Fat girl summer - let's slay 💅

So, for those of us who are chunky yet funky, what's the plan ladies?

Shall we give no fucks and wear nice comfy summery clothes or do we worry about keeping every inch of us covered head to toe in black until we sweat so hard we melt? What's the plan?

Currently a size 20/22 myself, unlikely to get down to a magical size 14 by July so I'm looking at the nice comfy looking linen pants, few maxi dresses, shorts because I'm a wee chubby pale rebel and to really go wild a jumpsuit or two.

Simply be has some lovely things at the moment including shoes, asos curve is looking alright and vinted is my best pal.

I'm 35 for a few more months and don't want to have another summer in my 30s hating my body, so this year I'm going to embrace it. Anyone with me?

Another vinted hellbunny dress in xxl. Feel like this might be an older dress but it was bargainous all the same.

Given the top part is elasticated and the shorts part is quite loose fitting there is quite a lot of ease so sizing isn't really key.

I usually do a pick up at a Next store, try on there and then and return immediately if no good so sometimes order multiple sizes.

@Chewbecca I just wanted to say a HUGE thank you! I ordered 2 x playsuits from Next - one is amazing and I'm keeping it but the other didn't look great, so I WENT TO THE TILL AND RETURNED IT STRAIGHT AWAY!!! Grin

I've literally never thought of doing this before - I am a changed woman and will save a ton of money doing this now!!

Am v happy with my playsuit - it's one of the ruched top ones and I think will be really good on the beach putting it on over my swimming costume, or pottering around at home on really hot days - if they ever come....! 🙄

Chewbecca · 10/06/2024 15:39

Oh, that's great news, I am so pleased for you! Got my fingers crossed for playsuit weather coming our way.

Today's mooching about the house outfit. 'Cropped' trousers from h and m, which are actually ankle length on my shirt length. And an old leopard print t-shirt. I never thought about these colour combos, but I like the peachy and rust tones here.

That is a fab outfit, the colours go really well together and you look great!

Mermaidsarereal · 10/06/2024 16:07

I'm here for it! I'm a 16-18 at the moment (more of an 18!) I'm loving Temu and Shein's curve ranges I spend a fortune on them! Yours Clothing is also amazing

Hecatoncheires · 10/06/2024 17:12

Excitement! I woke a fully-sequinned dress to see Taylor Swift the other day and felt lovely in it. And, and, and..... I am currently wearing a pink/black/white floral maxi dress to go and see Girls Aloud tonight. It's wafty and I am focussing on the waft rather than looking like the side of a barn when I check the rear view. And it has pockets! So what's not to like. I'm hoping the young audience won't want to see a middle-aged mum cry so nobody will laugh at me. 😁

TragicMuse · 10/06/2024 18:45

I know flares/bootcut are back in, but I've just rediscovered skinnies and jeggings! I got some from Live Unlimited earlier this year and I LOVE THEM. Since then I've bought second hand ones from Vinted.

I really like Live Unlimited!

I am a 22-24, normal height but long waisted which is why tops have always been too short and trousers too high!

ChristmasLightsLover · 10/06/2024 21:27

Today I wore two necklaces and was proud of myself. AND I relaxed my trainers in a non middle aged mum fashion. AND I wore eyeliner.

I think I may have peaked for the month ;))

ChristmasLightsLover · 10/06/2024 21:28

*Re laced. Not relaxed my trainers.

Honestly. Blush

Cluelessaf · 11/06/2024 06:44

I was about to Google this to see what I had to do to relax them! Though mind you I now need to find out what a modern way to re lace them!

Thank you 😻 I love your dress with the skeleton on the front! Was trying to peep your hair!

Love the summery dresses and pics people are sharing. I'm going to H and M today, anything worth looking at in size 18?

I also love seeing everyone's pics, it's lovely seeing all the nice outfits❤️.
It's a nice dress, but it makes me look shapeless😂.
My hair is down past my arse, green and purple dreads, they are 11 this year, here it is just for you.

I love my belts, but it wouldn't work on that dress.
Thank you❤️I do love my hair, it's so low maintenence too. Haha yes i'm not very mumsnetty really😂.

BeretRaspberry · 11/06/2024 21:23

Well, I ordered some Cyberjammies in a 22 and they were so tight so they’ll be going back. I don’t even know if the next size up will fit.

I pretty much live in comfy clothes and get excited at new pjs so any other recommendations will be appreciated.

ChishiyaBat · 11/06/2024 21:40

@BeretRaspberry I struggle with finding comfortable pjs too, I live in my pjs when i'm not in work so I like loads of pairs. Asda ones used to be good, but the quality is shocking now and they never have bigger sizes. Teaco never have bigger than a 16 when I go in there and there are no sainsburys near me to look at, I hate buying pjs online, I need to feel them and scope them out😂.
I'm currently wearing batman mens xxl from b&m, but they are on the small side too. So i'm no help, but i'm interested in the answer to your question.

Seaside3 · 11/06/2024 23:09

@GoingDownDown thanks so much. I'd never have thought to put the colours together before, but I was. Hankering all the vibes here, along with trinny, who.loves colour.

I'm already lining up my next basket of clothes, this time for my summer holiday.

Hope everyone is keeping well.

Lwrenn · 11/06/2024 23:26

Is she the lass with her own range with a clothing brand? She's blonde and very pretty. I love her style! I'm not very big on influencers because I'm old and a dinosaur but i will definitely check her out, I've loved the outfits that have been shared on here. And the make up looks as well have really cheered me up, I'm even considering buying a eyeshadow palette 🥰

Lovethistimeofyear · 12/06/2024 17:47

Yes Jess has a range with In The Style - I haven’t ever bought from
her range but she’s nice to follow.

Laura Adlington is my fave.

Fabfatand40plus also great and Lux_Island.

All quite different in their styles.

Solongtoshort · 12/06/2024 18:06

@Lwrenn to be honest l didn’t know she was with a brand, l just watch the reels l don’t read the comments and it makes me think l could wear that.

@Lovethistimeofyear ooh l will have a look at those others.

l’m not a cat person so if there reels coming through about clothes or cleaning a dirty rug (god knows why l find them so interesting) then lm all over it oh and l have also find someone who buys dirty trainers and then cleans them and sells them again, he makes a mint, again l don’t know why l watch them 🤷🏻‍♀️

Evenstar · 12/06/2024 18:09

Joining late, but have been loving this thread and thank you to the PP who mentioned the Sainsbury’s denim jacket, I bought that and a couple of brightly coloured T shirts. The denim jacket had it’s inaugural outing today to a nice restaurant we had gift vouchers for
