Fat girl summer - let's slay 💅

Lwrenn · 15/05/2024 18:56

So, for those of us who are chunky yet funky, what's the plan ladies?

Shall we give no fucks and wear nice comfy summery clothes or do we worry about keeping every inch of us covered head to toe in black until we sweat so hard we melt? What's the plan?

Currently a size 20/22 myself, unlikely to get down to a magical size 14 by July so I'm looking at the nice comfy looking linen pants, few maxi dresses, shorts because I'm a wee chubby pale rebel and to really go wild a jumpsuit or two.

Simply be has some lovely things at the moment including shoes, asos curve is looking alright and vinted is my best pal.

I'm 35 for a few more months and don't want to have another summer in my 30s hating my body, so this year I'm going to embrace it. Anyone with me?

I love that dress, and it looks AMAZING on! You have a really nice shape.

I've bought a few things today. My poor dh, but he seems to very much be liking the fitted things, so perhaps not so poor after all. But op, you're both a fabulous influence, and also a bad one on our bank accounts!

I bought a 'run and fly' dungarees mini dress today. I like it because it hides my tummy, but shows off the bits I like more.

This is my favourite ever mum's net thread.

OP, your post about your son saying 'I love you daddy' had both me and dh laughing out loud!

Thank you! It’s taken me a long time to realise that actually non-stretchy stuff is often more flattering on me!

I love the run and fly pinafores, always been a bit paranoid that they’d be too short for me. Which one did you buy?

delilabell · 25/05/2024 19:30

For a previous poster who was asking about swimsuits.....simply be have a flash sale on some really nice looking ones

GoneWithTheSunshine · 25/05/2024 19:55

Hello everyone,

I hope you don't mind me joining a bit later? I think I'm around a size 24. I'm working hard on losing some weight but I am under no illusion that I will be skinny in the summer.

I love how supportive you all are of each other and you have linked to such lovely dresses and clothes!

They seem to have two different lengths... A shorter one, like a mini skirt, and a longer one that comes to below the knees. The skirts flare out a bit which looks really nice. I went for the shorter one in a highland cow print!

Fab thread! I’m 48, size 20 and off to Florida next month, so in serious need of ideas. I tend to stick to linen (mix) trousers and tops, with the occasional maxi dress (another vote for chub rub shorts- so good!). I have cankles the second the sun comes out, so prefer to hide my legs, but I’ve bought some vest tops for the first time in years- I want an even tan at least.
Bought this dress and I love how comfy and flattering it is
https://www.yoursclothing.co.uk/gypsy-bardot-maxi-drss-red-trpcl-p

Highly recommend waiting until you get to Florida to buy. So many Americans are bigger, and they tend to have a wide choice of summer clothes.

So I have 3 outfits to choose from. The 1st one is a red&black zipped and buckled pinafore with skulls and a silver kimono style cardigan. The 2nd is a hell bunny limited edition pandas in space print(has pockets), again with the silver kimono cardi, I would also wear this with a 50s style petticoat. 3rd is a bat print full sleeved dress I would also wear with a 50's style petticoat underneath and a corset belt. I am leaning towards 1 or 2, but my daughter says 3😂. So I don't know what do you all think?

I've been ruminating on all 3, I love them all. I love love love the bats but it's more wintery. I'm not able to pick between the other 2 yet 🙈🙈sorry!

You have such a cool style, I love that pin up aesthetic and the petticoat skirts 😍

Try them all on, see which one is the most comfortable and least sweaty!

And pull billie Joe for me - live my teenage dreams 🤣

Which one can you most easily lose the cardi to if it’s too hot?

I like 1 best!

ChishiyaBat · 26/05/2024 10:10

Thank you @Lwrenn ❤️I know what I like and I wear it. Agreed the bats are too wintery, so that one has now retired from the race🦇. I have tried them all on 1&2 are equally cool and not sweaty. I think I am leaning towards 2 just because there are pockets.

