Fat girl summer - let's slay 💅

1000 replies

Lwrenn · 15/05/2024 18:56

So, for those of us who are chunky yet funky, what's the plan ladies?

Shall we give no fucks and wear nice comfy summery clothes or do we worry about keeping every inch of us covered head to toe in black until we sweat so hard we melt? What's the plan?

Currently a size 20/22 myself, unlikely to get down to a magical size 14 by July so I'm looking at the nice comfy looking linen pants, few maxi dresses, shorts because I'm a wee chubby pale rebel and to really go wild a jumpsuit or two.

Simply be has some lovely things at the moment including shoes, asos curve is looking alright and vinted is my best pal.

I'm 35 for a few more months and don't want to have another summer in my 30s hating my body, so this year I'm going to embrace it. Anyone with me?

I love them all! Would probably go with the 3rd one!

I need help too...! Am going with DP to the Goodwood revival in September and need to wear 50's clothes - never done this before... What are Hell Bunny like for sizing as I've been looking at their dresses?

Any other 50's type places I could try? I'm thinking a dress, or skirt with one of those sticky out underskirts?!

I've never used Vinted so will start taking a look....!

Thank you, i've discounted 3 though it's more wintery and it could be too warm. I'm probably going to go with 2, but who lnows I might completely change my mind by next month😂.

Hell bunny sizes are good, pretty true to size. XL is a only a 14 though, but they go up to 5xl. There are loads of plus sized 50s style dresses and petticoats in every colour on amazon too.

I’ve bought these recently and was surprised at how flattering they were. I think it’s the taper which gives them more structure than jersey normally has. They’re light jersey, which may or may not be cool enough for you! I bought the khaki green which is a really nice colour, though I’m not sure I own any T-shirts which go with it…

Thank you, I really like the look of them! That's exactly the sort of thing I'm after, I don't like wearing leggings in class all day but it's too hot for sweatpants. I'll order the black ones after the next pay day!

Search hellbunny 7xl on vinted.

I'm a 16/18 and wear an xxl with room to shrink or grow. I have a bit of a hellbunny dress... Obsession. Especially skulls 😂 💀

@Blueberrycreampie @GoingDownDown Thank you, that makes sense. I'll give it a try and see what delights come to me. 😀

TruthThatsHardAsSteel · 27/05/2024 10:35

Oooo there are a few 9xl hellbunny dresses on vinted too, that's a size 30/32. Not sure why they're not on the size chart www.hellbunny.com/pages/size-guide?gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjw3tCyBhDBARIsAEY0XNkMQO0oiu3rwQzVgNaKml_UJWLolswcNC5zIn8DHun1ZI1A-O-_A0caApxtEALw_wcB

Check out Lady Vintage, a London based company. I have a couple of theirs, and I love them!

Blueberrycreampie · 27/05/2024 10:53

@Hecatoncheires Yes it takes some figuring out and seems daunting at first but worth it I feel. Do give it another go!

Me too, I had around 30 hell bunny dresses at one point. I buy 2nd hand and then sell them on when I get bored. I wear a L, XL or XXL depending on style. I find the shirts small though even a 4XL wouldn't fit my bingo wings properly😂. I didn't know they went up to a 7xl though!

Hecatoncheires · 27/05/2024 12:08

@Blueberrycreampie Eeek! I searched for Studio/Phase 8 and there's a gorgeous sequinned dress for £25 that would be perfect for going to see Taylor Swift with my DD next week. It's very 'Midnights' era. Decisions, decisions......

@Lwrenn Just saying hi again. Look how many of us are loving this thread! Feels like being with good friends. There's so much negativity and sadness and dark stuff on tinternet so this is a truly delightful change.

Don't wait too long to decide! I've done that before and then lost the item because somebody else has bought it. So rude!

You got tickets?! I tried to get some for myself and my eldest lad in Liverpool but I just wasn't able to secure them!
I love Taylor, I'm not a mega fan of her music to know all her albums etc but the ones ive heard I've enjoyed loads, but I'm mostly a fan of her as a person. She seems to genuinely care about people. I love that. I love her friendship with Selena gomez, what lovely lasses! They can join this thread!

I agree this is a lovely thread. I'm glad actually so many of us are enjoying it because online there can be quite a bit of harshness towards overweight people, I did expect a few people to come on and tell me to stop eating malteasers (absolutely never) or something so to make such a lovely group has been wonderful!

I absolutely adore clothes that are traditionally for festivals/gigs/feeling fabulous and if I ever get this elusive lottery win I'm taking us all to America to buy up some stuff from boot barn and modcloth and other places and we'll throw a chunky but still funky festival, just for us! 💅😂

This always happens to me!

Also a hell bunny fan here (for readers not familiar with hell bunny, it’s not all totally alternative, they do a great selection of styles). A red tartan Irvine is my favourite winter dress ever, and I have a Tahiti dress that doesn’t currently fit, I may need to buy another as it’s gorgeous.

Hecatoncheires · 27/05/2024 13:58

@Lwrenn Well, I had to stick them on the plastic as by the time I was taken off the waitlist there were only the mega-expensive ones available..... I wasn't a huge fan back then but my DD was/is. But now that I've been listening to TS's music I have a real appreciation for her lyrics and storytelling. Some of the songs are life lessons for my daughter, typically around knowing your own worth and not diminishing yourself for a relationship. Somewhat at odds with my view of myself because I'm chunky but perhaps I'll get there too one day.

Hecatoncheires · 27/05/2024 14:12

@SpottyBumPony I bought it! My first Vinted purchase.

What an amazing thread! Off to spend all the money I don’t have on every single link 😂

BeretRaspberry · 27/05/2024 14:49

Hey again everyone! This thread is still amazing. I’ve just ordered the Manners London Asri dress in XL and black. I signed up for notifications for when it came back into stock and got a notification this morning.

Also - I can’t remember who asked about fake tan but I’ve been using Bondi Sands Express tan. You put it on and then leave if for up to 2 hours (depending on how deep you wanted it), then rinse off and it leaves a lovely colour. It also has a guide colour so you can see where it’s going.

Apolloneuro · 27/05/2024 15:42

Found so many lovely new brands on this thread. Thank you so much!

ChristmasLightsLover · 27/05/2024 16:49

Does anyone here have recommendations for bikini bottoms please? I'd like control bottoms as I have stomach overhang from both c section and weight. I reckon a 20/22. I love my tankini and want to wear it. Just don't want my tummy to fall out!

I see lands end and shapermint on lots of adverts. Has anyone tried them please? Thank you in advance!

@MooBaggage try Dolly & Dotty and also Scarlett & Jo. Vivien of Holloway is pricey but worth a look.

I see someone else has suggested Lady V London, which is one I was also going to suggest.

Yeah I think I need to sell a few on for sure. I keep seeing new ones and it's hard to resist. I've never ventured outside their dresses!

Was looking at the cider trousers. Palazzo pants are the best although it's never easy to find full length pair with a non diggy in waist.

Great reading seeing everyone's choices and inspiration.

@GoneWithTheSunshine
Next also do joggers similar to the ones linked by @GoingDownDown which are normal joggers rather than combat . They are tapered leg with normal front pockets but are the same material . I wear them both with trainers and a hoodie, but also with sandals / loafers and a smarter jersey top for going out.

Thank you, I'll have a proper look before ordering. I think I'd prefer front pockets! The material seems pretty perfect though.
