Fat girl summer - let's slay 💅

1000 replies

Lwrenn · 15/05/2024 18:56

So, for those of us who are chunky yet funky, what's the plan ladies?

Shall we give no fucks and wear nice comfy summery clothes or do we worry about keeping every inch of us covered head to toe in black until we sweat so hard we melt? What's the plan?

Currently a size 20/22 myself, unlikely to get down to a magical size 14 by July so I'm looking at the nice comfy looking linen pants, few maxi dresses, shorts because I'm a wee chubby pale rebel and to really go wild a jumpsuit or two.

Simply be has some lovely things at the moment including shoes, asos curve is looking alright and vinted is my best pal.

I'm 35 for a few more months and don't want to have another summer in my 30s hating my body, so this year I'm going to embrace it. Anyone with me?

@Blueberrycreampie Eeek! I searched for Studio/Phase 8 and there's a gorgeous sequinned dress for £25 that would be perfect for going to see Taylor Swift with my DD next week. It's very 'Midnights' era. Decisions, decisions......

@Lwrenn Just saying hi again. Look how many of us are loving this thread! Feels like being with good friends. There's so much negativity and sadness and dark stuff on tinternet so this is a truly delightful change.

I think a sequinned dress would be perfect for the concert!

Hey guys.

I received a reply from the OP the other day with some helpful advice, same from another member but the thread has moved on quite a bit so I won't quote. I struggle with jumpsuits I tend to find the pull in at all the wrong places, I might give a go ordering from tall at a bigger size.

I will try to order a size up maybe, as I think any fabric that grips onto rolls is just gonna make me look bigger.

There have been some helpful and nice comments on here the last few days, unfortunately I'm not in a position to go on a spending spree (lots of house projects going on atm) but can buy a little here and there.

I have a party in 2 weeks, I am torn between buying a new outfit, or just wearing something I have stuffed in the back of the wardrobe a few years as I have dismissed it as unflattering? (basically, it dares to show skin!)

oh wow - the 2nd dress is STUNNING!! Definitely go for that 😃 The colours are fabulous and you'll look amazing.

I bought a couple of maxi dresses recently - am going to wear them on holiday/very hot days - my Mum (who I live with) was a bit 😮but to be honest, that just encourages me...! 😄

Both those dresses are lovely, especially the second one! But it might be worth checking what you have in your wardrobe?

wateringcanface · 28/05/2024 10:32

Thanks @GoneWithTheSunshine definitely leaning with second, glad you are feeling encouraged to wear your new dresses. Obviously, I don't know your mum, but sometimes I think a little bit of a reaction like that is often just because people aren't used to seeing you wear that clothing and it takes some processing, not that they think its unsuitable. I usually wear dark colours so I think when I wear something bright and colourful it looks a bit weird to others, like when you see someone who wears glasses without them😂

and @MooBaggage thank you, I have emptied my summer clothes out into a heap on the floor with the intention of going through them (has been 10 days now) so I need to get round to that

ChishiyaBat · 28/05/2024 10:46

@wateringcanface I love that blue coloured halterneck dress, the colours are so vibrant! The pink one is a nice shape too.

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 28/05/2024 11:22

They are both lovely dresses @wateringcanface but agree with others that the second is particularly stunning . Maybe with a cropped cardi or jacket in case it's a bit chilly .

Thank you, I'll have a proper look before ordering. I think I'd prefer front pockets! The material seems pretty perfect though.

I ordered the ones @ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea is talking about, they’re really good too. Very similar fabric. Just a slightly different cut and the combat ones suited me more.

Somethingsnappy · 28/05/2024 18:08

My Manners Asri dress arrived! I LOVE it! I was worried about it clinging to my stomach, but after seeing the lovely ladies modelling them on the website, and showing off their curvy tummies, I feel better about mine, and it somehow manages to flatter it. I ordered the M, and it's perfect... I could grow or shrink and it would still work. I have the new leopard print one, and it mentions on the website it comes up bigger than the other Asri dresses.

RedAutumn · 28/05/2024 19:27

Just wanted to say that I've really enjoyed this thread. It's fun and positive, and it's given me motivation to clear out my wardrobe, and order a few new things. I'm a size 16, and normally feel quite self conscious in the summer, but now I'm actually looking forward to stepping out of my comfort zone a little bit.

