Fat girl summer - let's slay 💅

So, for those of us who are chunky yet funky, what's the plan ladies?

Shall we give no fucks and wear nice comfy summery clothes or do we worry about keeping every inch of us covered head to toe in black until we sweat so hard we melt? What's the plan?

Currently a size 20/22 myself, unlikely to get down to a magical size 14 by July so I'm looking at the nice comfy looking linen pants, few maxi dresses, shorts because I'm a wee chubby pale rebel and to really go wild a jumpsuit or two.

Simply be has some lovely things at the moment including shoes, asos curve is looking alright and vinted is my best pal.

I'm 35 for a few more months and don't want to have another summer in my 30s hating my body, so this year I'm going to embrace it. Anyone with me?

That was me I think. I just use cheapy max factor cc cream, a cream blush and cream highlighter. I have great skin luckily, but I do look after it, again I only use cheapy stuff, but I use a serum, moisturiser and rose oil before make up that makes me glow.

I succumbed to buying the shirred-top harem trousers/onesie as linked by Big FatPussy on page one (think that's the poster's name! I can't find the post!) .

I got it in turquoise and it's lovely! I had to buy a strapless bra, as I'm too unconfident to wear it without one, knowing me I'd trip over and it'd get yanked down! Call me paranoid.

I'm a 14-16, 36D boobs. Fits lovely, very airy and light. I'm in Spain, cotton is a must for me, and lightness. I'll take a photo when I've tidied my bedroom :)

I've loved reading this thread, it's so supportive. Linked clothes are 99% lovely, too!

All power to our elbows.

Thank you @Lwrenn ❤️ I absolutely love my bright eye shadows it makes me feel much better, plus nude colours don't suit me.

If anyone has any tips to control the bloat please share. Although I doubt anthing will help me, I have endo and am currently under investigation for ocarian cysts and fibroids😭.

My endo is really bad, I’m waiting for a possible bowel resection but with our waiting lists I’ll probably go through menopause before then! (Not that it’ll necessarily help!)
For me things that help are cutting down meat and dairy, having more oily fish and veg, flaxseed and keeping hydrated. However of course when I feel crap I tend to eat crap 🤦‍♀️
Oh and ever since my doctor put me on Alverine my tummy issues are a lot better. It’s a bastard disease, I’m sorry you’ve got it too 💐

Thank you, I'm so sorry you suffer too💐 it is a horrible disease, my poor sil has just had a full hysterectomy, bowel and bladder surgery because of it, so i'm grateful i'm not that bad.
I don't eat meat, or much dairy, I love veg though and eat as much of it as I can everyday. What do you add flaxseed to and what are the benefits of it?

@Soccermumamir I saw a few in m and s today. Was pleasantly surprised! Lighter and darker, and shorter and regular denim jackets too.

I also saw other stuff I liked - have not been in m and s for ages!

Solongtoshort · 08/06/2024 21:18

I was in home & bargains on my lunch break and seen this for £3.99 or £4.99 lm not sure which price because of course you go in with a set list and come out spending more, l never look at the receipt, to scared to see how much l have spent. Anyway l thought l would give it ago and share with you all.

I’m fat but tall too. I usually wear a tankini but I’ve noticed a lot of woman ( all sizes ) wearing swimsuits this year.( in Portugal )

SpottyBumPony · 09/06/2024 08:57

I'm 5'7, size 22 with a pokey out top belly and a saggy apron belly. Also boobs that don't stay up without assistance, I feel best in a high waist bikini and a structured/wired bikini top.

Swimsuits just make me feel like a shapeless sausage. I've tried wired swimsuits but my chest is narrow so if I get my true bra size they don't fit properly on the bottoms. Any sort of sexy swimsuit just means my breasts will be making breaks for freedom every 10 minutes.

I don't usually wear baggy clothes but I'm off to the beach in this gorgeous soft cotton dress from George. Big pockets!!!!! Is this what they call "buffet style"?

It's very comfy to throw on top of my swimsuit.

I will waft along today.

