Fat girl summer - let's slay 💅

So, for those of us who are chunky yet funky, what's the plan ladies?

Shall we give no fucks and wear nice comfy summery clothes or do we worry about keeping every inch of us covered head to toe in black until we sweat so hard we melt? What's the plan?

Currently a size 20/22 myself, unlikely to get down to a magical size 14 by July so I'm looking at the nice comfy looking linen pants, few maxi dresses, shorts because I'm a wee chubby pale rebel and to really go wild a jumpsuit or two.

Simply be has some lovely things at the moment including shoes, asos curve is looking alright and vinted is my best pal.

I'm 35 for a few more months and don't want to have another summer in my 30s hating my body, so this year I'm going to embrace it. Anyone with me?

I'm sorry you feel that @HebburnPokemon

I understand it. But as I get older I'm caring less. I'm also currently working with my teen (a delightfully slender young thing!) to take a 'so what' approach to dealing with their anxiety.

It doesn't always work. But what happens if you think to yourself 'so what if they think I'm a heifer'? The opinion of total strangers is meaningless...

I bet you're ace and your husband thinks so too. And that's what matters.

Dollyparot200 · 20/06/2024 12:56

Just wanted to share what I'm wearing today. I got these shorts and top from morrisons. I've been looking for a peasant top for ages. I'm braving showing a bit more leg lol. I got a few other bits from there too price is good and I'm happy with quality. I got a gorgeous dress too

Blueberrycreampie · 20/06/2024 13:00

You look really great. Never looked at Morrisons as none nearby but they look good quality!

TragicMuse · 20/06/2024 13:22

I've never looked at Morrisons as it's not my supermarket of choice! But I do like that too and may need to go and have a browse!

TragicMuse · 20/06/2024 13:24

Today I have accidentally completely colour-coordinated myself vertically!

Purple hair into purple top into green trousers into green trainers!

I'm quietly quite impressed with myself!

mommatoone · 19/06/2024 23:27

Re the skims shape wear. It is definitely pricey. But I got a pair of cycling shorts type thing from Vinted (new)
They were a fraction of the price. True to size and so bloody comfy ☺️
Get yourselves on vinted girls x

I feel vinted should give us all commission 😂

I was livid the other day, a jacket I adored sold hours before payday and I didn't want to dip into my savings for it.
I'm trying to be sensible.

Lesson learnt, never again 😂

Ughhh I need some support ladies.

Why does this happen to me every time I travel abroad??

I feel okay about my appearance (not great but okay). However whenever I travel to Europe (France, Germany, etc) I feel utterly HIDEOUS. I feel I look like an elephant next to the European women with their natural tans and teeny tiny waists. I find myself body checking every minute and feel so self conscious, to the point where comparisons become obsessive & compulsive. I felt hyper aware of my body and shameful of it. I even started to feel guilty that my husband is married to me and not women like them.

When I arrived back in the UK, within a few hours I felt okay again, borderline pretty.

How can I stop this cycle keep happening whenever I travel? It spoils what should be a really pleasant experience.

Sorry for dampening the thread.

Tell us at least 3 things about you that are things you love.

You can have great eyes, smile, amazing eyebrows or incredible sense of humour.
You might make a beautiful rocky road. Could be that the neighbours cat thinks you're an acceptable enough human to occasional say hi too.

They're your 3 things. Whatever they are they're special to you. No additional weight or not looking like a Victoria secret supermodel take those things away.

And 3 things to love about yourself is a great achievement. Took me getting to 33 to be able to say one nice thing about myself and I was adorable in my 20s but riddled with extreme anxiety so couldn't have chosen anything about myself.

But no matter how beautiful other women are, it doesn't take from your amazing qualities.

But if one of your 3 things is something amazing you can cook, we do need a recipe! X

@TragicMuse I love your colour co-ordination

It is finally warm enough here to wear a dress. Hurray! So fed up of leggings/jeggings and tshirts. I'm wearing a shein dress from last summer. Yesterday I had my eyebrows, lip, chin waxed (in very hairy! ) and my eyebrows and eye lashes tinted. I've been very depressed lately and so I'm trying to start to look after myself again.

