Fat girl summer - let's slay 💅

Lwrenn · 15/05/2024 18:56

So, for those of us who are chunky yet funky, what's the plan ladies?

Shall we give no fucks and wear nice comfy summery clothes or do we worry about keeping every inch of us covered head to toe in black until we sweat so hard we melt? What's the plan?

Currently a size 20/22 myself, unlikely to get down to a magical size 14 by July so I'm looking at the nice comfy looking linen pants, few maxi dresses, shorts because I'm a wee chubby pale rebel and to really go wild a jumpsuit or two.

Simply be has some lovely things at the moment including shoes, asos curve is looking alright and vinted is my best pal.

I'm 35 for a few more months and don't want to have another summer in my 30s hating my body, so this year I'm going to embrace it. Anyone with me?

@SpottyBumPony love that dress and the pop of colour x

bridgetreilly · 05/06/2024 10:57

My top tip for chub rub is solid deodorant. Keeps me dry and smelling nice as well as preventing the soreness.

Top tip for nice pyjamas - check out Sainsbury’s viscose pyjamas. I have two pairs in amazing prints. Cool and comfortable. I don’t know what they’ve got in stock at the moment.

I can’t find my shorts! Which really hasn’t been a problem yet this year but I need to be prepared for a hot summer, right? I’m a 20/22, and short. I like shorts a couple of inches above the knee, but I’m good at turning up hems if necessary. What are your recs for fat girls shorts this year?

Deathraystare · 05/06/2024 11:29

@SpottyBumPony

Love a bit of gingham except have a moment with yellow gingham as had to make a yellow gingham apron in sewing class. Mum had to finish it in the end!

I hope its OK to post this. I know some people don't lime shein but I saw this and thought of all of you saying about colour etc and I thought I'd go for it. I added the belt myself. Wore it to go out to dinner (to the harvester cos were posh like that 🤣) and a lady on the next table stopped me to say how beautiful my dress was and I looked really lovely in it. Made my day!! 4 days later and I'm still thinking about it. 🥰

It's a bit boobalicous so I've put a bright pink vest top underneath.

This is my bug bear with most v-neck or wrap dresses! Why do they reveal bra/boobs? Is it considered a good look?

Oooh I love that! Brilliant length and colours - you look great 😃

MooBaggage · 05/06/2024 12:54

I don't suppose anyone's seen something like an all in one thingy - short sleeves and shorts but all joined up (I have no idea what it would be called!). I used to have one ages ago and practically lived in it over the summer because it was so lovely to wear when it was hot. Have been looking but with no luck.

Kind of like a cotton onesie but with short sleeves and shorts!

TiberiusFlam · 05/06/2024 12:58

I think they’re called playsuits?

ooh yes! Thank you 😃 Am now googling away....

Loooove the gingham dress. I've one on my vinted I keep looking at and just can't decide on. I think it's midi length which makes me hesitant.

I've just bought a fab pair of chino shorts from tesco of all places! Nice length and they have a bit of stretch.

BeretRaspberry · 05/06/2024 17:29

My manners dress came and I like it a lot, but I’m not sure if I £150 like it. What do we think? I had to put a bra on because, although it was secure enough without, I didn’t like the shape of my boobs.

Excuse the mess..it’s a teenager’s room as she’s the only one with a full length mirror!😂

@BeretRaspberry I think it looks gorgeous on you look at the tiny waist 😍 loving the wrap dress as well. I've got a similar one from simply be buts its a mini version. Everyone looks great on this thread

It looks lovely❤️very swishy and comfortable, is it? I know what you mean about the price though, but if it's good quality and it'll last it's definitely worth it!

I got complimented on my makeup three times in work this week. Also got a massive ego boost today because 2 customers told me I look in my late 20s early 30s(i'm 44) so thank you ladies you made my day!

Chewbecca · 05/06/2024 18:29

I think the dress looks great on you. Have you tried rearranging your boobs with your hands within the dress? If you know what I mean!

I'll be v happy if I look your shape in mine!

I know what you mean about the cost, I would usually only spend £150 on a 'posh' dress rather than a 'beach' dress but decided this was worth it. Partly because I really want to buy fewer clothes but only ones I feel great in and partly because I have a big group beach holiday with many younger, glamorous women so really need to up my wardrobe game to avoid feeling uncomfortable!

It looks really good quality, do you feel like it's worth the money wearing it? It is a lovely shape! I like the skirts flow, I really do think it's very classy 👌🏻

I understand that it's big money though if you're not loving it in the way you hoped, but it is really beautiful!

I really do like it. It’s quite thick material and I’m worried about being too warm in it!😂😂 (Thanks peri). I think I’ll try it again tomorrow and see how I feel then.
