Fat girl summer - let's slay 💅

So, for those of us who are chunky yet funky, what's the plan ladies?

Shall we give no fucks and wear nice comfy summery clothes or do we worry about keeping every inch of us covered head to toe in black until we sweat so hard we melt? What's the plan?

Currently a size 20/22 myself, unlikely to get down to a magical size 14 by July so I'm looking at the nice comfy looking linen pants, few maxi dresses, shorts because I'm a wee chubby pale rebel and to really go wild a jumpsuit or two.

Simply be has some lovely things at the moment including shoes, asos curve is looking alright and vinted is my best pal.

I'm 35 for a few more months and don't want to have another summer in my 30s hating my body, so this year I'm going to embrace it. Anyone with me?

Urgh, I need to catch up properly with all the chat.

Ive had a terrible day where I’ve just felt so low about how I look.

it really effects me and I need to stop letting it

It looks lovely❤️very swishy and comfortable, is it? I know what you mean about the price though, but if it's good quality and it'll last it's definitely worth it!

I got complimented on my makeup three times in work this week. Also got a massive ego boost today because 2 customers told me I look in my late 20s early 30s(i'm 44) so thank you ladies you made my day!

Edited

Thank you! And yes, it is very comfy. And as someone up thread said, theirs has lasted well so it should be good!

Yay to the makeup and age comments. I got told I didn’t look old enough to have a 28 year old son the other day and it was a boost. Normally I’m not bothered about looking my age, especially as I’ve had to let my hair go grey but it did give me a lift as I am often very knackered looking.

Aww, lovely. I (and probably all of us) know how you feel. It’s hard in the world we live in to feel good enough when we’re constantly bomarded with images of ‘perfection’.

I’m 100% sure you don’t look as bad as you think you look, in fact I bet you look bloody awesome. Do you feel up to posting a pic so we can tell you why you should believe you’re gorgeous?

I've just bought a fab pair of chino shorts from tesco of all places! Nice length and they have a bit of stretch.

Thanks, I will have a look.

I'm so sorry you've felt this today.

It's hard to feel positive about yourself all the time especially when we've all grown up with such huge pressure to look a certain way and negative responses to those who don't.

We've all felt it, I saw a quote maybe even just on mumsnet about how men profit from women's insecurity and the stubborn feminist in me is refusing to give them the satisfaction 😂

I hope that the lovely posters clothing and ideas and kind words not just to one another but words from strangers to the lasses on our thread help lift you and give you some ideas for lovely outfits to cheer you up 💐

Hugs to all those who had a crappy day yesterday.
I had an all staff meeting in the office yesterday (I'm a manager) and then had a meeting with my new bosses, who I've known for ages but who can be very pernickety.
I wore an Oliver Bonas dress that I actually bought for a wedding but decided against. I'm actively wearing the nice things in my wardrobe rather than leaving them there!
I got so many compliments! It felt really good.
Then it rained on the way home and my feet got soggy so I changed to jeans and a hoodie for the school runSmile

MooBaggage · 06/06/2024 08:26

Well I've put on my new Yours swooshy hippy maxi skirt on this morning because it was sunny when I got up - and now the clouds and rain have set in...!

Usually I'd be in jeans (WFH day so no-one can see the bottom half of me!) but think I'll keep the skirt on so I can swoosh in the cold 😀

Next have a whole section of playsuits - have a look.

I have this one which is sleeveless. I never thought I could wear a sleeveless playsuit but I love wearing this.

https://www.next.co.uk/g29548s1/676304#676304

I absolutely love that - but how does it stay up?! I've never had a completely sleeveless top and my boobs are ridiculously big - do you wear a strapless bra or just leave them be?! I'm not sure I'm brave enough to risk it! there are other lovely ones on there too though - am v tempted....

Chewbecca · 06/06/2024 08:55

It's got a shirred top and definitely stays up! I have mostly worn over swimwear whilst on hols but also at home pottering in the garden / around the house so no bra then for comfort. I have huge boobs but hate wearing bras so take it off pretty much the whole time I am indoors! This is better than wearing a normal T shirt with no bra because of the shirring. Can you tell how much I love it?!

Chewbecca · 06/06/2024 09:05

Oh, and it has big pockets!