Has anyone come across this website before?
https://fabulousclothing.com/collections/collection-01

Im really attracted by the idea of dresses that are tailored for big boobs!!
And some if their dresses are pretty cute too!

They are an off shoot of This is Unfolded. I have several pieces from TIU. They go up to 24. But I had trouble with the more fitted dress styles in the bust.

I do like the quality, fabric & price and business model.

I've ordered 2 dresses from Fabulous- the animal print and (my first ever) backless in black.

@RobinEllacotStrike I love this dress!! Did you size up or is it oversized?

Lovethistimeofyear · 09/06/2024 12:30

Sorry if this has been asked before - casual wear? I l usually have my make up and hair done, I just feel a mess without doing that. Would love some “throw on” casual clothes that still make me feel put together without being dressed up. Any suggestions?

I am 5’9, size 20, big feet 8/9, big boobs 40GG, big low belly.

editing to add - I am 43

RobinEllacotStrike · 09/06/2024 13:23

It's a 22 which is what I need in the bust.

It's really nice to wear. Very floaty.

OliveWah · 09/06/2024 15:05

I've only just found this thread from the Mumsnet Talk Round Up email - what a great idea!

I'm a size 24, only 5'3" and have a big belly, bum and thighs. I'm 44 and am going abroad with my DH and our 2 (very beautiful) teenage DDs this summer, and I was worrying what I was going to wear.

I went wild in the aisles on Shein a few weeks ago, and spent about £100 on around 7 dresses, none were more than £15, thinking that hopefully a couple wouldn't look too horrific, and I could return the rest.

I was thrilled when I tried them on - although a couple are made of crappy material, most weren't and I was surprised by how much I liked how I looked in them!

I've worn the long green one and had a lady in the queue for the changing room in H&M ask where I got it (as I was holding about a million identical different black bikinis for DD2 to try on!), which hasn't happened to me in years!

I wore the one with the green top and leaf patterned skirt and my Dentist said "You look lovely today, that dress looks wonderful on you!" and when my sister saw me in it she said "Oooh, someone's started their Hot Girl Summer!", which just about made my week!

I know Shein's not for everyone (my eldest DD is horrified that I shop there, she's charity shops all the way!), but there's not loads of choice on a budget at my size, and I've had good experiences, so thought others might too!

Today's mooching about the house outfit. 'Cropped' trousers from h and m, which are actually ankle length on my shirt length. And an old leopard print t-shirt. I never thought about these colour combos, but I like the peachy and rust tones here.

@RobinEllacotStrike @Seaside3
Love both your outfits!

Seaside3 · 09/06/2024 22:09

Thank you @Blueberrycreampie

Solongtoshort · 09/06/2024 23:17

@Seaside3 thats my kind of colours, looks lovely, my H&M doesn’t do anything beyond a 16 l don’t think maybe l should look online.

@RobinEllacotStrike love a dress with pockets, is that a recent purchase?

l have just sorted out my wardrobe and l’m going to charity shop anything l haven’t worn for ages and bin all my leggings.

My 12 year old said to me l am glad you have stopped wearing Jeans l think you look angry in them, You look like my mum when you wear a dress, l said l am your mum? He said oh you know what l mean!! then he told me his favourite dress l have which is pretty old.

@OliveWah l wouldn’t say lm against Sheen l just haven’t had great success with it apart from my recent dress and because l likes the shape of it l have bought another dress which l think is the same style. I can’t link things so will take a pic when l get it if l like it.

l feel so nice about my clothes lately l have actully been taken better care of my hair, nails and skin.

hope you are all well x

Seaside3 · 09/06/2024 23:34

@Solongtoshort I order everything online. I'm a size 18, these are a large. Usually I'd wear an xl if buttons or zips, these are elasticated though.

If you look at their website they tell you if an item.of.clothing.comes up small.and recommend if you might need to size up. Pretty useful really.

RobinEllacotStrike · 10/06/2024 00:04

@Solongtoshort it's this season but I think I bought it about 6 weeks ago. It's only getting warm enough to wear it now.