Lwrenn · 20/06/2024 13:56

Oh girls I keep meaning to pop on and tell you this thing that happened to me but I've been ridiculously busy, my house is a building site currently!

I was walking my dd to the shops and I was wearing a maxi skirt, cowboy boots and a bardot top, thinking I look like a wee rockstar and pushing the pram in a world of my own. Anyway being a size 20 and very short I have been called fat when walking more times than I care to admit.
So some young blokes in a van drove past and beeped me, I was fully prepared to shout back that they were miserable little wankers/throw my boots angrily at the van and one lad just stuck his head out and whistled. But not followed by the expected giggles.
So, even if it was disingenuous, I'm bloody taking it as a compliment 😂

Now, the feminist in me is furious. Of course she is.

But the lass who is fed up of being called fat from strangers ...
Well, she's delighted 😂🙈

Sorry I keep posting repeatedly one after the other but I don't even have a chance to pee at the minute.

Hope you beauties are all well and looking gorgeous

@HebburnPokemon That sounds hard. It's hard not to compare yourself, I get it. But the truth is that you are the only person in the world that is YOU and that is so incredibly valuable. What @Lwrenn says is absolutely right. Focus on 3 things that are special to you. It genuinely does work. When I find myself thinking negative thoughts and hating myself for being so huge I try to switch myself to thinking that I'm nurturing, I can chat to anyone, I can find something nice to say to anyone. Things that don't rely on my appearance. Or, if I want to think about my appearance, I'd think that I have nice skin or pretty nails or (with the right bra!) a great cleavage. Your husband would no doubt say that he is very lucky indeed to be married to you. Hope you're doing okay.

Hecatoncheires · 20/06/2024 14:11

@Dollyparot200 Oooh, you look lovely! That outfit is very flattering. Perfect for summer!

Hecatoncheires · 20/06/2024 14:13

And, lastly, seeing as I should be working.... Just wanted to say that I love seeing everyone's outfits on here. I don't comment on each one as I'm often scrolling when I should really be doing something else, but each lovely pic and the encouragement from others makes me smile and appreciate this thread all the more. 😍

Blueberrycreampie · 20/06/2024 15:10

@Lwrenn This has happened to me so many times on Vinted. I go away to 'think about it', go back later and it's gone! I did just buy a jacket though - hope it wasn't 'yours'.

MooBaggage · 20/06/2024 15:37

Yay! Holiday time for me tomorrow - off on a (UK!) beach holiday and although it's hardly going to be roasting, I've packed my new swishy hippy skirt, new dress, playsuit and BRIGHT PINK swimming costume 😀 Can't wait to be off work and floating around in comfy clothes in bright colours..!

I also love looking at everyone's photos - don't feel brave enough to post any myself though...!

HebburnPokemon · 20/06/2024 15:51

Awww thanks both - I needed that!

There's deffo a lot more to me than my size! Thankfully my husband knows that. Easy to forget these things when surrounded by an alien race of super models! (that's what it felt like).

MooBaggage what's your itinerary? Hope you have a great time 😀

ChishiyaBat · 20/06/2024 16:19

I'm currently sat in my towel anxious as hell cuz we are leaving for Green Day tomorrow at 6pm to stay with our friend in Manchester tonight. I've packed 2 outfits, so i'll see how I feel in the morning and i'll post what i've decided on. Hope you all have a wonderful weekend.
Don't compare yourself to others you are wonderful as you are❤️. Love to all you fantastic ladies❤️.

DaffydownClock · 20/06/2024 16:56

@HebburnPokemon i know exactly what you mean; my DDIL’s parents are petite, extremely elegant and very well dressed. I feel like Nellie the elephant alongside them 😵‍💫
They are also very nice people thankfully!

I struggle with these threads, I can never remember usernames and always feel like I'm missing someone out. I don't mean to. I forget by the end but here's my best shot.

Disturbia dresses - please show! I'm a hellbunny alternative type, as is @chishiyabat

The blue dress and cardy is great 💙

Love the sound of black trousers with white spots. LOVE wide leg palazzos. The closest you can get to pj's outside.