Ive never considered a playsuit but you’re really tempting me to buy it 😂Something to potter in braless in the summer sounds perfect!

Sod it - am going to buy one! I've never bought anything from Next before - are their sizes pretty true to form? Wondering whether a 24 will be Ok or should I go up to a 26... Am also crap at returning clothes so if it doesn't fit, it'll stare at me for years 😀

Chewbecca · 06/06/2024 10:16

Given the top part is elasticated and the shorts part is quite loose fitting there is quite a lot of ease so sizing isn't really key.

I usually do a pick up at a Next store, try on there and then and return immediately if no good so sometimes order multiple sizes.

TiberiusFlam · 06/06/2024 10:34

Oh bloody hell I’ve just bought the sleeveless play suit too! (In the white as pink brings out the colour of my rosacea!)
It was almost certainly go back as shorts!
sleeveless! play suit! All in my “wouldn’t wear In a million years” bucket but we are going to a villa on holiday and might be nice to wear whilst pottering….

BrendaSmall · 06/06/2024 14:22

Shorts n T-shirts or dresses above the knees with short cycling shorts underneath, no fucks given, if someone doesn’t like what I’m wearing it’s their problem not mine!
shein/Temu & yours clothing
tankini instead of a swimsuit as it’s easier for using the toilet when wet from swimming 🤣🤣
size 26/28 with a massive over hanging belly!

SpottyBumPony · 06/06/2024 14:23

I am not slaying today 🤣 my cycling shorts don't seem to be full length so my hungry thighs keep muching them. And my DH's t shirt which I chucked has, I think, curry on it.

GoingDownDown · 06/06/2024 15:48

Facebook is clearly stalking me, look what I keep getting advertised 😂Looks super cute for those who are 16-22!

Fat girl summer - let's slay 💅
Hecatoncheires · 06/06/2024 16:18

@Lovethistimeofyear Its rubbish, isn’t it? I sympathise greatly. It’s so easy to be kind and nurturing to the people around us but not to ourselves. This is a bit granny/suck/eggs, but can you focus on something you like about yourself? Doesn’t have to be looks. When I feel maudlin at having let myself get so massive again (decades of yo-yo dieting here….) I try to remember that I’m a good person, people generally like me and I do my bit for the local community. And I’ve been told I give great hugs (clearly, due to my massive bobs that are like a welcoming pillow of softness!) so I’m sending you one over the airwaves.

My DD played me this song and it really resonated. My new favourite artist:

@BeretRaspberry That dress looks fabulous on you. Keeeeeeeeeeep it…….. 😍

Soccermumamir · 06/06/2024 16:52

Anyone else not able to wear 100% cotton or linen? My skin becomes irrated and my GP reckons I'm allergic to whatever they use in the process of making these 🫣

I can wear cotton as long it's below 50% love viscose and have a few pairs of pjs made with this. Polyester is fine although quite heavy in the summer months. Its a nightmare because so many clothes are 100% cotton and I can't wear them.

MsNeis · 06/06/2024 18:44

Wow, @Soccermumamir that sounds tough!
Viscose is lovely! In fact, I would say it feels better than cotton and linen, so treat yourself to it 😊😉

BeretRaspberry · 06/06/2024 19:44

@Hecatoncheires aw. Thank you! I’ve had a crap day so that really cheered me up. I think I will keep it. I’ve already accounted for the money.

@Soccermumamir that sounds annoying. You’d think it would be manmade fabrics that would cause you irritation. Hope you’re able to find suitable stuff.

That sounds like a pain! I’ve found a lot of viscose stuff is really good these days, nice and light for summer. I used to only wear cotton and linen but modern viscose is good for being cool and not sweaty.

Solongtoshort · 06/06/2024 20:00

@GoingDownDown oh that is lovely, l think l would like the khaki. I go on holiday in 70 days ( not that l am counting). I had a little sort out for my holiday and l think l need two new costumes/tankins, a few vests and some really nice cotton T-shirts. I like a new white one every year to wear with my jeans. Oh and some new sandals, l think maybe in a tan colour to go with all my new bits.

hope your all well x

Yeah I do love Viscose. Very light weight 🙂
