I need to start thinking about fancy dress for Shambala! The theme is “wild and free” and I have to sort something for me and for the kids. So far I have a six year old who wants to be a pikachu…

its vintage Primark 😄

must have bougth it pre kids so over 17 years ago now. It has 3 large cutouts over shoulder and down the elbow length sleeves which are lined with big proper silver jewel rhinestones. Very extra - I'm so glad I bought it and its not been rashly decluttered over the years. I really only wear it for festivals etc now. good times!

its always good to start thinking about fancy dress etc way before you need too - time rushes by very quickly

RobinEllacotStrike · 21/06/2024 11:28

Finally it's warm enough to wear my Manners Asri without a cardigan on top.

I feel so happy wearing this dress. It's the petite length in size XL.

That is gorgeous!! 😍

RobinEllacotStrike · 21/06/2024 11:52

thank you - it does an excellent job of skimming over bumps and lumps, no bra is required - I just wear the dress and knickers. Add in good size pockets & it feels very liberating to wear. I can also get changed into a swimsuit on the ebach while wearing it very easily.

I'm 5'9" and I prefer the petite length. I also have an Asri in standard length and its a bit longer.

MadameMassiveSalad · 21/06/2024 11:53

Like to have an element of sleeves (could be capped or puffed)
I love most colours.
Size 18 / 5ft 8" / large of nork.

Any help hugely appreciated 👗💃🏻

Gorgeous colours!

MadameMassiveSalad · 21/06/2024 11:58

@RobinEllacotStrike just looking at the Manners sizing. What's your normal dress size, if you don't mind sharing?

RobinEllacotStrike · 21/06/2024 12:01

I would say 22 usually, but that is often just for the bust fit. So sometimes 20 in a jersey dress or where a dress can accommodate a larger bust.

With Asri dresses I have XL and L - I'm probably at the very top of being able to wear an L now.

RobinEllacotStrike · 21/06/2024 12:03

youre a size 18 so I would suggest L, or even M depending on how large of nork you are 😁

With this dress the bust fit is all you need to worry about

That's beautiful!

How do the shoulder straps feel? Not too cutting into the shoulder?

I love it on you. You look gorgeous in it.

wateringcanface · 21/06/2024 13:46

I'm glad this thread is still going strong! You ladies are all looking great.

I know this is not a weight loss thread, but I do have to lose weight for IVF in a few months, (6 pounds away from BMI 30, but ideally want to be a couple stone down to keep plenty wiggle room for bloat). But I'm determined that while I'm losing weight, to not hide away till the point I feel content I've lost 'enough', because will there ever be what I deem enough? I will look good at my current weight; I will also look good with a stone or two down, where I am on the weight spectrum does not place how worthy I am to wear nice clothes. (I don't 100% believe myself yet but getting there).

Going out tonight (quite late from 8 onwards) - going to wear black leather style leggings, a body suite and a white crop tied shirt.

RobinEllacotStrike · 21/06/2024 14:11

@TragicMuse thank you x.

the shoulder straps are fine - though I wouldnt mind if they were a bit more solid.
Its the fit around the bust that holds it all together

I think this particular listing is over priced, but I own this dress and it’s absolutely my favourite to wear to a wedding!

Sainsbury’s Tu clothing have 25% off at the moment. They’ve got loads of wide leg cropped trousers in all manner of colours. £14 each, so £10.50 with the 25% discount. On a short arse like me they are a perfect length with sandals. On taller types they will either be a nice crop, or a weird flappy neither-one-thing-nor-the-other, so maybe not everyone can benefit, but I highly recommend a look. In store I could see up to size 22.

Also: pockets!

TruthThatsHardAsSteel · 21/06/2024 17:16

@RobinEllacotStrike that looks so good on you.! The back picture showcases your curves wonderfully. I love the colour too. Can see how versatile a dress it is. The length just isn't for me at all but it looks beautiful. It's it swishy?

RobinEllacotStrike · 21/06/2024 17:18

Thank you. 😀

Yes the skirt is a bit swishy. But the fabric has some heft so it's not too lightweight. It's pretty well behaved in the wind.

I love how you've knotted that tee shirt - very stylish and gives a lovely shape .

RobinEllacotStrike · 21/06/2024 18:40

Being large of nork I don't wear many T-shirts. But I love the way you've knotted that too. I will experiment a bit with the couple of Tshirts I have that I like.