😂😂😂I loved Billie Joe as a teen too, I cried the day him and Adrienne got married I was so happy😂 I cried when I saw him in 2002😂, he is still handsome, but does nothing for me anymore. I will try and get some nice pics though. Until then have these that I took 2 years ago.

That is a good point, 2 because it has a halter neck. 1's straps are very prone to falling down. So i'll probably go with 2.

I really like these dresses
https://eu.wooland.com/products/audrey-maxi-dress-black-heather

Yes it’s wool but it’s surprisingly cool to wear, doesn’t get smelly and travels very well. I bought it last year before going away on hols. It was perfect despite the very high temperatures (around 40oC).

Bought another one this year, but short sleeve.

Roman is good for long flowing style tops.

They're good for flattering dresses too.

How is Roman’s sizing? I’ve got some dresses in a basket and not sure what size to go for. I usually but from Marisota and their clothes are generous (and rubbish quality!)

Fortunately I’ve realised there is a Roman store only 15 miles away, so I’m going to pop there tomorrow.

Hello again! Question for all you Vinted experts. How do you find good things? I find that there is so much choice that it’s overwhelming. I can’t narrow things down and end up shutting down the app in frustration. Any tips would be very gratefully received. 😃

FredsRoses · 26/05/2024 17:40

Wow! I can't believe how long this thread has kept me entertained for! Loving all of the sisterly support here ladies. I have been totally inspired to change my look completely, and have thoroughly enjoyed looking up all of the links and recommendations. I'm almost 65, disabled and unable to exercise or even walk more than a few yards, so over the years I've got bigger and bigger and am now a size 22. My doctor told me recently, to think about losing some weight and that the NHS will pay for me to attend Weight Watchers or Slimming World for 12 weeks, but after that you're on your own. He then admitted that diets don't work! So WTF is the point of his advice? I've now decided not to go any more mad with food than I normally do, in the hope of not getting any bigger, as I know, as we all do, that it's not good for my health, but what the hell, I'd rather eat what I want and be happy, albeit a bit bigger than I'd like, than spend the next few years, feeling miserable and hungry, on top of all the other health problems I have. After all, who wants to be skinny and miserable at 80?

Thank you all so much for your openness and inspiration.

I am by no means an expert but have bought a couple of things from Vinted. Start by searching on one specific brand eg M&S or Yours in your size. Prices can be very reasonable so worth a go. Some aren't displayed very well so may not be worth taking a risk. Check to see when hey were listed as if they've been there a while there may be a good reason. Remember you can always put it back on Vinted if you don't like it. You can save favourites to go back to if you're not sure.

It works well if you know what brand and size you’re looking for, it’s a bit useless for generally browsing unless you’re happy to scroll for hours! I favourite a lot of stuff and then the suggested ones work quite well for me. I wish they’d have an option to exclude certain brands rather than having to choose them.

Thanks for the nice welcome!

I love dresses the most. I've recently also treated myself to some new plain t-shirts from fat face. Nothing special but finally have some that don't ride up and feel annoying.

I do need to buy some floaty trousers or shorts actually if anyone has any recommendations. I'm a primary school teacher and have to teach PE once a week. On those days I wear PE kit all days so needs to be decent! It's getting too warm to wear my usual sweatpants.

I’ve bought these recently and was surprised at how flattering they were. I think it’s the taper which gives them more structure than jersey normally has. They’re light jersey, which may or may not be cool enough for you! I bought the khaki green which is a really nice colour, though I’m not sure I own any T-shirts which go with it…

I need help too...! Am going with DP to the Goodwood revival in September and need to wear 50's clothes - never done this before... What are Hell Bunny like for sizing as I've been looking at their dresses?

Any other 50's type places I could try? I'm thinking a dress, or skirt with one of those sticky out underskirts?!

I've never used Vinted so will start taking a look....!
