Fat girl summer - let's slay 💅

Lwrenn · 15/05/2024 18:56

So, for those of us who are chunky yet funky, what's the plan ladies?

Shall we give no fucks and wear nice comfy summery clothes or do we worry about keeping every inch of us covered head to toe in black until we sweat so hard we melt? What's the plan?

Currently a size 20/22 myself, unlikely to get down to a magical size 14 by July so I'm looking at the nice comfy looking linen pants, few maxi dresses, shorts because I'm a wee chubby pale rebel and to really go wild a jumpsuit or two.

Simply be has some lovely things at the moment including shoes, asos curve is looking alright and vinted is my best pal.

I'm 35 for a few more months and don't want to have another summer in my 30s hating my body, so this year I'm going to embrace it. Anyone with me?

I've read this thread since it began and I'm overwhelmed at the support and encouragement offered.

I'm 45, 5'3 and between 18-20. I'm the biggest I've ever been but the last two years have been horrific for me and I self medicated with food. I hate how I look; belly, bingo wings, double chin, the lot. I've taken some ownership and I'm in therapy and making sensible food choices.

Three days ago I looked in the mirror, I'm pretty, I have dark blue eyes that always get compliments and my boobs, despite being big are in good shape🙂. On the back of that, I made a hair appointment and gave the stylist free reign with colour and style. What a difference🙂 It's quite youthful and very blond.

I also ordered 3 tankinis, one is a halter neck and is quite flattering. I was shy in showing my husband but he loved it. We're going on holiday in September and I'm determined not to feel self conscious about my body because life is short and death is long.

The clothes here are beautiful and I wish all you lovely ladies happy wearing 🥰

Oh reading this gave me goosebumps! I'm so genuinely happy that you're getting into a better place. And being chunkier than you are happy with doesn't take away from how pretty you are. It never has nor will it, we've just been so indoctrinated by magazines/diet culture/money grabbing ceos to hate ourselves so we spend more.
Sure being healthy is important but accepting and loving ourselves equally as important, we can't be miserable over our bodies or that cycle of over eating will worsen anyway. We punish ourselves for being fat and not once has self hatred been a useful tool to become healthier, mind health matters too.

I'm glad you've joined our wee tribe! ❤

@LakeSnake no, it's doubled up i think, so actually quite thick. Not the best pic, but here you go. Ignore the obligatory water spill on my boob. And whilst I nearly chickened out of wearing it, I remembered, they're just arms. And aren't I lucky to have two arms that do what they're supposed to do.

@Seaside3 you have a lovely shape 😍 I love the top, I'm probably the same colour as that top, maybe more pale 🙈 but I love it, do they have other colours?

I'm currently weaning my baby and I think I should just wear orange for the foreseeable! Carrot puree everywhere! 😅

Aww thank you@Lwrenn you're a very warm, empathetic person. I wish you much joy in life

Seaside3 · 01/06/2024 23:42

Thanks @ChishiyaBat !
And you @Lwrenn . It does come in different colours. Currently showing out of stick in larger sizes in most colors, but I'm loving this blue version. https://www2.hm.com/en_gb/productpage.1179983007.html

Got to wear the dress tonight, loved it. I'm a size 18, got it in large and its a good fit. Felt great with some pumps and footless tights with the legs pulled up underneath.

Thanks again for the thread x

Where did you buy the tankinis from? I'm looking out for swimwear for my August holidays. I have no idea what might be flattering for my apple shape.

Seaside3 · 02/06/2024 07:23

Thank you ladies, isn't it nice to feel good in what we wear?
Hope everyone has a lovely day x

Thank you for this thread, hen, suspect you're a fellow scot!

I need shorts. I like the look of the manners ones but cannot justify the price.

Size 20, apple shape.

Also, how to make my face look less fat and chinny?

I also loved the look of the manners shorts but couldn’t justify the price. I’ve just bought some from Lands end, standard navy chino type, with some elastic at the back of the waist, they’re good but haven’t blown me away(lands end always has codes so is cheaper than it first appears!). Shorts are my nemesis, I like the theory but not the reality.

Lwrenn · 02/06/2024 08:58

@motheronthedancefloor I am nay scot! 😂 I'm actually a scouser but for a long time a good friend of my mums looked after me during my formative years, practically raised me she did and she was Scottish and I adored her so much I copied how she spoke from very early on. Even now if I get road rage or something I'm like "ye wee prick!" I can't help it 😂
I bloody adore Scottish people, if I get a Scottish call handler we'll be chatting for ages! 😂

Lots of people have said some extremely lovely things on this thread to me and to one another and its truly been my favourite online experience, thank you all so much x

Stunning dress, it's on my list! Also thank you so much for the blouse link, I got these shoes for £1 from vinted and I think they'd look great with the blouse in blue and some white linens?

@motheronthedancefloor I've no idea how to make faces look less fat and chinny. If you find out, let us know.

I am going to go with big sunglasses, red lip and being happy. Because who can resist a glowing person, fat or not? X

weebarra · 02/06/2024 10:02

I went to my friend's 50th birthday party yesterday. Lots of my friends are very glam, but I felt good and got compliments on my dress which was a very cheap one from shein. Very much not somewhere I'd shop but I was getting stocking fillers for the DCs at Xmas and came across it. No idea what I was doing with my hands though!

Some make-up that draws attention to your best feature, so a gorgeous lipstick, or dramatic or lovely eye make-up!

But in reality, the knowledge that your face only looks fat and chinny to you. Other people won't be thinking that. They'll only be focused on their own perceived flaws x

I just posted without seeing this thread - best approach to mitigate thigh rub whilst on holiday. I would normally wear shorts under dresses but they make me so hot. Can’t imagine it’ll be pleasant on holiday! Has anyone tried either a moisturiser type solution or those shorts made from bamboo (or something) that are meant to be cooler?

GorgeousLadyofWrestling · 02/06/2024 10:39

Someone on my thread about best solution for thigh rub suggested I lose weight. Now I feel just a bit shit.

yellowsun · 02/06/2024 10:44

I wear the Sloggi ‘long briefs’ under skirts and dresses. They are cotton and I find them to be comfortable and cool. I tired the Snag ones but I massively overheat in them. You can get the Sloggi ones on Amazon for about £10.

Fuck ‘em. Any decent person knows that’s an unhelpful and judgemental suggestion.

I find it much cooler to wear some kind of light shorts, because skin on skin makes me hotter. Snag chub rub shorts (popsy also do them) or sloggi long thin cotton shorts.

Have tried talc, some anti chafing cream and deodorant but my top tip is to avoid them getting sore in the first place. I now before betting dressed give them a quick blast with the hairdryer on cool so they are cool and dry and wear Snag chub rub shorts or Sloggi similar idea.

Some thin people get rubbing too though, so don't feel bad! Fuck whoever made you feel shit!

Don't worry... That poster is probably a bit lacking in the brains department. I've always had thigh rub, back in the days of being size 8, and also now I'm size 16.