Welcome to the new user - I'm sorry about your cancer and lymphodea, it's such a cruel illness. I have a very close family member going through the exact same currently. 🤗

Love the blue skirt, made for swishing and swirling.

So I live in pj's a lot. Every day I get into clean pj's so only get dressed really when I go out which isn't often. My health isn't great so a lot of time in bed etc. So I do get excited to dress up but I'll definitely need to do a hellbunny purge. I've lost count, maybe 20 dresses?

Last night I've bought 4 jumpsuits on next. I'm pretty sure at least 3 will be either too sorry making me look like a clown , or up my fandango. I only like full length. Feel silly otherwise.

Oh, I also bought a pair of combats. 😍😍😍.
I'll add pics in a minute.

Hellbunny vinted dress, m and s heatgen sparkly top, black leggings and vinted Guess boots. I would wear a leather jacket over this and dark glasses at all times 😂

It's lovely seeing more pictures of outfits. It feels very... Vulnerable to post photos online, so I love seeing Every single one.

I've added a back pic of a black linen next dress. I seem to have deleted all the front pics 😂. It's years old, pockets, cool, midi, comfy. Nice and loose.

I LOVE your style, and you have a bloody gorgeous figure too! You look a similar size to me I think, and if you look so amazing, perhaps I look better than I think I do too. I wonder if other people have had similar thoughts, if they've seen a photo of someone who looks similar to themselves, looking fab, and realising that perhaps they actually look that great too.

Also, you've inspired me to wear a belt!!

Dollyparot200 · 20/06/2024 18:07

@TruthThatsHardAsSteel Please can you show the combats you bought I would love a pair. Previously to chicken to try. Sorry if I missed the pic

Of course, I thought I had talked too much so stopped myself 😵‍💫

Can't get the link to work, search next for "adjustable waist cargo".

They came in the size 18L, the perfect length (I'm 5-7/8) and fitted me "perfectly", they were too neat for my liking around the waist so I'm waiting on the 20L. I really embrace my 90s roots. Combats, trainers and a t shirt/hoody. Debated the colour but the grey will match my two favourite pairs of trainers.

The reviews said the sizing was big so I was a bit unsure tbh. But In the spirit of going with what feels and looks best, I'm hoping the 20 will be perfect. So many things are tapered legs and I'm not a fan of that style on me so these are just great.

Awwww 🥹🥹🥹 that's so kind. Thank you. I bet you look great. My weight has never been in my control. I've dieted and dieted and I'm just not built to be a teeny tiny. So when we got married, I bought myself a leather jacket (which I wore on our wedding day), as a nod to self acceptance. How many times do we all think - I'll buy/do that when I'm a size X. It's a shame, waiting on life.

The belt creates a good illusion. Mostly I wear on the empire line but sometimes the natural waist. You should put a pic up some day, I'd love to see 😻. Do you have a similar style?

The leopard jumpsuit is BEAUTIFUL at size 18 (max size). The green one enclosed (next khaki green utility jumpsuit) was a really lovely material, length was great, pockets and amazing wide leg swishy trousers but the high neck just a no no with double GGs. It goes up to size 26. The 18 was very close fitting for my liking.

Thank you for the kind words, you've made my day.

@HebburnPokemon - I was so sad to read your reply. When going on holiday, I try all my outfits on in advance. I show them all to my (poor) husband - I know he will be honest. Having really good outfits and make up is all I know how to do to feel good. That and listening to the eye of the tiger.

Love the shorts & tshirt.

Someone linked a really simple black jumpsuit a few pages ago, thank you!

@ChishiyaBat jealous of Green day. I'm going to see take that on Saturday (taking my mum) 😁 😍.

So, linked to the discussion about realising people a similar shape to ourselves look fab. Today the woman behind me in the supermarket queue was rocking a black midi dress. I asked her where it was from (told her she looked great!) and it was last year at Next. Think I’ve found it on Vinted in my size so it’s now winging its way to me.

My first dip into Vinted also inspired by this thread!