Amazing! Any chance of a headless photo? Does it give your boobs good support?

I love this thread! I’ve got some dresses from H&M coming tomorrow, that were mentioned on here.

Apolloneuro · 28/05/2024 20:22

I’ve started following a lady on Instagram who does ‘sparkle Friday.’ She’s had a rubbish year and every Friday she puts something sparkly on, even just a pair of earrings. I might start doing it myself.

I'm out this evening, but I'll attempt a headless photo tomorrow!

I haven't tried it without a bra yet... I was wearing my bra when it arrived earlier, and just did a super fast try-on. The fabric is is thick and stretchy and feels amazing quality, so I'm guessing I'll feel fine without a bra. I don't have particularly big boobs though. But going bra-less is their trademark thing, and all the reviews seem to agree, so it sounds quite positive.

This is one of the maxi dresses I bought that my Mum was 😮about - now granted I don't look like the model.... 😃but it swooshes beautifully and will be perfect on hot beach days - can't wait to wear it..! It's a Monsoon dress and I bought it from ebay.

That dress is a stunner! Great buy 🔥

Lwrenn · 29/05/2024 08:55

@RedAutumn I'm so glad! Absolutely made up to read this!

@MooBaggage that is absolutely beautiful, that model is stunning yes, but that dress will look gorgeous on you also!

@HellonHeels not related to the thread at all but there is a song called hell on heels that is such a fun and sexy tune, is that where your name is from?

I'm sure your mum will fall in love with it once she sees it on

Omg……l can’t believe l am only just finding this thread after a billion shopping trips to heighten my Sumer wardrobe.

lm 48 and a size 20-22

Honestly some store need to look at the sizing ratios. I have tried on a million dresses to tight on the arms but way to loose on the boob front and some lacking shape. Just because l am bigger doesn’t mean l need to wear a sack, sadly l am talking about Yours.

My budget isn’t great so tend to stick to Next, New look type shops. I have had a few hits in Sainsbury’s. Bon marche just opened a new shop in the town my mum lives in and we went in together l am really shocked at how nice some of the stuff is and that l am now in the target age range, the online is fantastic. I love dresses but as l have a young children was stuck in a bit of a leggings/jumper/ hoodie rut but now l need to step outside of that for me.

l used to work in clothing many moons ago and loved fashion so l have been looking for inspiration on Instagram there a girl called what l wore at size 24 and she has some nice outfits.l do think a lot of it is about staying rather than wearing the clothes.

One of my friends rave about shein, l am a bit unsure as a lot of her clothes from there seem see through but l ordered a few things and yes some things were just a waste of money but yesterday l had on this dress(in the photo below) and got three complementary comments, l am a girls girl so if l see someone looking nice l always say and yesterday l got paid back to me, needless to say it’s now going to be my favourite dress, l had already decided against it as well it was at the bottom of my wardrobe still in the bag, we were getting ready and my daughter said what’s this and l said l will wear it otherwise it will go to waste.

Glad l have found you all, off to look for some shorts/cream for under my dresses. I wouldn’t mind some bra recommendations.

The only bras I ever wear now are Molke: https://molke.co.uk/?gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjwpNuyBhCuARIsANJqL9PmOhlvJGG9VR-ZmujCCbPLatY8fYJHLxGr-wdO_XipuODsIJ_JGFoaArV3EALw_wcB

I am very, very big of boobage and these give me amazing lift and support - wouldn't go back to any other type and I used to be a Bravissimo fan for years and years, but got so fed up of underwired stuff giving me red marks and sore bits. Now I wear the Molke originals most days and have got a couple of plainer 'flexi-size' Molkes in case I want something with a more normal strap for under posh clothes 🙂 I even wear a Molke bralette to sleep in every night because I get nerve pain in my left breast if I don't have some kind of support.

That dress looks lovely BTW - definitely one to keep!

I love that dress! Is it in shein curve? I think the trick with shein is find a style that works and stick with it. A lot of things are the same style just different patterns.

I ordered a dress a couple of years ago. It was £80 and the material was thin, it lacked structure and wasn't worth the money. Sent it back.

Bought a lovely dress years ago through Evans online but there was a fault in it and I had to return it.

Ah is it just Evans then?
