Fat girl summer - let's slay 💅

So, for those of us who are chunky yet funky, what's the plan ladies?

Shall we give no fucks and wear nice comfy summery clothes or do we worry about keeping every inch of us covered head to toe in black until we sweat so hard we melt? What's the plan?

Currently a size 20/22 myself, unlikely to get down to a magical size 14 by July so I'm looking at the nice comfy looking linen pants, few maxi dresses, shorts because I'm a wee chubby pale rebel and to really go wild a jumpsuit or two.

Simply be has some lovely things at the moment including shoes, asos curve is looking alright and vinted is my best pal.

I'm 35 for a few more months and don't want to have another summer in my 30s hating my body, so this year I'm going to embrace it. Anyone with me?

Someone once told me about liquid talc (Little Angels, Asda) which you apply before going out. I think it worked well but was a while ago. Worth trying though as it's cheap to buy!

Lwrenn · 02/06/2024 11:49

@GorgeousLadyofWrestling welcome! Glad you've found us! Sorry you felt a bit shit over the chub rub comment luckily we've had none of that here and even if we do, we've enough of us to give useful answers. 💐

I'm a huge fan of the anti chafing shorts, snag tights seem to be the favorite and the sloggis that were mentioned.

I've tried the liquid talc years ago but my favourite tip is cornflower.
Lush do a powder for anti chafing and it's main ingredients is cornflower so I just use that now, seems to work for me.
I do have massive chunky thighs so the rub is real!

I definitely suggest the shorts though, they've got loads of colours and sizes and look quite cool.

Let us know how you get on x

My thighs rubbed even when I was a size 8. Ive got scars on my thighs from when I wore a dress around Venice a few years ago and chub rubbed so much I got huge sores, I was very slim at the time yet my thighs still touched. Its just my build, I'd have to be just skin and bone for that not to be an issue

ChishiyaBat · 02/06/2024 13:07

I'm stuck in work until tonight in the most unflattering uniform known to man , so i've gone with a bright sunset inspired eye makeup to make me feel bettter. Have a wonderful day all!

Does anyone else get really bad PMT bloating? I'm looking pregnant today, but trying to battle through it, and so I'm wearing a dress anyway! There really is such a difference between how my tummy looks at different times of the month. Such a pain, and just when I'm trying to be so good about keeping with the spirit of the thread!

Someone on my thread about best solution for thigh rub suggested I lose weight. Now I feel just a bit shit.

People are so rude it's unreal. 💖

Hi,
Please can I join? I've been a lurker since it began. Loving all the photos and morale support from everyone.

I wouldn't say I was very big. I'm a size 10/12 but I have body dismorphia. At my thinnest I still felt I looked fat and unproportioned. I need to start changing my mindset as I'm so tired of it.

I bought a strappy orange top today from F&F, tried it on and loved the colour. (I hate my arms so this was a big deal for me). I sat in the garden to eat my dinner and braved taking my cardigan off. I had a black strappy top on and it felt nice to actually feel the sun on my arms for once. I wouldn't of done that without this thread. So thank you all so much 😊🫶🫶

@GorgeousLadyofWrestling In the words of Melanie Martinez: Don’t feel sad when the fuckers drown.

Ignore the unhelpful and needlessly unkind comment. Stay here with us and get that chin back up. I need to know about thigh rub too so your question and the solutions are helping me. 😃

Just catching up with the thread - which is a really lovely way to spend a lazy Sunday teatime Smile

I'm a bit useless with links so apologies, but today I wore some v. cool wide leg trousers from Next. Blue with a big white flowery pattern on and I think they may well have been mentioned early on. They are so nice and comfy - and just right now it's turned a bit warmer. Next time I wear them I might be brave and put a photo up.

poorremus · 02/06/2024 17:18

@GorgeousLadyofWrestling I'm sorry you got that rubbish comment.

ChishiyaBat · 02/06/2024 18:38

Thank you @Dollyparot200 ❤️

@Somethingsnappy yes me, I suffer horrifically with bloat, I look about 7-8months pregnant and it's incredibly painful, I can't wear anything with a tight waist band or restricting across my stomach as it's too painful, there are lots of things in my wardrobe that I can only wear 1week a month as my cycle is very short, it's very annoying!

Welcome! Glad you're here with us! 💐
I'm sorry to read about your body dysmorphia, it must be really tough. You're in with a good bunch here and hopefully you'll get a confidence boost with us all!
I'm so glad you got some sun on your skin and felt good about it! What a wonderful achievement 💖

@ChishiyaBat I'm loving those summery shimmers. I'm very bland with make up but love watching tutorials, I'll have to actually have a go one day!

@Somethingsnappy very much so, is it only the same week in your cycle? I realised I was bloating massively and this was when I was only slight, and it turned out it was not just pmt but also ibs.
I'm also unable to wear anything tight on my tummy or it is so uncomfortable.

Thank you @Lwrenn ❤️ I absolutely love my bright eye shadows it makes me feel much better, plus nude colours don't suit me.

If anyone has any tips to control the bloat please share. Although I doubt anthing will help me, I have endo and am currently under investigation for ocarian cysts and fibroids😭.

Thank you so much 😊 I'm ready to tackle it head on. I can't keep letting it rule my life. I love colour, so will be adding colour to my wardrobe this summer, starting with my new orange top 😁🩷

Soccermumamir · 02/06/2024 20:19

Oh I have IBS too. I have to limit my wheat intake, which is difficult. Buscopan is good for short term. I swear by it lol 😆

delilabell · 02/06/2024 20:42

@JacketPotatoFoodOfTheGods I love that dress!

LakeSnake · 02/06/2024 20:56

As we are talking about clothes, can I ask about pyjamas?

I really want to find some nice ones. All the ones I have atm have shrunk in the wash and got shorter. Incl some M and S.

I like Cybernammies (https://cyberjammies.com/) but they are relatively expensive.

Any other ideas for pjs that look nice and don’t shrink?

BeretRaspberry · 02/06/2024 21:01

@GorgeousLadyofWrestling I like Snag chub rubs but they can get warm. Having said that, I wore them at the wedding I was at yesterday and was surprisingly cool with them.

My daughter uses this and she swears by it. She’s a pear shape - teeny waist, big boobs, curvalicious bum and thighs that have always rubbed!

Isn't it just so annoying? All these lovely clothes in the wardrobe, and we have to time it just right for a limited time in our cycles to get the chance to wear them comfortably! I am wearing a pretty dress today... I loved it this time last week, but I feel it looks terrible today! But I'm trying to battle through it.

It does seem to be mostly PMT, unless I've eaten too much bread or something. But it's about a week before my period, so along with other symptoms of PMT, it seems to last so long. And I've been so good since this thread started, chucking out all the big, unflattering clothes in my wardrobe.... And this week I need them back! But still kind of glad that I can't I suppose...

I got some bamboo bottoms (they do tops too) from Taking Shape. Their normal prices are quite spendy but they often have a 40% off sale on everything. These are one of the pairs I got last year.

I get a lot of bloating with IBS but it’s definitely worse with PMT. I have quite a big B belly anyway and the top part is often rock hard! This means I have to live in elasticated waists.

LakeSnake · 02/06/2024 21:13

@BeretRaspberry they are nice!!
Will have a look, they might some sale going on atm (or soon)
